The entire time i just kept imagining what this agents life was like. What his typical work days are like. Seems like one of the best jobs with huge upside for minimal work. Or at the least it gets much easier over time- just dickn around on ur phone all day during the transfer window and besides that… the other months of the year.. you just do… not much really
@@CimbomFanFictionDefinitely alot more to it than just dicking around on your phone and I can imagine alot more work than you think goes into the transfer negotiations and contract extensions all year round but they do get paid ridiculously well for what they do and they are only interested in getting their client the best deal possible just so they get more money.
Players paying them wouldn't change a thing. The players would just command more from the club to compensate their own losses
@@rfurms it would make a huge difference and it would be up to the clubs to band together to ensure that that doesn’t happen. None of them like having to pay agents and probably resent the whole situation so it’s in their interest.

The agent got his %, that's what he's in it for. The clubs should hire an agent to take care of all the players at the club, no percentages, no deceit, agent paid by the club, everyone working for the players best interest.

@@CptQuakers At least they wouldn't squeeze the clubs for fees, they wouldn't start rumours to raise value of players thus getting a higher fee, and if a player wants to leave a club and he's been transferlisted, it would be in the club's best interest to offload him, the better the players has performed at the club, the more willing the club would be to get him a good deal. You wouldn't get a Sancho situation, either he would have to buckle down or he would request a transfer, if the latter is the case it would be in the club's interest to offload him.

Simon trying to compare European football to the nfl is just delusional. Premier league puts a nfl style hard salary cap in, and the European clubs will just ignore their nice lil cap and premier league will lose value because their teams won’t be as competitive.
The NFL can cap salaries because there’s nowhere else to play gridiron football except them, and their owners were incredibly savvy to collective bargain for the cap decades ago instead fighting free agency the way Major League Baseball did.

Given the way the past few weeks have gone and the comments from managers and all related to FFP, all that with what happened to Everton, it looks like the January window will become redundant. Doesn't look there will be that much movement with the top clubs, and it looks like it'll turn into a loan window more than a transfer window.
Mr Jarman is making too much of his importance within a transfer. He should accept that he is doing this job for many reasons, and when those reasons are exhausted, i.e. when the player is contractually under the terms and conditions of his new club, he as an agent, does not have any financial or legal right to be involved anymore. If the purchasing club paid the agent as an employee, then Mr Jarman can dispute what he likes, but after decades of his like not having that club to agent relationship, then he should stop creating reasons that will never exist to be involved post sales of a player.
Wrong, players are closest to their agents and turn to them for advise both in the good and the bad times. The relationship is a unique one and when players go through difficult patches it's normally the agents, family and friends that pull them through, not the clubs.

@Eric76 Spot on. As was argued in the show earlier today, the club pays the player and the contract of employment is signed with the club. The agent is effectively nicking a living by making the player more expensive for the club.
Its obvious that the reason the agent wants close involvement after a transfer is to constantly be in their ear looking for the next move.
The simple question for the agent is this.
Who employs the agent ?
So if it’s the footballer, why does he not pay the agent.

Why do players not pay the agent? Why should a club? Utter nonsense system. Why should a club pay a guy to negotiate for somebody else? Lawyers represent their clients? Who pays them? If the player is your client, why does the club pay?

The only rational solution is to implement a salary cap. A salary cap would control players and agents.
End of the day, agents profits from when a player move place. They don’t want Whats best for the player, they want the best for themselves and they often have a very limited set of players. ”I want the best for my client” is such a cop out. They will have whatever behaviour which transfers a player from one place to another, cause in its their interest to do so.

The American model of sport has loads of problems but the way agents work isn't 1 of them. The agents work for the players. They get paid by the players not clubs. They get a percentage of the wages they secure and that's it(6 or 10% I beleive).
