@Pax Domini I agree. What I meant is that too many Christians focus on pumping their minds with doctrine and theology while their hearts are far from God. As Leanord Ravenhill used to say they know of God but don't know Him.

@Pax Domini again I agree with you. I am not disputing the importance of having a right view of God from the mind. I come from fundamental baptist circles where they only focus on intellect and doctrine and it made me weary. So I agree it should be a healthy balance of both. I was admiring Todd's humility because teachers in my circles would never be that willing to admit they need help.

I haven’t seen condemnation just calling out error and a BIG ERROR it was! Todd, in this video does NOT apologize for his remarks or repent. He only tries to clarify. ADB, who hasn’t seen the video nor heard his comments adds damage control by teaching the proper meaning to the text!

I agree with you, in a sense. But Todd White is NOT a member of the congregation. He was PREACHING to the congregation. He needs to know these things BEFORE he preaches on them. He even said in this video that he has a reading comprehension disability. How is his congregation supposed to know when they should give him a chance to respond to complaints or when to take what he said and how he said it, to heart? If no one from the outside of his organization had been scandalized by what he said, the whole congregation would have believed him literally, of those who took it that way. Also, I watched that video and it was clear that he DID mean it the way he now says he did not mean it.

I think a revelation from God of who He is when we read His word no one can bring that deep revelation of the depth of it , People , every human soul who live in the face of the world today their lives is more vital to God , that's why He died
for us all , Our walk with God many and many things our human mind can't understand it , That we don't understand about Him . You set a good example for the body of Christ how to walk in a lowly road , i admire your humility keep up the good work. God blessings and go for it .

We are more concerned about sin which has been dealt with, washed, forgiven, removed, purged, forgotten, taken away, and judged forever.
But we are least worried about self-righteousness which God despises, hates, and rejects.
So, we need to seek first His righteousness and everything else will fall in place.
We are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus - When we declare thus, God is glad and Jesus Christ is glorified.

According to Paul's writing in 2Corinthians 5:19-22 “Jesus became sin and did not know sin , so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. “ “ Jesus appealed to God on behalf of Israel and the world?. “
where is Paul's statement on the Tanakh? Why Paul did not quote the Tanakh when he said these verses? Paul's words do not reflect anywhere on the entire chapter of Isaiah 53. How do we know why this is a huge contradiction with Isaiah 53? because Paul contradicted himself when he said that Jesus was murdered not sacrificed. Paul called Jesus “servant of God” , Paul referred to Jesus simply a man . So that means, Jesus was not God but the God of Abraham , Isaac, and Jacob resurrected him. I am just quoting the NT writings. (Acts 3:13,19 ,26 ) Jesus and the God of Abraham were two different identities and entities. ( Acts 5:30 ,31 ) Paul stated that Jews needed to repent in order for their sins to be wiped out and receive redemption ( no need for human blood atonement as it was written in Isaiah 1:11-20 and Ezekiel 18: 18-21 30- 33 ; Matthew 4:17 and Deut ) and change of heart to believe the Gospel of the Kingdom as preached by the Prophets not NT writings , and to keep Torah not just.... believe in a blood sacrifice atonement gospel. That's the contradiction that Christians can not reconcile with the theological doctrines using the NT writings.
PAUL HIMSELF STATED THAT HE WORSHIPED THE GOD OF THE FOREFATHERS NOT JESUS. PAUL SAID THAT HE ONLY BELIEVE ACCORDING TO TORAH AND THE TANAKH. NOTHING ELSE. THAT MEANS HE OBSERVED TORAH (LAW OF MOSES) AND THE TANAKH. PAUL WAS CHARGED OF NOT OBSERVING THE LAW OF MOSES BUT ON HIS DEFENSE HE CONFIRMED THAT HE PREACHED ACCORDING TO THE LAW OF MOSES AND THE PROPHETS. (Acts 24:14,16)
Another important matter, there is no where in the NT writings that Jesus said “ia m turning myself in for the sake of Israel or the world ” because I came or I am an atonement for Israel or the world. Did he? That will be a huge contradiction from his words.
On the other hand, Jesus never preached “human blood atonement gospel OR “ that he was the human blood sacrifice in order to get the forgiveness of sins through him. His preaching subject was repentance and the kingdom of God, and keeping the commandments of God.
He actually preached repentance and to keep the Torah in order to get eternal life as required to enter the kingdom of God. That's a huge contradiction If someone will use a the “human blood atonement gospel”. Case in Point: If salvation was so important through the blood of Jesus or human blood atonement and nothing else matter but just to believe it only. Why didn't Jesus preach it in his entire ministry???? Instead , Jesus' main preaching subject was repentance from the heart and believe in the Gospel of the kingdom and keeping Torah as recorded in the Tanakah as mentioned in Mark 1:15, Luke 4:43, Luke 24:44,45 ; Matthew 19: 16-21 ; Acts 3:13,19 ,26 ; Acts 5:30 ,31 32 That would be a huge contradiction to the text and to the christian theology.
The bottom line is if you are Messianic Jew or christian, according to your own NT book, you must repent in order for your sins and iniquities to be forgiven and a new change of heart to return to God and to believe in the right Gospel of the Prophets and to Keep the Torah as your lifestyle which will honor Hashem. True Repentance means not turning back to sin otherwise you are still a sinner in your heart before the Almighty God. But Christians says if you repent but you still can continue to be a sinner if you only believe in the blood of Jesus. Jesus never preached that in his ministry.
The act of repentance or turning back to God and stop sinning will be considered an act of “righteousness” before God, if we will obey his words written in the Tanakh. That means, we must honor the words of the Tanakh to be considered righteousness just like how Abraham did it. If God says if you repent and your sins are wiped out. You better believe it. Otherwise you are believing doctrines of men. Acts 8:22, ; Acts 17:30 ; Acts 26:20 ; In Revelation 3:10 Jesus said we must remain obedient to God's commandments by endurance. Otherwise you will be rejected. Even if you believe in Jesus' blood in your heart, will not save you if you don't obey Torah and Tanakh. Revelation 12:17 Read Ecclessiastes 12: 12-14 is the bottom line of the bottom line.

The gift we are given is truly, truly amazing. But there are those who won't, nor will ever, believe. At least not until they come face-to-face with Him, yet it is too late. And there are those that profess their belief, but their hearts have not changed. Everyone that comes to Jesus will do so in their own time and place, because their hearts need to be touched in a way that brings transformation. I don't believe anyone can be lead to Jesus. We can only plant the seed. That seed must grow within until we seek Him out ourselves, when it is our heart, will, and desire to know Him.

I love Todd White, and I do wish some of his internet critics would listen to him with a more open heart, rather than a judgemental "looking for a broken sentence to condemn with", in the words of George Whitefield. Yes, he can sometimes express things clumsily, like all of us, but I respect him as a true brother with a tremendous passion for God. I think Todd needed to clarify things more in that sermon. I really appreciate Michael Brown, and his input into Todd's life: he couldn't have a better mentor there.

Faith is trusting in God especially in bad situations. Heavenly Father thank you for encouraging me and giving me strength. Thank you for sending strangers to help me through my hard situation. Even as I continue to struggle to provide for my two autistic children I always remember to keep faith in God, since losing my job for declining the vaccine. Things have been very hard. I declined because I have pre existing health condition Lupus and heart disease. I was denied my medical/religious exemption by Forsyth Hospital. My husband passed away three years ago, so I’m all alone. No family nor friends. Every month I don’t know how we are going to make it. Every month is a struggle. But every month God provides. Thank you father for that. I’m so embarrassed of my situation. I’m so tired of struggling every month and being put down over my circumstances NO MATTER WHAT I have Faith that God will provide! He is faithful. He knows my heart! He will save me and my children from poverty. IN JESUS name. Please pray for me and my boys.

Such a great topic to be dealt with, as many Reformed theologians are quick to affirm that Jesus became a sinner, the greatest of all. This cannot be any further from the truth.
For instance Reformer Martin Luther said,

"If you deny that He is a condemned sinner, you are forced to deny that Christ died. It is not less preposterous to say, the Son of God died, than to say, the Son of God was a sinner.”
“But if it is not absurd to confess and believe that Christ was crucified between thieves, then it is not absurd to say as well that He was a curse, and of all sinners, the greatest.”
“Our most merciful Father…sent His only Son into the world, and laid upon Him all the sins of all men, saying, Be Thou Peter that denier; Paul that persecutor, blasphemer and cruel oppressor; David that adulterer; that sinner which did eat the apple in Paradise; that thief which hanged upon the cross; and briefly be Thou the person which hath committed the sins of all men; see therefore that Thou pay and satisfy for them.”
In other words, according to Martin Luther, Jesus became an adulterer, a blasphemer, a thief, and on and on, while hanging on the cross, and so He became all those sinners that He died for.
Calvinist R.C. Sproul said, "The Incarnate Christ who enjoyed intimate personal fellowship with the Father, such as no man had ever enjoyed, was suddenly and completely cut off. Once the sin of man was imputed to Him, He became the virtual incarnation of evil. The load He carried was repugnant to the Father. God is too holy to even look at iniquity. God the Father turned His back upon the Son, cursing Him to the pit of hell while on the cross. Here was the Son’s ‘descent into hell.’ Here the fury of God raged against Him. His scream was the scream of the damned. For us.”
The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 5:21 that He who knew no sin became [a] sin [offering] for us. It does not say that He who knew no sin became sinful or a sinner, for then He wouldn’t have been qualified to make an atonement.
    God bless.

In both 2Cor 5:21 and Rom 8:3 Paul uses a noun "sin" in an idiomatic sense. Its a Hebrew idiom. Christ was not "to be sin." He was made to be the sin offering! Critical distinction. Same thing in Rom 8:3. It should be translated "for our sin offering. Some versions make a note at the bottom of the page as in the ESV. And the NASB puts "as a sin offering" in italics. If Christ was made to be sin He would have been corrupted, and not be the unblemished lamb slain for the foundation of the world. What Christ took on from us was our punishment! That punishment was exacted in His flesh. "By His strips we are healed."

The theological logical sense is this: you can't die if you have not sinned. How is Christ to defeat death without having to face it? He took our sin, to die for us and to conquer the grave! Interesting enough, since it was our sin that caused the death of Jesus, death can't hold us because death already lost. This is why we need Jesus.

Todd, you ARE guilty. I am guilty, too. We all have sinned. The issue is - how pays the price for that sin to make it right? We cannot possibly pay restitution to GOD. We are guilty, we are not innocent. But we don't have to pay the spiritual price for the ways we have offended God by violating His commands. This misunderstanding of words is what causes Todd trouble - he uses terms like "guilt" incorrectly. Jesus' actions didn't take away our guilt. We cannot erase what we did in our past. He paid the price for us, thus reconciling us to God. Guilt isn't taken away. Justice demands payment. We are guilty, and Jesus paid the price for our guilt.
I hope Todd understands this difference. I don't think he appreciates how his words "invite" people to call him a false prophet. I think his heart is in the right place., and I think he conceptually understands that he is still guilty. He just doesn't reflect it properly in his words. And words matter, so not being able to articulate truth becomes a problem on many levels.

I'd like to insert this. Jesus was both god, and man. It was important that God took on the physical man, in which was the spirit of God. From Leviticus, when the priests layed their hands upon the sin offering, the sins of the person was transferred to the offering. When they slapped Jesus, yelling blasphemy, they laid the sin of mankind upon Jesus. Thinking we could be God was the sin of man. The fruits of sin are all the sinful acts we do. Jesus, when slapped, became the sin of the world, and was immediately separated from God, now just mere man, who did what no other man could ever do.. went to the cross and suffered ashedidin total obedience tothewill of the father, not asgod, but as man, the second Adam. But without the spirit of God powering him, he endured to the end. This is what made it so astounding. He endured as in our sinful nature, and still obeued to the end, and becauseherid, now wewhocometohim, can walk from death, which we are in sin, to the newnessoflife that is eternal. From eternal death to eternal life. What a trade off that was for us, andforthat, I will praise his name forevermore.

I do think that the cross, ultimately, shows us both the love of God and the severity of sin, all at once...
these are just my thoughts on the Atonement, coming from an ancient Orthodox perspective: not denying the "punishment" aspect of the Cross (in context) ... but seeing the Satisfaction of Justice as being, primarily, the redemptive work of the Son in reordering, re-righting and recreating all things in Himself (and manifesting his holiness and reality in Christ), rather than the Father venting/pouring wrath upon the Son.
"For it please the Lord to bruise him"
"And He hath laid upon Him, the iniquity of us all"
"For the joy before him, he endured the cross, scorning its shame"
Is God punishing God on the cross?
Well, No. God is triune and does all things in a triadic way... "that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself" (2 Cor 5)... He (the Son) "offered Himself through the eternal Spirit unblemished to God (the Father) (Heb 9)
Is God punishing a human person on the cross?
Well, No, we are not (or shouldn't be) 'Nestorian'. Christ (the God-man) had a human nature, thus was a real man, but not a human 'person' (Hypostasis). The sole 'subject' in Messiah, was that of God the Word.
God cannot become sin (literally) because sin, for one, is an abstraction; it is a privation of the good; a negation of the good. Sin is things that people think, say or do (you cannot become other people's thoughts, words and deeds) and that break God's holy Law (God is love), and that are not in harmony with His Reality (I am the Way the Truth and the Life) - Righteousness denotes: His harmony, balance, reality, order. Plus God cannot 'literally' become sin because "God is light in whom there is no darkness at all" (1 John)... that would be blasphemy.
"God made Him who knew no sin, to be sin for us, that in Him we might be the righteousness of God" ???
Or is God - as man, 'figuratively' becoming sin (2 Cor 5), (a "sin offering") (Rom 8) and entering into the place of condemnation, separation, shame and punishment, as He Who, according to His divinity, cannot die, "tastes death" (Heb 2), "to destroy the devil and free those who all their lives were held in bondage to their fear of death'.... in order to clear every obstacle and defeat every enemy and do what only God as man can do, i.e, reconcile us with Himself in order that - in Him - the Ark of Salvation - we may escape the very real Wrath that is to come on the day of judgement?
    Yes indeed!
He drank the cup of suffering because He took on our ancient wound of mortality; and because we suffer; He suffered as He wept for Lazarus; and because the wages of sin is death, He experienced God forsakeness and entered into death as the Victor!
We must remember that all the animal sacrifices were themselves figurative and iconographic - a constant reminder and sign to the Old covenant people - pointing to the costliness of Sin, and the loss of innocence, and that love is sacrificial, and that God is the giver of life: the life that is "in the blood"... and to their fulfillment in the future! They were mainly meals to be eaten as well, after being offered to God; but when Christ the Lamb comes, (Who's life, death, burial and resurrection we now eat and drink of - Who gave his divine life for the temporal corrupted life of His lost creatures) - His death is also highly 'iconographic', but also affects a real 'ontological' change in the Universe, and He actually reconciles us to Himself by becoming one of us and uniting universal Human Nature with His own.
In the same way that our temporary punishment in Eden was the separation of our soul and body, so Christ's human soul and body were also separated when He died, but all in constant Union with the Person of the Logos... and so "the punishment that bought us peace was upon Him", for he entered into death in order to destroy it. He planned / predetermined to let the demonic and humanity do their worst to Him in order to rid the enemy of any rights (via His unjust death), for he (the devil) had no power, no hold on Him), and that sin "might become utterly sinful" (Rom 6), and that our "flesh" might be cut off as He was in His Body on the tree "outside the city".
    Humble God
"Because He humbled Himself - even to the death of the cross"
    Amazing Love!
There is one 'Person' in our Lord Jesus Christ, and that is the Person the Eternal Son and Word of God Who 'took on' our humanity: God assuming a very real human body and soul in order to identify with us, out of love (Rom 5/John 3), and pity (Psalm 103), "and He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied". He, as the great High Priest "made intercession for the transgressors" 'as if' He was a transgressor.... Who "was in every way like us, yet without sin".... and in order to show/manifest righteousness (Rom 3), and provide the a Way for us to be in His 'rightness'.
He fulfilled the Law, disarmed the enemy, raised our humanity up within Himself, that we - by grace - through faith - might partake of the Divine Nature (according to grace not essence).
He Who is Life, defeated death by His Death.
He defeated all darkness by His Lght.
He reversed all unrighteousness by His Righteousness!
The God Man chose the death of the cross... The God Man chose the worst of deaths in order to express the lengths and depths of His love and mercy: "But God demonstrates His love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us"... a Pagan execution method, with the cooperation of the Jews, in an occupied country that would involve Him stretching out His arms as He "draws all people" to Himself.
The God-man layed down His own life...
The God Man took it up again!
    Oh Glory Hallelujah !!!

Todd, I happened to see what you said in a video that another pastor had made to critique you. However, at the time I wasn’t offended by what you had said at all. I understood the way you meant it, I thought it was an original way to explain the Gospel, and I thought that the critic pastor was splitting hairs and engaging in unwarranted friendly fire. BTW I’m not even one of your fans. More pastor should preach the Gospel without watering it down.

I wouldnt say he "symbolically" (as in, not really) became a curse or sin.. I like that Mr. Brown used the word "mystically", that is better. But I still think it means He literally became sin (because it SAYS so. He can still be guilt-free: he never sinned himself, yet CHOSE to take our place out of LOVE).
I argue this also because Christ LITERALLY bore the wrath of God, not "symbolically" (btw his physical death was not special--many people were crucified--the intense thing was that all of God's wrath was poured out on him, literally, not symbolically, because he WAS MADE TO BE SIN, and this IN OUR STEAD. It would make no sense for God to pour out his wrath on holiness (!). Indeed, a complete switch was made on the cross: you in all your sinfulness and darkness died, rising to new life in God and for God, by the power of the Holy Spirit (->repent, have faith in Christ, get baptised, receive Holy Spirit)
May we be blessed by him today and forever and receive meekly with thanksgiving the free gift of eternal, abundant life, amen.
