I was thinking it was either alternator or starter since I bought new battery 6 months ago. Well I went to go check negative terminal and it was little lose with a tight pull. I tightened and Boom! No more radio coming on and off and after a day check engine light came off. I was about to change alternator and starter but thank goodness I saw this short and did the basics first!!!
Years & years ago i had a ford ranger that would shut down when i hit a bump in the road, then would come back alive and keep gong. Took it to a local mechanic, took it to the dealership 3 or 4 times, always got charged for an hour of labor just to tell me they couldn't find anything wrong. Finally dealership found my neg battery cable was broke inside the insulation, both ends looked ok but a small hole let water inside and the wire was rotting from the inside out. $20 part that cost me several hundred dollars to diagnose.
Thanks , Scotty ! Car doesn't one time and it's the biggest piece of junk you could ever buy . Some times it something as simple as you just pointed out . Thanks again for the tips and how too videos .

Here's one that you might not have seen before. My grandparents once had a random shut-down in their car, turns out it was a $2 fuse... What was happening is the fuse itself had started to separate from itself and as they were driving the flow of energy would create just enough heat for the 2 sides of the fuse wire to move apart breaking the circuit, but once the car shuts down it would cool to the point where the circuit would complete again. My granddad never did say how much he spent on parts cannon before finding out it was the fuse

When your 30-year-old car shuts off after running for 10 to 15 minutes, and your fuel pump relays keep blowing, and you get no check engine light, and the car will start up again after it cools down. I went through this nonsense for three weeks, and finally, after reading online about this symptom on the exact same car, found out that it was the second crankshaft position sensor on the firewall side of the engine, down along the oil pan. This Sensor was the original, 30 years old, and upon replacing it and the pigtail connector, the issue disappeared, but not before replacing the fuel pump, the sending unit, the fuel pressure regulator on the fuel rail, and the fuel filter, to learn that it was the second crankshaft position sensor.
My car kept dying on me. An established mechanic said it was the camshaft sensor, then the crankshaft sensor. Then O'Reilly Auto Parts diagnosed it as an O2 sensor. Finally I did a sparkplug and oil change, and that got rid of my issues. So if it's been a while since you did a tune up and it's acting funny, try that before changing out a bunch of sensors.
So if check engine light is off and it stalls turns off at acceleration around 40 mph it's the fuel pump? I often keep my fuel pump full. Does over filling sometimes cause this? I have a 2012 Hyundai sonata GLS
My car did this while I was stopped behind a car in front of me trying to make a left turn. I put it in park, turned off my car, and then turned my car back on and everything was normal on the drive home. Is it still safe to drive?
My alternator actually went out and was having this exact issue. It was the volt tester inside the alternator and was sapping all the power from my battery and just vanished.
My 2016 hyundai accent is doing this right now, the battery terminals can be moved by hand, but there as tight as can be what do I do about that, and If I start car, it dyes if I give it gas
Wow, weird how things happen sometimes. Literally this morning my truck shut off on me going down the highway. Scary time to find out the terminals are worn out lol.

I've had a problem where I would turn the key on and would get no power. Not even the radio clock display would come on. Dead battery right? Well then I would turn the key off and turn it back on and everything would be normal. Started right up.? 6 months later when this happened again turning the key multiple times did not help. I left the key on and tried jumping it. I connected the jumper cable to the +terminal and then I heard my radio come on. Started right up. ?? This was with just one out of 4 of the jumper cable clamp connected. 6 months later when this happened again, I just tapped on the +terminal with the end of a screwdriver and that made it work. ? I'm talking a light tap. Btw the battery was replaced one winter inbetween these events, and the terminals look solid.
Also when you wiggle the wire check the other end… example the hot wire goes to the starter motor check the connection at the starter motor… it comes loose sometime or corrodes open .. i’ve seen it many times on Chevys …
twice in the past year my camry has continually shut off seconds after starting, it seemed to come right after leaving it a minute both times. 2007, 160K New plugs no Codes or warning lights. What could it be?
I had an alternator fail intermittently. Toyota and an independent mechanic said nothing was wrong. I said just replace the damn thing. Now everything is fine.
How about if the the battery is already tighten what could be the problem it happens to me two time. I took it to the mechanic and he said two cylinder of the motor are broken is that true?
I had a 60 Olds that did that because a wire was loose on the firewall and I never had a pair of plyers to fix it for good so I just put it back and would stay running so I never thought of it when I was home to fix it.
Terminals tight and clean ✅ Battery , starter and alternator passed autozone test ✅ Replaced fuel pump ✅ Replaced high pressure fuel pump ✅ Replaced Egr valve ✅ Replaced spark plugs ✅ Replaced Pcv valve ✅ 17 expedition with 3.5 eco boost 88k miles Still dies randomly to this day. (Has been overnighted three times with two different mechanics shop. Mechanics tell me it’s electrical ) If anything can save me from this nightmare it’s going to be Jesus , or TH-cam mechanics
My car dies and doesn’t want to start but it will jump… I pulled out the alternator and got it tested they said it was good… I replace my battery.. I have no check engine lights on or battery lights on… I don’t know or think it’s the fuel pump because my radio and dash are acting strange so I feel like it’s an electrical problem.. But when it does die it’s because the RPMs drop to zero
My 98 civic had a issue where it would just shut off, when it wouldnt start it had no spark at the plugs. I allready had a new altrnator and battery so i tried the distributor but nope even that didnt fix the issue.
i was doing 70 mph on the interstate in Nashville, in the middle lane when my car suddenly died off. it was scary, no power, no power steering, no lights doing 70 mph. was able to pull off on side shoulder without hitting anybody, turns out the alternator went out and weren't charging my battery. scary stuff.
A way anyone can test an alternator is start the car then remove negative battery terminal if ithe vehicle dies you have a junk alternator. If vehicle still runs, slowly depress the accelerator if it dies before you get to 5000 RPM the alternator is weak.

Dear Mr. Kilmer,
Don't expect a Christmas gift from the Big Car Union of Mechanics.
I had a 60 Olds that did that because a wire was loose on the firewall and I never had a pair of plyers to fix it for good so I just put it back and would stay running so I never thought of it when I was home to fix it.

Still dies randomly to this day. (Has been overnighted three times with two different mechanics shop. Mechanics tell me it’s electrical )
If anything can save me from this nightmare it’s going to be Jesus , or TH-cam mechanics
Also no engine light 💡
@@evandurigan2919going through the same issue any luck did you fix it??
TPS or idle control valve ?… have the same problem but I see you don’t have that on your list yet 🤷🏾♀️
Scotty Kilmer reduces the suffering of Americans , and reduces their monetary expenditures .
I vote for Scotty Kilmer !
What about the jeep, dodge issue where they die while driving?
Usually it's the alternator
Just swear and smack it, then turn the key again. Works every time.
No it doesn't
I can truthfully say your information is better than CNN
My uncle got exact same van for his work, it has same exact problem
My car dies and doesn’t want to start but it will jump… I pulled out the alternator and got it tested they said it was good… I replace my battery.. I have no check engine lights on or battery lights on… I don’t know or think it’s the fuel pump because my radio and dash are acting strange so I feel like it’s an electrical problem.. But when it does die it’s because the RPMs drop to zero
Check Ecu fuse or ignition switch both are easy to install
