  • Cycling on a some of Lancashire's finest country lanes to the Half Moon Bay Cafe at Heysham. On this ride I take you to the Trough of Bowland which is an area of outstanding natural beauty and showcase some of the stunning scenery along with the fantastic descents this place has to offer.
If you are a keen cyclist or are looking to get into this great sport then I hope this video offers you an insight into road cycling and what is out there waiting to be discovered in the North West of England.

If It’s rainy or cold outside or it’s the middle of winter, I find rewatching your videos makes for a better day. A reminder that once the colds over that springs on the way and the great rides done by yourself, can be enjoyed by all. This video is one of those to cheer folk up during the winter months. Great views and nice roads. Funny thing happed a few week ago. Bought a second hand bike, full ULTRGRA spec and was intended as an upgrade from the one I’ve got. Absolutely love it in every way. Got it home and thought “It looks familiar, and “I’ve seen this before I’m sure”
Yep….. it was a Raleigh Revenio 3 in red.
Looked back at your vids, and this one in particular, and there it is.
    😂😂
Small world, and a lovely bike.
Thanks again Daz for an uplifting ride and I’ll be sure to try this ride (but a bit shorter) and I’m sure it’ll be fab.

Hello Steve, I hope your recovery continues and you are getting out, even if the weather has been a bit dreary recently.
Thank you so much for your positive comments, they are greatly appreciated.
It is refreshing to hear that you have got a Raleigh Revenio Carbon 3.
I am a big advocate of them, they are a really well put together bike and are excellent value for money.
I blinged mine up quite a bit from the stock model but straight out of the box, the Ultegra groupset and RSP bars, stem and seat post were more than good enough.
The best weight I have got the bike down to is 7.3kg all in with pedals and cages fitted. You could get it nearer to 7.00kg with super light tyres and inner tubes but then it would not be as practical when riding on our heavy roads.
I like the fact that they also kept the external bottom bracket on this model which makes life a lot easier. My Militis has a PF30 BB which hasn't been a problem but is means more faffing about to replace it.
There was one for sale on Ebay in the red colour a few weeks ago, it looked like it was NOS to me. The paint has a rubberised texture to it and really "pops" out if you spray tyre foam on to it then wipe it off with a cloth, GT 85 also makes it shine but it will attract dust.
Let me know what you think of it after a few rides pal.

I was coal miner work on coal face when i was 19 did few years on the face. Then i went into the developments tunnelling worked for N C B. for 18 years then worked for cementation for another 8 years. I was working at golborne colliery when we had the explosion but i was working 2 1/2 miles further in. We was linked up to bickershaw and parsonage so we had to make are way through to bickershaw to get up to the surface. I carried one of the miners coffin at his funeral took me a few years to get over the explosion. I worked at every coal mine in the northwest parkside was the last colliery in Lancashire.. Then i went to the silverdale in stoke and Dawmil till i had a injury that was my tunnelling days over. The place were you go gold panning tyndrum they were looking for experienced men if i was younger a fit id would have been knocking on the door for a job. They was saying they have found one of the biggest gold reserves in Europe don't live far of one of your old stomping grounds. three sisters race track. ⛏️🚲👍

Thank you so much for the reply Stephen. I bet you can tell some stories.
I watch a TH-cam channel called Northern Monkeys, they go down all the old mines and adits in the Burnley area. Very interesting stuff..
A big thanks for sharing your experiences too, I can't begin to imagine what you and your workmates went through.
I saw the jobs being advertised on the Scotgold website up at Tyndrum but there is a housing problem up there for people who want to live and work in the area, especially with it being so remote.
I used to work in the Spinning and Weaving industry in the 1980's to late 90's and a bit like all the mines, the mills have all been shut down and nothing gets made any more. I researched "Textile mechanic" " Carding mechanic" etc on a job site the other week. It never recognised the jobs.
I guess we are at risk of becoming dinosaurs in this modern tech driven world but at least we know how to get our hands dirty...

Yes at last all those roads I know we’ll glad you’re finally experiencing the ones I enjoy , gutted Mike has missed out on this one . Yes that jubilee descent is very risky you need to break way before you think you do as it’s so easy to hit 50 down that , you know ur a local when you know the guy behind you at the cafe he’s in a band called solid silver !! , so on the other side of helks brow it was closed for a long time after the road fell away to the side but has not been re built hence you made it through, the highlight has to be cross of greet decent it’s brilliant love a middle of no where road . There a SIX roads out of wray & one of them is a very good dead end climb near roeburnscar that’s not even on google street view . In other news I just did only my 4th 100 miles from Lancaster to knott end then to devils bridge and back in 6 hours has good pace . Anyway thanks for the quality video cheers pal you made my day

Well done on the 100 miler too. 6 hours ain't too shabby at all.
Tell you what though, I turned right at one point on that long climb up Helks Brow in search of the secret road to the top of the Cross of Greet and then thought, nargh this won't be it, and it was.
I checked on Google earth later.
I turned around at a nice cottage on the lane.
I totally get it when you talk about your cycling lanes up here.

Great ride mate, we love your posts, fantastic scenery and some cracking rides, cheers for sharing them. Always amazed to see the speed potential of a bike, do you run special pads on your brakes, and how is the stopping power on a fast descent?. Cycling is a brilliant way to travel as long as you can avoid issues with other transport. All best, good luck.

    • @MrDazP1adv3ntures
      @MrDazP1adv3ntures  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Thanks for the comments Greetb, I run a standard set of rubber pads on the calipers which are Shimano compatible and my rims are alloy bonded to a carbon body so the stopping power is pretty good yet the wheel weight is relatively low. You have to chose a different pad material when the braking surfaces are carbon on the wheel.
It is all about reading the road ahead and a bit of knowledge of what lies ahead always helps when you are flying down a descent

      They are a good GPS.
Go into the menu as you are cycling along and programme towns near by.
      Press where to.
      Search tools
      Cities
Then type in a known place.
      Then ride.
I always read a map of the area I want to explore so have an idea of where I want to be, but the garmin is really good at helping you find quieter roads.
