That's why all the lines are building their own ports... Coco Cay, etc. so they can maximize all the $ spent and they can put all their passengers on the island.
I imagine the cruise lines aiming for the ships themselves being the "destination" with sea day and cruise owned islands only itineraries. That way passengers spend all their money with the cruise line.

It is the right of a country to restrict the ever increasing flood of ships, with more being built, so the flood increases. More and more ports are complaining about the overwhelming amount of people. There will be a tipping point in more ports, just as we are seeing in multiple ports now, as you yourself have reported. I respect the people who have to put up with us, and the ships. If they want to limit the traffic, then I totally support that position.
If I lived in Juneau, I would vote YES to cruise-free Saturdays - it is one of the days most people have off work, so being able to actually enjoy your community and go about "normal" day off things, shopping, sports, and entertainment endeavours, without having to contend with thousands of people who are just there for a good time not a long time, would probably be quite enjoyable. I can not imagine living in a community where day in and day out, you are impacted by your population suddenly being flooded by 30% to 50% more people, for anywhere from 6 to 12 hours!! And this goes on for 5 to 5 1/2 months, at a time of year when Alaskans also want to get out and enjoy their surroundings. It must be exhausting.
Also appreciate you paying homage to Kris Kristofferson. That highwaymen song is great. Really like "Lovvin her was easier" and "Sunday morning coming down" by him.
Can anyone think of a reason to bring a baby monitor on board, other than to leave it in your stateroom so you can monitor your child when you are not there? Unless you're conducting some nefarious secret spy activity, why waste the real-estate in your luggage?
I kinda get their thinking. They do this at home when they are out of their room. What they didn't consider is that the house they're sailing on has thousands of total strangers. ;)
I can. If a family has connected cabins, with the kids in one cabin and the parents in another, I could see the parents wanting a baby monitor in there with them. Even if they leave the door open.
Yes, ship free Saturdays. As an Alaskan, I support giving Juneau a break, if that is the Juneau vote. They know ships bring money, but the ultra ships also bring crowds that overrun the area. Could not move in stores even away from the shipdock when I visited on a cruise last summer. Thankfully our ship left in the evening and the overage of folks thinned out. Leaving the city for twelve days or so in the summer will not cripple the economy. They have the legislative season coming soon. Bring on more ship ports for a day. Wrangle, Petersburg, Kake. More ships to Skagway or Haines, and Sitka. From my travels Alaskan cruisers enjoy mountains, wildlife, good Alaskan food, and adventuring in a place very different than the Lower 48. Overall, they are not US history buffs. The Russian history or Native history overwhelms.
Yes for cruise ship ban in Juneau. Can understand the local citizens' point of view. Thanks for acknowledging the passings of Dame Maggie Smith & Kris Kristofferson. Both large talents. Loved Kris' work, from acting to songwriting & performing, especially his time with The Highwaymen.
I'd vote yes to no cruises in Juneau, if I were a resident. Can you imagine living there and having every weekend taken over by crowds of cruisers. I hate going shopping in my own town on weekends because of the crowds. I totally understand them wanting one day a week without all the mess. And with Saturday being most peoples day off, it makes more sense to ask for that day of the week to be cruise free.
She's the reason I even tried the Harry Potter movies. I already liked her in Downton Abbey (Dowager Countess Violet is my favorite character), so when the science fiction channel here had a HP marathon, I figured there would be at least one person worth watching (I did become a HP fan eventually).
I’d vote yes to ban cruise ships on Saturdays (or even 2 or 3 days a week). And certainly if that’s what the community wants, cruisers should respect and support their decision. It’s their home.
I think the permanent year 'round residents of Juneau have good reason to seek this modest reduction in visitor traffic. Remember, many of the seasonal workers who descend on Juneau for the cruise season, are not residents, and will not be voting in this election.
They thought they were being cute insinuating they found a hack to have a child free dinner. It blew up in their face then they back tracked. One way or another they lost credibility and they are the only ones to blame. Not sure any other parent would bring a baby monitor with them, just goes to show when foolish people do foolish things it affects us all. I think that the ships maybe having power issues due to the amount of people traveling with multiple plugs.
Cruise ships have no shortage of power generated from their diesel generators. They typically have six DGs, four running, one in ready reserve, and one down for routine maintenance. Their output is well up in the 50+ megawatt range. What the cruise lines ARE worried about is overloading of circuits, which can cause a fire, and certain types of products (battery backups, some power strips) that cause a hazard when used shipboard because the ship is not "grounded" normally.
Anyone else curious as to why the family/friends who were supposedly watching their children haven’t come forward to confirm that they were indeed watching the children?
To be fair... if your point of view about Royal Caribbean sand box being fair to ban extension cords, then Alaska has the same right a out Saturday's with out cruise ships. We might not like it, but it's their sand box
I vote YES. No ships on Saturdays. We have been on 54 cruises so far and we love the idea of cruising. With that said, if it was our city we would agree that Saturdays should be for those of us that live there.
Ban these two and their baby monitor from cruising! If poor parenting is the way they influence folks, well we don’t need’em! There’s plenty of poor parenting without their help.
If their community is having a lot of congestion I would vote YES as this gives the people who live there the abilities to enjoy their area they are sharing with the rest of us. I’d also appreciate this time of limitation than some of the others we’ve seen so if this is a happy medium to partner with the residents then I’m all for it. Now if many other places start doing this, I’m sure it makes scheduling for the cruise lines a HUGE pain, but I guess that comes with the business.

Yes! Absolutely. I think no cruise ships on Saturdays is a great compromise. Also, the locals should definitely be able to enjoy a community celebration on Independence Day. My issue with my love of smaller ships is as you said they are either older ships or they are with the more expensive cruise lines. Would it really break their banks to design and produce some mid sized ships. The variety of non standard ports they can sail to would be a huge selling point, and for some less kids would do it too.
If they vote “yes” to have cruise free Saturday’s then I understand it. Alaska has become the “Go To” destination and these small coastal cities are packed with tourists from sunrise to sunset 7 days a week. This doesn’t leave the locals any time to just enjoy their hometown without the crowds and lines that come with the cruise ships. I understand that a very large percentage of the population rely on the tourist trade for their income. But I can see where they could use a day off to catch their breath or restock and resupply their businesses. Either way they should have this say so about the place they have chosen to call home, and the rest of us have only chosen to call a vacation destination.
Yes for ship free Saturday in Juneau. Let those residents enjoy their city one day on each weekend without so many tourists. When I was there last May, it was tourist chaos with all the ships in port…and it wasn’t even summer travel season.
@@blake_edwardsAnd it’s years between design and finished ship. Just think about how many devices you HAD to have 6 years ago on a ship and that same even more overwhelming need today. Who’d a thunk it? Course they could take out at least one deck of cabins and put in more generating capacity. Then raise prices to make up for the revenue lost. See all these toys make them no money. You work to make money. Companies make things, do services, transport goods, collect data, etc to make money. No profits, no jobs, no companies to work for. To make money so you can eat, have a place to live, have a family, spend money on things you don’t need. Life. The “you” I’m talking about is all the people who hate companies that want to make money. And will now savage me because I learned early in life that it’s a loop. Anyone breaks that loop and very quickly people are starving and living on the streets.
Thank you for the lovely tribute to Kris Kristofferson. 💕 Edit: This ⬆️ 100%, but also, and not to take away from that, a bonus hit of Westside Story? 👏👏💕

It's s tough balance between a tourist town and the regulars. I would vote yes on the Saturday cruise ship ban. Give the people who live there a chance to enjoy the area. The insane amount of cruisers that invade a port in one day must be overwhelming.
I feel like the backlash on multi tap plugs will eventually get to a reversal. I am sure there was an incident that resulted in everything not obvious being banned but 1000s of cruises have gone without issue with these products. I was on Adventure of the Seas in March and the reality is without a multitap there is no way we would have had enough plugs...not even close for 2 of us.
We have learned to "manage" our devices without resorting to multi-plugs - we get an extension cord from the cruise line on arrival, for our CPAP machines, the only really essential devices we both need plugged in at the same time.
the power outlet thing is most likley the wire size that they run to the cabins that is planned for the outlets in the room and a safety buffer on top. if lots of passengers start expand their room outlets by 4, they could overload the feed wires and that would at best cause a power outage and at worst a fire in the walls. as you say no bueno.
Sad they have zero common sense. They should be banned. You can't leave young kids alone. Sad you need a license to do just about everything except have kids.....Really sad the banned items have to be so extensive. People are just stupid...
I've said this for years as a mom of 5 & grandma to one. Unfortunately, there would be an outcry of biblical proportion if this were the case. Being a parent is difficult but rewarding. Not everyone should have children 🙄🙄🙄🙄.
There is literally no valid reason to bring a baby monitor on board a ship, especially when you’re sharing the same cabin with your kids. That who “looking inside the black out tent” is just a cover lie. A cabin is 1 minute big…if the kids are awake inside of that tent your ears will know.
At one time my toddler couldn't fall asleep if I was in the same hotel room as her so I'd hide in the bathroom and come out once she fell asleep which I knew for sure thanks to my baby monitor.
Ok two issues, if the baby monitor routes through the on board WiFi then it isn’t a technical issue, but if it uses radio frequencies in a direct peer to peer connection then it is for two reasons 1) it can cross bleed to other frequencies that the vessels uses for internal communications 2) depending upon the frequency in use it may be illegal in some countries to broadcast on those frequencies.
I read that several of the cruise companies have already informed the city of Juneau that they will be suing the city for a bunch if the vote goes against, based on prior contracts the city and state have made with the companies in return for civic investments made by the companies. You can't accept 10s of millions in infrastructure and port improvements and then kick out the people that paid the bills. Will be interesting to see how this comes out in the end.
I have to say I would definitely vote to have at least one day free of cruise ships. Maybe even both weekend days. Allow locals to enjoy their weekends free of crowds and work. Church, rest, family time, grocery shopping, home repair, shop restocking, trash pickup, road repair, local celebrations. Every community needs some relief from day trippers by the thousands. For those pointing out the brevity of the cruise season, its weather related. The locals can't do things in bad weather either.
I'm sure others also mentioned this. However, the ban on the baby monitor may be due to regional laws and frequency usage (aka band plan), as some countries have very different rules for what frequencies are acceptable. I am, of course, assuming this is not a Wi-Fi-based baby monitor.
The only issue I have with the multiplugs being banned is I need to make sure my European outlet adapters have just one plug so I can use them on land not necessarily on the ships.
As a tour operator in Ketchikan, Alaska, I can say that we went through this proposal earlier this year. But the general public does not seem to understand that you cannot just randomly eliminate one day of the week. Thankfully, it was quickly shot down here and never went to a public vote. The ships are scheduled two or three years in advance . While it might be easy to bypass Juneau on Saturdays, you cannot randomly skip July 4 because it falls on different days of the week and the cruise ships have a schedule that repeats every one or two weeks. If they do eliminate some port calls in Juneau, Ketchikan will happily take them!

Would it really break their banks to design and produce some mid sized ships. The variety of non standard ports they can sail to would be a huge selling point, and for some less kids would do it too.
Of course the baby monitor isn't going to mess anything up. They are just trying to guard against stupid parents.
Love your singing! Keep it up!!
Thanks!

Tony! You forgot Kris’ OTHER PERFORMANCE! He played THE RUBBER DUCK in the CONVOY MOVIE! 🙂
I like how you crack yourself up. Like when you felt like you were conjuring up a spell.😂
Yes for ship free Saturday in Juneau. Let those residents enjoy their city one day on each weekend without so many tourists. When I was there last May, it was tourist chaos with all the ships in port…and it wasn’t even summer travel season.
Sounds like there wasn't enough thought in building the A/C generators on the mega ships.
They can't produce enough electricity for everyone.
Limited space and weight restrictions play a big part in how much power can be provided.
Edit: This ⬆️ 100%, but also, and not to take away from that, a bonus hit of Westside Story? 👏👏💕
Matt and Abby were annoying before those kids were born.
LMAO 😂
Oh.Snap 😮😮😮😂😂😂
Never heard about them.
Good on them for banning the baby monitors. If you aren't willing to spend time with your (young) children you have no business cruising.
I am from Juneau. this has been an issue with the city for years. Sitka is having these talks as well
4:46 I got the same Anker charger, I guess I will have to leave that behind it was bought especially for cruising. I just bout the anker usb-c hub for future cruises.
I would vote for whatever the retailers and tour people in Juneau want. I would think Cruise passengers contribute greatly to their livelihood.
Yes is my vote.
Another great Show, dear Tony.🌟🌟🌟 Thank you!😎😎😎
It's s tough balance between a tourist town and the regulars.
You are really funny. You always make me smile. BUT NOW I HEARD YOUR GREAT SINGING VOICE> WOW Pure talent. Thanks Tony! More Songs on this channel.
the power outlet thing is most likley the wire size that they run to the cabins that is planned for the outlets in the room and a safety buffer on top. if lots of passengers start expand their room outlets by 4, they could overload the feed wires and that would at best cause a power outage and at worst a fire in the walls. as you say no bueno.
Bro! You sing well!. We need more of that!!
Hi 👋 Tony. Hope you guys didn’t get too much flooding where you are. Have a great day.
Yes I would vote yes! Good singing Tony Jenny B is lucky Greetings from down Under
I have to say I would definitely vote to have at least one day free of cruise ships.
If there is a ship free on Saturday, I would hope that all of the shops and stores would be open the other 6 days.
I think Kris was a helicopter pilot in Viet Nam. Another true patriot and hero passes. RIP
he was a helicopter pilot but never in Vietnam. He taught English at West Point.
but the USB power bank has to be safety certified and have the stamp. Many don't. I would love to get one if anyone has a suggestion.
Do you know if the strike at the ports will impact cruise operations?
We are booked on Majestic Princess L108 for Jan 25, 2026 we are excited to have a huge balcony! We are scared to leave the Royal......
RIP Kris Kristofferson❤ from my hometown of Brownsville, Texas
I'm so happy for those people who have been waiting for Villa Vie!
