- I'm a cyclist and I live in the Pennines and welcome to my channel.
On today's ride, me and my cycling buddy, Mike, are off out on another fantastic bike ride, where we venture into the lovely countryside around Lancashire and the Bowland Fells on route to The Stone Jetty Cafe in Morcambe.

Hello Tony and thanks for commenting. Part of the joy for me is now planning a basic ride the night before and then playing about with it mid ride - a bit ad hoc in a way. It's always easier when you are not in a big group because you will always upset someone with the usual, "How far to the cafe" or "Not more hills". But once you are reasonably fit you can make the basic ride an even better one. It just takes time to build up the map in your mind as to where you will end up.

Hi Sandra and thank you for taking the time to comment. The TH-cam algorithms don't push channels like mine because the content is too varied. I have so many hobbies and interests. The Artificial intelligence struggles to register this and offer it to a wide variety of audiences.

I recently lived for 3 years in a village near Garstang and loved cycling these roads. I've moved away now but the place remains very special to me ❤

I’m not sure which is more entertaining, the “outtakes” or the actual ride. Either way they are massively entertaining, but more important is that you can take the information you’ve both given in your ride, and use it to plan your own ride. Always good useful and helpful commentary.
I seriously think your subscribers should have a “whip-round” so we can buy Mike some stabilisers so he can do a perfect “Track-stand”
But well done mike as I do believe you pulled one off on the “outtakes” at the end. Great stuff. 😀
Still off the bike after the crash so these videos really really cheer me up, but also make me envious as you lads are out and about loving what we love….. cycling 😀👍

Hi you guys, yet another fantastic ride, video amazing. I said I want to be like you when I grow up but its just never going to happen. Most of my rides get deleted. I was out yesterday another lovely dull day but still managed 63 miles, I put my rides on Komoot. I think Mike is brilliant my type of humour 😊
Cheers buddy, chapeau on the 63 miles, that's great going. I thought I was doing ok with a 50 miles on the days commute to work yesterday. Tell ya what, them Lake District mountains look super from this cafe.

@MrDazP1adv3ntures Hi Daz the ride was on my ebike it has a 248 watt hour battery at the end of the ride I had 58 % left on the battery and had 73 miles range left I could have ridden about 136 miles ,which means I peddle with out assistance for most of the ride ,but at13 miles per hour I ran out of daylight. Thanks for the offer to ride with you but there's no way you could ride that slow! Thank-you my friend

I live in Hampshire but my nana live in Broughton just outside of Preston so when i come up i love the lanes and climbs up here. You can't beat it
It's a hilly old place up here Reece, all the old races such as the Milk Race and the Sealink international used to target these areas for the terrain
Great watch as always and of course I'll be trying out a few trackstands on my next ride now (suspect I'm a bit rusty on that front due to not commuting for a couple of years!). The WOTR route over that way out of Lancaster is a real treat. 🙂

It is an excellent bike ride, whether you do It in a day or over 3 or more days as a camping trip.
I tend to use the route to get me from the coast back towards more familiar places in the Dales because it is pretty well sign posted.
As for track stands, I'd recommend that you spd's aren't to tight , just in case.👍
@@MrDazP1adv3ntures yeah did it back in 2018 over a couple of days (camping). Really is a great route but i remember that climb out of Settle fully loaded nearly finished me off! 🙂
@onemorecyclist It's a cracking climb is High Hill lane and I dare say could make you or break you.

This ride had a good blend of everything Phillip and I really enjoyed it.
Our average speed was pretty low for about 70 miles or so due to filming and faffing but the final leg from Settle to Whalley we "Big ringed it' and pulled a few mph back.

Another great ride out lads! Great banter! I also enjoyed Mike’s geology knowledge so much to learn this channel is not just cycling. 😂 For the record it’s jam first on a scone & the white bread thing is a Barm! 😉
Every day is a learning day for me and Mike, Kevin , but we might have to differ on the old scone debate. Mike opted out on this one and threw a bit of a swerved ball with the Victoria sponge but nevertheless, we managed to get a bike ride in amongst all the nonsense going on 🙂👍

I must admit, I am liking the cycling all around Lancaster, you have the Lakes, Cumbria, the coast and the Dales, all on your doorstep, and

Can I ask what gear ratios you are using? I'm currently running 11-30 on the rear and that's fine for round my area but in summer going to be heading out to the lakes more. Would 11-32 or 11-34 cassette make a difference?
That's a cracking question.
I am a big supporter of compact set ups.
A 50x34 on the front with an 11x30 on the back is a pretty good starting point for most hilly days in the Pennines, especially if you like spinning. The next two options with a 32 or a 34 rear cassette are really good insurance options which will get you up any hill ( I'm thinking of Hard Knott pass type of climbs here).
You might find that you don't need to stand up and dance on the pedals.
Just be mindful of the jumps in the ratios as you might sacrife things a bit lower down in the mid range ratios when you are cruising on the flatter sections.
I would say give it a go for sure, maybe look at trying a 105 cassette to keep the price tag reasonable.
I'd also make sure the rear mech is able to cope.

@@MrDazP1adv3ntures thank you for the reply. I'll take your advice and give it a try, I'll keep the 11-30 in case I want to go back to it. Funny you mentioned Hard knott because those are the types of climbs I had envisioned.
It's a brute of a climb but if you carry some reasonable fitness and more so believe in yourself, you'll get up it.

Great vid guys, the roads were dry and they look pretty good. They have certainly worsened since then around Chipping and Bleasdale. I was up there today and it was pretty rough around plus it was p*****g down. 41 miles done though and drying wind on the way home.I tried to get 40mph out of the old Ridgeback but the best I could manage was 36 😊
The roads are shocking every where at the moment Terry and also full of deisel, but kudos for getting out on such a dreary day.
40mph is quick enough too.
I managed 40 miles on my daily commute too, albeit through Ramsbottom, Bury and Oldham.
The bike was filthy when I got home.
@@MrDazP1adv3ntures I checked the repairs done where I came off a while back and they have done the holes I photographed and left the rest around them😊
I guess the local authorities have to spend their money wisely given all of the other things that the money is allocated for these days.
We should have the best roads in the world given the wealth of country

Just watching this one now pal , hey to my area cheers nice one . Had a tough ride early this morning with a loop on the trough with jubilee , wray , helks brow cross of greet trough of bowland it was near 6000 ft in just 40 miles was tough I’m knackered but was a good ride on those peaceful back roads
6k ft over a short course is great going. I have cycled up all of them hills so respect to you there buddy.
I do like riding around this neck of the woods, most of the descents are pretty quick on their day and some of the climbs are brutal in a nice way.🚴♀️👍
@@MrDazP1adv3ntures it was literally up and down all morning with no flats , hell of a workout with over 2600 calories burned ! Two unknown climbs for you to try when your next in the area is from near bull beck then up Holme lane then onto moor side rd then left onto quarry road that takes you up to the caton moor wide farm for one of the best views around on a clear day with views of the lakes hills , Pennines & the Yorkshire peaks . Another climb is from wray up school rd then left onto moor lane go past little roeburndale church on the left then take the gates to the right and follow that pathway where it gets very steep up and down through more gates then up to roeburndale road at the top and on that road you can drop back down to caton area with a fantastic descent

@@MrDazP1adv3ntures yeah that’s all good apart from the part near middle salter / roeburndale with the gates is not on street view but it is rideable (just) as there are segments on Strava
The route is similar to the Bowland Forest Populaire Audax which takes place at the end April.
I never knew that, I normally look on Google maps the night before and see how things will roughly link up.
I must admit though, the more you ride around these parts, the more you develop a better map in your head of where you might end up.
i live in Hapton near Padiham, so all these routes you do are very close to me, defo subbed, keep up the entertaining vids :), do you have a strava account?
I know Hapton and Padiham well, in fact I'm impressed with the new look as you cycle through the town with the paving job the council has done.

I do have a Strava account but don't follow anybody, I just use it for the data and mapping to put as much detail into the videos as possible if you know what I mean.
We have been driving to Whalley makes for a better day out over recent years as it gives us options to go further afield, otherwise we'd be doing 150 mile rides if we set off from our home town.
@@MrDazP1adv3ntures yea I went over to Whalley last week for a loop around clitheroe, I’ve lived round here all my life but never seen half the places that are so close to me, I’m new to road biking so I’m really enjoying getting out into the countryside.

I watch a lot of videos by Northern Monkeys. Who film all the old mines around Hapton, cliviger, Bacup and Burnley. It's interesting stuff
Hi. Just watched your lejog video. Your route looks brilliant. I am wondering if you have a gpx of the route you took. I am going to do lejog in 10 days. I live close to Bolton.
Hi John I do not have access to them. It's a relatively easy route to plan. I made my own routes up as I went along but this was based on knowing where the accommodation was, some of which was decided the night before at the end of a stage, or during the ride by using online hotel sites etc. Travel Lodges are Ok because you can keep the same routine after each day with the same bedroom format and set up. Routines are key, I find !
*John o' Groats to Invergordon is two roads. The A99 and the A9. (Some go to Thurso on the A836 and follow the A9 south)
*Invergordon to Fort William was The A9 then the A862 A833 A831 A82
*Fort William to Glasgow was the A82 and A814 to Glasgow
*Glasgow to Carlisle was the A814 (Argyle st) - (London Rd) A749 A724 A72 B7078 (Carlisle rd) A702 B7076 After Gretna approaching Carlisle - National Cycle route 7 A6 to Southwaite
* I would plan the best route to home from here using the A6 and then local knowledge. You might need some bike maintenance too.
* the next stage from Bolton would be up to you but I would head towards Shrewsbury. Be careful on the A49.
The best tip I can give you is to read the maps regardless and build up a picture of where you want to be, what town ? how far is each leg you want to ride and is there accommodation within that distance.
If you have a Garmin, the menu can be set up to navigate for shortest route, quickest route, cycle touring etc, You can then programme each stage of the day with a 30 mile leg navigate from town to town trusting the Garmins route choice. They can be very good at getting you from A to B with minimal thinking needed - especially if you are tired. I would take a power bank As well so that ypu have enough juice to run your gadgets all day.
Using Google maps can be useful because you can plan routes for cycling and it will give you an idea of the terrain with a graph

A hybrid with a set of slick tyres will certainly shift Terry.I love my hybrid, especially with the 1x11 42t on the front and 32/11 on the back combo.
I met a bloke at the campsite the other day doing JOGLE.
He had to change from his Specialized carbon road bike part way through because his hands went numb.
He was riding a conventional iron horse with a raised handlebar stem for comfort.
@@MrDazP1adv3ntures Iron is the future, we met 4 lads on the A6 tonight having a rest on four really rough old bikes, I said where are you heading and they said JOG and I worry about doing 50/60 miles on my hybrids. What an adventure for them. It was a game of two halves today with the wind but it has been a cracking week with four 40 + mile rides.
Four 40 milers is great going Terry, Chapeau to you ! The more riding you do a this distance quickly pays dividends with the fitness levels .
If ever you meet a JOGLE / LEJOG rider, it should always be counted as a privilege in my opinion. It is the ride of lifetime and for those who take it on, it shows some determination for sure.
Living in the NW of the UK, we are normally about day 4 or 5 on the route.
Good old-fashioned miles 👌🏻 too many English cycling youtubers trying to be cute and follow the crowd with this kilometers nonsense.
Well said, We are just cycling enthusiasts who take a couple of cameras out and try to make sense of the day with the all important cafe stop.
