But the fact is that Ian Botham was a highly overrated All rounder and Vivian Richards would have hammered him had he not been declared out due to a wrong decision
Richards was given out quite a few times when he was not out especially LBW. That was an easy way for umpires because DRS was not available then. Once he was given out in India when he was a long way down the pitch batting brilliantly on 67. He had then broken furniture in the dressing room as far as I know.
Some had their careers cut short by one blow to the head. The odd player has died and also an umpire. It’s not brave it’s Russian Roulette with your brain casing.
Kabhi pitch pe khada b hua h??? Ball at 135kmph and batter with quick leg movement, I think here the umpire should have benefit of doubt. It's not a blunder, you have slow mo, they don't. It's umpires call.
@@pavangundu4356 The boundaries definitely seem shorter; the ropes seem to come in several metres from the fence at most Test grounds. Mind you, in the old days the players couldn’t dive around like they do now to save a boundary, because they often risked a serious injury. In fact some of those advertising boards on some grounds were metal; on some videos you can tell by the sound that they used to make when a fiercely driven or cut ball slammed into them.
Stevie wonder was the umpire that day… Never out missing leg comfortably. Such a great rivalry between two of the very finest players to ever play cricket. It’s why we love the sport because of icons like these two
Umpy was a Cowboy Gunslinger in a Former life , yeah as a Aussie I used to cop it from me mates picking a Pom as me favourite All Rounder , but it's the Aura of Keith Miller that Captivates Every Cricket Connoisseur more loved by the Public than Bradman both in Australia & England they still talk of Miller today , check ESPN Legends of Cricket Keith Miller can see Why , cheers from South Oz
Shows everything great about these two. Viv , courageous and able to take advantage of good deliveries and Both with his flair as a bowler showcasing 3 different deliveries even if the inswinger was missing leg,it was a beauty.
The disgusting level of umpiring back then! If DRS was available, Richards would have been twice as great as he is! I’m only saying twice because he is already the greatest!
The umpire said he realised as soon as he saw Botham stopping his appeal he made a mistake and it was too late to call Richards back. He’s human - he admitted it, stop implying he was not umpiring impartially.
I feel sorry for the umpires from back then. Most of them spent almost their whole time giving batsmen not out when they could have gone the other way, but now the internet thinks they were all trigger happy as highlights reels only show the wickets.
You missed telling the truth. The lbw was touch and go could be considered out as well. It was a great sequence of play which Botham won. First ball short ball next ball a short of length out swing and the 3rd ball was a brilliant in swinger from almost the same spot. What a plan and the skill to execute.
I yet recall this match for Ian took 8 wickets in this inning n at last westendies won the match with brilliant batting of garden greeneej. He ,scored double century.
Now ICC shld bring a new rule where any player can check any or all of their dismissals n if the recent technology shows them not out or a wicket if they were a bowler, then this must be retained n not old statistics....😂🙏🏼🧿🤞🏼!
Every club needs an umpire like that. Opposition's best batsmen gets caught early on the pads, 50/50 lbw given straight away, doesn't give anything else all day. Job done. 😂 Umpire gets free beer that evening in the bar!!
I feel test cricket is the one format where heavier bats are actually making batting more difficult. You can't flash a heavy bat that quick for a square cut and edges are more prevalent.
Honestly I wish there was reviews and the technology back then... would be amazing to see if averages were different by a bit or a lot... Javed Miandad never given out LBW in Pakistan springs to mind
I couldn't imagine the number of wrong decisions in cricket history before DRS. Let's get back in time using time machine along with DRS and then play Cricket.
Ian Botham and Viv Richards were great friends off the field but it was a great battle between them.
Yes. Right
But the fact is that Ian Botham was a highly overrated All rounder and Vivian Richards would have hammered him had he not been declared out due to a wrong decision

Wearing no helmet makes you a better player and you learn to watch the ball properly
Umpire was ready for raising the finger
He is Reincarnation of a Gunslinger in Cowboy Times
Playing fast balling with out helmet, those days players are fearless 👏👏
These guys still wore Pads and gloves, look for earlier days
Some had their careers cut short by one blow to the head. The odd player has died and also an umpire. It’s not brave it’s Russian Roulette with your brain casing.
They may have fear...but handle it 😊
They didn't think to use helmets until Kerry Packer's World Series Cricket and even then they got literal crash helmets with a visor and no grill
Richards was a fearless batsman. Bowler has the fear to bowl him.But Richards had fear to face our BS Chandrasekhar.
Umpire looked so eager to give it that he hardly waited for the appeal and funny enough it was going to miss another set of stumps 😂
I agree. @@oleggorky906

That square cut by Richards🔥🔥
It was outside off stump, up for grabs. He was magical in difficult shots. My point is that was an easy one for him.

The west indies had to put up with that in Australia as well. , the the empires in the west indies thought they were English
Best part is Vivian accepted the decision of umpire without blinking
Such a player so full of humilty
Those were genuine fun times! 😍
I wonder how many more runs Sir Viv Richards would have scored if there was DRS in his time !!
