    Nice install. It's good to have a buddy who can weld and fabricate. He clearly understands the engineering required to make the install as strong as possible. Most of us would struggle to find someone with those skills willing to help. Thanks for sharing .

    When bolting through box tubing drill for sleeves and weld in to prevent tubing from crushing. For an example Jeep sleeve the frame for steering gear through bolts.
    Other than that good video.

    I changed my trailing arm suspension on my Moby to 3500 lb Timbren. A lot of work but I've had no problems since. I built a custom gusset like you did for the extra support and to keep the square frame frame compressing. I also used the cross member for further strength. I tightened all bolts after the first extreme use. Great product.

    Awesome I've been looking into these type of axles for a while now. Interesting to see how they are installed. Good job bud

    Nice job, it’s much better to “over engineer” mods than to break on the trail, I’m looking forward to the review after you run it for a while.

    My last travel trailer was a single axle unit that came from the factory with a misaligned and possibly bent axle. You’ll know pretty fast if the alignment is good as it’ll burn up the tires if it’s not....but I’m sure you guys are spot on...

    Audio wasn't bad! Recovered it well. Looks like an interesting install. I'm surprised the 3500lb axle bent.

    I just finished building my teardrop camper and I built the trailer to mount it on. I also used 1200 pound Timbren but my camper only weighs 250 pounds and the trailer frame weighs 250 pounds, so 500 pound total dry weight on a 1200 pound suspension. I also put angle stiffeners on the inside of the frame and used the 2 inch square tubing cross member like you did.
    I live in Bend BTW.

    Sure would like to know if you are happy with the Timbren axel-less suspension. I have removed my tandem torsion axels ( 40 years old pre-Dexter ! ) Am planning on installing Timbren axel-less 1 ton (long arm) two sets on my RV. Is there anything you would do different as far beefing up the frame prior to mounting? Thank you.

    I have a couple questions if you don't mind.
    1. What is the thickness of your frame tubing? 2. Did the angle iron on the back side solve any tube buckling issues? What thickness angle iron did you use?
    I'm in a similar position as you with tube steel that is pretty thin at 0.09". I was thinking about putting 1/4" plate on each side of the frame tube to sandwich it
    Thanks!

    How does this suspension perform on highway travel? Does it dramatically decrease fuel efficiency compared to a dexter when it comes to high speed highway travel? With gas prices skyrocketing lately just wondering if it's worth it to have better off road performance but poorer fuel economy?

    I would like to install the Timberen suspension on my old trailer. Should I get a 3500 long arm HD for a bigger Overland trailer. How long did it take to perform the entire job? Should I install BRAKES on the trailer? Is it a good idea to have brakes on an Overland trailer set up??

  • @AliAlanbary
    @AliAlanbary 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Very nice job, I have solution for the tire not at the middle
    You can get 2 new rise plastic pads and raise up the suspension.
    That will raise up the trailer and move the tire forward just a little. It could really center the tire

    i was thinking about the timbren setup for my m416 trailer. for now i have 5.5x5 to 5x5 wheel adapters so i can run my JL tires on the trailer. electric brakes would be nice, but that hand brake on mine is awesome. looking forward to the followups on how you like the setup!

    Hi im just curious what the clearance from ground to frame is with the 4 inch drop. I currently have a deck over tire squaredrop and I want to install this but the timbren website doesn't have much info regarding measurement specs. Thanks!

  • @Hangs4Fun

    So how does the trailer ride now?
    I could def see where the 3500 axle was too much and making it not ride good. But also good to see that just because you have the size now you properly thought through the structural mods needed to take the abuse it will surely get.
    Have a great day Jason!

  • @alandickson1629
    @alandickson1629 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why would you use 1 ton Timbren and not 3500 lb ones? If your 3500 Dexter broke would beefier not be better?

  • @mrneil962

    One "tonne" is 2200 lb (1000 kg). The ASR1THDS03 is a different model than the 2000 lb one "ton" model.

    So we have to really know the weight of our trailer or we could possibly get the wrong Timbren? Dang. So when I design and build my trailer I have to find out how much each foot of metal weighs and calculate as well as every part I add to it? Yikes. That’s a mathematical nightmare. I really just thought it mattered on tire size and sort of the weight but I didn’t think a axleless suspension can be too big. I plan on DIYing my trailer in the next several years. I’m hoping to buy a house in the next several years and then the first thing I’m doing is building a trailer since I’ll have a garage to do it and store it once complete.

    Am in doing the same mod. Question: did you have any problems getting the bolts ( attaching the suspension to frame) to 165ft/lbs? I made the same kind of L angle bracket and even added gussets, but I can’t get the bolts to spec without the hanger starting to buckle.

    I have several Jackery's (one 500, two 240). I have problems with the cigarette plugs slipping out. I don't think it is a Jackery problem - just the next to useless cigarette plugs. I want to use the 6mm 12 volt output ports instead, but I cannot find a supplier of 6mm male connectors or cables. Well, I did find one, but it was in China and will take a month or two to get here and once (and if) it does, who knows what they will look like. Does anybody have a solution?

      Cut shallow groove on frame, slide timbren in forward and weld groove both sides.
      Extra clearance for tires.
