  • Hello and Welcome, Alex from Beaglington-On-Sea here to introduce the next episode of 'The Beaglington Review'.
In this review I will be casually looking at a pair of the 3D printed 00 gauge Era 1 'Double Coal' wagons produced by Sam's Trains exclusively for people who have subscribed to the Channel on TH-cam and have a paid membership to the Channel.
These wagons are made to give people modelling early railways some more variety in terms of the rolling stock their old engines can haul, and offer a different type of open wagon to the Hornby 'Rocket Tender' style of wagon.
They are also coupling converter wagons which have NEM pockets that contain and NEM compatible peg coupling for a chain plastic coupling to attach to, but can also be swapped out for a tension lock coupling.
I'm proud to say that this wagon came from my repeated suggestion that we needed a converter wagon to allow our non-era 1 things to couple to the Hornby Era 1 rolling stock with it's ghastly coupling system. Thus we now have a wagon that does the job, I got the idea from the Triang/Dublo converter.
Sam produces a different exclusive wagon at the start of each month and open's the order window for 7 days. You can buy up to five wagons before shipping too. The wagons are usually printed in plain grey plastic with black chassis which have been upgraded to be mounted to the bodies with screws. This latest offering is on a completely new chassis, features rivet detailed strapping on the wagon bodies, coal loads of which there are eight different styles which also adds some variety, they are also removable. The wagons come with two flat plastic chain/bar style couplings and have peg style couplings fitted as standard and one Sam's Trains NEM tension lock coupling.
These are not super detailed mass produced items of rolling stock, they are simple, fun and yet very convincing and still rather well detailed home made/produced models and so they can't really be judged too seriously unlike the Hornby Rocket Coach I reviewed before.
