    It's best to drop the oil pan before installing the seal plate so you're not smearing the bottom bead of RTV/ Honda bond. The oil pan can then be pressed directly onto the engine without any smearing of the RTV bead

    • @supersabrosinho
      @supersabrosinho 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can lift the plate up and over the crank, then set it down on that bottom ledge with little to no smearing. That is if you didn't press in the seal in beforehand. But yes, if you're this far into an engine might as well re-seal the whole oil pan while you're at it

    When many J-series V6 engines last to 500k, it's a good idea to go ahead and get the rear main seal and O'ring replaced, even if the vehicle has over 300k on the odometer. Thanks for the informative video.

    lmao. 3:45 mark "this o-ring is not compromised it's just flat, honda/acura o-rings just flatten out over time, see it's just flat" Great video covering the RMS and o-replacement, glad you skipped the removing the engine part.

    Thanks for showing this. have about 200,000 miles on my V6 2005 Accord and that rear seal leaks a bit, but luckily not too bad. I just need to top off by about half a quart between oil changes.

    Is there an additive that you might recommend for those who have a slow leak and want to stop the leak but not cause swelling of other seals/o-rings? Does such an additive exist?

      I tried ATP at-205 reseal because I saw alot of people say it works but I can't say it stopped my leak but it seems to have slowed it down for sure. I don't like to use additives but I can't get to my rear main until spring so I tried something to get my till then. They sell it at advanced auto parts but not auto zone

    The replacement oring is smaller than the original. It won't seal the high pressure oil. Is there a possibility the replacement oring is not the correct size?

    @Bundysgarage hiii sir . I have a question I have a oil leak underneath my MDX. My MDX was leaking from multiple points but here what I already changed a timing belt kit with all the camshaft seal, the 3 of them I also replaced oil pump gasket and oil filter housing gasket. I was cheking for leaks from the camshaft plug seal o ring but it’s dry not leaks. I inspected the valve cover gasket not leaks. But I see oil running down the oil pan and in the transmission between engine and transmission. So my question is can a rear main seal leak travel down to the oil pan , transmission and oil pan bolt? Thank you .

    I know this is an old video, but im doing this now trying to teach myself and hoping for some help. When removing the seal retainer or rear main seal housing i didnt notice any residual honda bond above the o-ring. When applying would it need to be applied above as well? I know it is a mating surface, but wasnt sure specifically for that area, im assuming nothing on the inner mating surface near the crank as well. Also, i noticed what appreared to be pink threadlock on the housing bolts, do you use hondalock 2ht when reinstalling? Sorry for the long comment. Any help would be appreciated.

    I would recommend removing the oil pain before installing the rear cover

      Why

    • @pewpewoutlaw6181
      @pewpewoutlaw6181 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I would assume it's because the oil pan in its current position will scrape off the RTV while installing the the cover plate. If the oil pan is dropped you can then properly bring the surfaces together rather than scrape them by each other

    • @supersabrosinho
      @supersabrosinho 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No need to. You can bring the plate up and over with very little smearing. Just don't install the seal before installing the plate

      Why does everyone say that. I'm giving you free advice/info and all any ones bitches about is that the motor is out of the car. I'm showing you what to do. If the engine is in the car, you have to drop the transmission, hold the engine in place so it doesn't drop down and then replace the seal.

      It's pretty expensive, you have to drop the whole transmissions. If you have a small leak I have seen good results with ATP-AT205 Re-Seal (just keep in mind if the rear main seal is ripped or torn it might not work) SEE IT HERE: amzn.to/3hhZNEc

    I just changed the transfer case fluid on my 2014 MDX and I noticed oil leaking from the top of it. I checked the oil pan and transmission pan and no leak. I checked the head gasket and was ok. Do you know of another leak area that’s above the transfer case or could it be the rear main seal. Thanks for all your videos

    • @michaelbelt1020
      @michaelbelt1020 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd say your rear main is leaking or that oil port seal. I just chased that same leak down and after I did all my oil pump seals, valve covers, and oil pan I still have a leak up above my passenger axle seal area. I'm doing my rear main next. Make sure you check your rear camshaft cover seal before you do the main just to make sure. It's also a common leak up in that area.
