With the cost of ammo and the canadian laws {no backyard plinking in my area anyway} I think this is a better option for me ! A nice rifle for not too much money Enjoyed it buddy
nice. little Rossi 22R was a pretty good little budget unit too. at tobacco shop today we got chatting wondering why some of these .22's aren't being chambered for .22 mag rounds, where the powder could actually do something more with some barrel length. doing it to a single shot bolt action would be the simplest, if the bolt throws back enough to load.
@@ohshoot444 yup, casings baled LEFT would be nicer for left handed, right handed firearm can throw casings right at your face, isn't nice. was half thinking last night about a little tin shroud deflector that'd throw them downward, pads spring clipping in between scope and receiver. kinda a < shape with small C facing up and down, bottom with a \ extension or half C to change the eject path.. the left handed part wasn't even a thought, just someone next to ya getting the hot brass chucked at them.
I want one as an Iowa bunny hunter where that and cold weather align. The idea of a flush mag and bolt to assure proper operation is desirable. However, I've seen a few videos where accuracy isn't too good. In one case with a scope, he got 4 MOA at 50 yards.. I'll stick with my pump but it has a tube mag.
The Ruger American Rimfire looks like a nice, little, handy rifle to have. I can't bring myself to get one to replace my 1952 Marlin 80DL, aperture sights, 22 LR, bolt action rifle. My eyes and I are getting older so I may have to scope her.
Still love my Remington 512 the most. Can sit and ping a 3 inch plate all day at 100 yards with that gun and iron sights. Not bad for a 70 year old gun.
@@ohshoot444 My really strange old .22 is a Winchester Model 55-22. (Not to be confused with the Model 55 lever action) If you've never heard of it, it can be described as a .22 semiauto, open bolt, bottom ejecting, single shot rifle. Managed to find one in near mint condition at a really good price. You should look them up.
my understanding the difference between the standard and the compact is just the interchangeable stock module you can swap out. The compact seem more expensive though.
Great video review. I am looking to buy the same rifle for my granddaughter as her first "real" rifle. I like that the butt plates are interchangeable so as she grows, we can extend the length of pull, if she needs to. So far she has only been shooting pellet and BB guns.
Im digging the fact that you seem very comfortable shooting this in a left handed/eye position. I'd really like to pick up one of these, but the lack of leftie options from Ruger in the American Rimfire series gives me some pause. How do you like shooting this without the bench mount??
I've gotten used to shooting bolt guns leftie. That being said I wish it were easier in the woods. Its faster from a rested position. But its difficult offhand. How compact this rifle is makes it much easier though.
That was very good shooting and follow-through. What I keep seeing is shooters raising their heads to work the bolt, poor or bad shooting. Accuracy suffers! A habit hard to break!
For sure. The accuracy out of a Rossi is great. But, it would only be a little more to get one of these used. I can’t say that I know of anything cheaper. What do you think?
@@ohshoot444 Yeah, you are probably right, with inflation and .22 LR ammo going for .20c a round. I can reload CF rifle with cast round balls cheaper. I'm old, and paid $10 for a nice Remington single shot bolt rifle, and $35 for Marlin 25. Just saying, budget means something different to oldsters...
Hi Travis, really a great price, good shots , your shooting lane a paradise, what a quiet and fantastic location. Have a nice weekend. cheers
Love my little Ruger handy little piece had mine 4 years probably 4000 plus rounds through it . Be well.
Good shooting. Always fun to see you shooting having a good time

looked around there's a few available, but they're kinda proud of em.
I just wish they made some more lefty options in Rimfire.

Look for some.CCI Clean ammo. That be something to see how coated 22 will do in a bolt. Get some Elmers Glue Stick to attach them stickers to the box.

Is that a bolt gun? Ive always wanted one of the target guns from Remington in the 50s. Just never had the money when I found one.
@@ohshoot444 Yeah, bolt gun, tube magazine, 25 inch barrel. Found it at Cabela's for like $220.
I’ve got an old 550-1 that needs repair. From the same era. But, auto.

It's almost perfect as a first rifle.

@Wildcat Creek Survival I hear ya. I wish those marlins were that price now.
