I appreciate the breakdown on what a "regular reseller" and a "TH-cam reseller" can pick up. I have to be careful with hats because they can sit for a while and GW charges $4 for them here. I also feel like hats are a good cheap way for ppl to support their favorite TH-camrs without breaking the bank. (Or paying $1000 for a SYF shirt on whatnot 😁)

I so appreciate that you openly talked about not just buying something to resell bc a TH-camr did. We also often see what they buy, not as much of what actually sells and what it sells for, how long it took…

This was entertaining, and I appreciate the honesty. A lot of us already know the reality, but many reselling content creators hide the reality. Reselling isn't rocket science and we're all humans.

I love this video, I myself have narrowed down the products I buy and sell being a small time flipper. Now I mainly just hit my goodwill outlet(bins) where it is $1.49 a pound and 5 for .99 For Books/DVD's. So dvd's(nip) only cost me .20 each and hats average .25 each. The returns are amazing, Usually 40 times my investment.

I hope most people realize that TH-cam resellers with a large following have a built in audience of buyers. it was obvious to me but I’m glad YOU pointed it out. Sometimes I laugh at the prices people pay to a TH-cam seller, when there are 10 of the same item selling at 50% less. It’s nice to support but it I can be a bit ridiculous. To each his own! I’m really enjoying your channel! Love Mose and the office too!!

I've made so much pocket cash from selling locally on fb marketplace and some things that just don't sell are clothes. The weirdest things that I sell often (surprisingly) are like Keurigs, small furniture pieces, tower fans/heaters, and plants. So yes, find what works for your area.

Great advice. You constantly find great golf clubs at your local resale shops. Every club I find in my area is absolute beat up trash from the 1980's. I don't even consider looking them up. Sell what you know about, and what you have access to.

Y'all are just too awesome! I was just talking to my wife about this recently - how I've noticed multiple creators throwing out some pretty wild 'what I can get for this' numbers when out sourcing. Items that I, a common pleb seller with no followers, would have a hard time selling at all. I really really appreciate that you two took the time to break it down, have the awareness to recognize how having a following can make selling some things a bit easier AND THEN showing how grateful you are for your followers every chance you get. You two truly deserve all of the success that you have achieved and loads more. Hairy Tornado to the MOoOoOoN!

Perfect breakdown. Many people think resellers just buy and sell when in reality, there is A LOT more work into this. I’ve been doing this for awhile and I can vouch for Josh. Not everything we pick up could bring value, but some are just throw ins for a good bundle deal! Great video!!

Man you make a great point in figuring out your own flavor on what you can sell based on what avenues you have to offer them. Getting good at that will definitely help the bottom line. I also experienced a few "duds" after purchasing shoes and clothes. Sucks but you learn so much. Thanks for the awesome content and keeping us engaged :-)

  • @ksmolinski

What I think is so interesting about your channel is the focus on clothes and golf clubs. Every reseller seems to have a niche where they are quite knowledgeable about a certain product. You don't need to look up every golf club because you know what is new and what sells. Some resellers from storage units donate 95% of clothes. They focus on other items. Great to watch your perspective on reselling. Thanks.

  • @livingpicker
    @livingpicker 2 ปีที่แล้ว +16

When you're paying up for something, you have to know the market and know your ability to sell them. As someone who is getting started in reselling I don't pay up for most items, however there are some items I do pay up for because I know what I have sold them for in the past. Most higher end Prince Tennis Racquets I'll pay up a little bit on them because I know what they sell for and they are quick sale (I've sold 8 of them and they normally well within a week of listing them). But everyone should do their own research before paying up for an item.

TH-cam resellers make money by making videos as well. It is work the recording, editing, uploading plus reselling. I do feel some TH-cam resellers are not very transparent how much fees and cost there is when it comes to reselling.

The proactive is still usable even if expired. I have been using proactive since 1999. I had an auto refill subscription so i received mine every 6 months. This was the absolute BEST acne face soap i ever tried. Proactive told me the expiration date didn't matter as long as the color hasn't changed or it didn't have a bad odor. I have probably 20 bottles of this stuff still and most of them are expired. Some from 2017. I am still using it. I finally had to end my subscription cuz I had so many bottles. Maybe you guys can use it for personal use. I don't know if either of you have acne problems but it's still a good product. The soap (facial cleanser) has an exfolient in it. The green bottle is like toner you put on with a cotton ball after washing your face. I think if anyone uses this stuff they would buy it from you cuz this stuff cost me $55 for 3 bottles of it when I had my subscription for it.

Thank you for clarifying this. A lot of youtubers don't let this fact be known and some people who follow you and what you do could really get in trouble and not realize why. I remember people complaining about this with Crazy Lamp Lady. People would watch her, go out and buy what she buys and try to sell it. Some of the stuff she used to buy wouldn't sell for the average person. It sold for her because she had a following. Of course now she's big time because she's grown her business. TH-camrs are in a different playing field so to speak.

  • @kathleensuhy1875

That Squishmallow pig unicorn I probably would have stayed away from. I think you’re gonna be unpleasantly surprised how little that one is worth. It’s not very popular with not a lot sold. Even the larger ones there are some sales that are only $5. Those mix up unicorns with another animal just are not as popular or sought after. With Squishmallows a lot of people think it’s got to be good no matter what or at least $20 or $25. Squishmallows are still big but that craziness that happened about a year ago when all these resellers started poring in to buy them has started to slow down a little. I tend to stick with ones that are just one type of animal and don’t have any other additional add-ons like pom-poms or sparklies or whatever else on them. That’s something y’all will probably do the best by auctioning it on What Not. People on What Not tend to not think logically during those auctions. Items sell for three times more sometimes even five or six times more than they should. I just don’t get that but it makes it good for whoever is the seller.
Of course I think the same thing about people going on Amazon and buying items. You see how much these people are paying on Amazon and they could’ve looked online or even gone to some of their local stores and got it for half the price they paid for it on Amazon. I believe people still think that if it’s on Amazon it’s the best price. That’s so far from the truth now.
I collect Funko pops and I do resell some of them to pay for my Funko pop addiction. Looking on Amazon at the prices people are paying for some of these pops really makes my head hurt. They are paying $20 up to $50 more for a pop they could get in their local area at retail. I guess people are just too lazy to either look online and other places or go to their stores. I really don’t understand; maybe somebody will explain it to me. Even if they don’t have local stores that have them there are other stores online that have it at retail or pretty close to retail.
Thank you for explaining about items and what people shouldn’t pay up for especially if you’re are not someone who has a large following or a store that has not been around for a good amount of time. It is so aggravating to me when you’ve got resellers making videos on TH-cam, good entertaining videos, and just bragging about look at all the money I made today and I’ve got all these dinners and I’m filling up carts and I’m rolling in money. The truth is they have not made anything yet. They found these items and are hoping they will sell at a certain price. If everything goes great then yes they’ll make that money they said but as everything in life goes, most things don’t work the exact way you thought it would. Some of these people are even sellers on Amazon so all kinds of things can happen there. The thing is you never see them coming back a month or two later and showing you what they really made on those items. They will never tell you that there was a massive influx of sellers, all the sudden, of this item and they had to drop their price to where they just broke even. They’ll never tell you when Amazon ended up shipping items back to them because it was sitting too long in Amazon’s warehouse. They’ll never show you that they really made $500 in profit off the items they said they made $3000 profit off of after everything was said and done and finally sold.
I say all that just to say I really appreciate that y’all are starting to roll back the curtain and show more of the inner workings and what really happens. It’s sad when you are on a resale group page and people are reaching out for help. They are reaching out because they went and bought all this inventory because that’s what they saw and what they were told to purchase on a TH-cam video. Now it’s not selling well or very slow or the price has really dropped due to so many people selling the same item. They really need to sell these and get some money because they have bills and a family. They kept seeing time and time again that you just get this and you turn around and you’ve made $2000 or $3000 in a day; who wouldn’t want to do that? Can things happen that quick and you just stumble upon the right thing, of course. That does happen but that’s not the norm. It’s nice to see people like yourself and even Commonwealth Picker who are starting to show the entire reality of reselling. It’s also great that you’re out front with the fact that since you have a very nice following on TH-cam and social media platforms that it definitely gives you a leg up on selling items and even selling items for a little bit more than normal. Y’all are upfront and honest about that and that’s refreshing.

I have come to this realization recently. I watch a lot of TH-cam resellers. I buy low dollar stuff for the most part and resell. I’ve been keeping careful track of my spending and income over the last couple months. January I pretty much broke even including mileage. February I broke even but am in the negative when I consider mileage. I have been trying to be more selective in what I buy to flip and have a ton of stuff still to list to keep the eBay algorithm happy. Thanks for being honest and keep up the videos. I really enjoy them.

I realized a few months ago that resellers like Crazy Lamp Lady and Hairy Tornado, etc. have THOUSANDS of followers. And some have other avenues for reselling. Crazy Lamp Lady has a brick and mortar store. After trying and failing on many items I tried to copy, I have found a niche. It’s stuff the Goodwill pricers and shoppers overlook. Sorry, cannot divulge. There are definitely items that people will buy on EBay that aren’t even mentioned on youtube resellers videos. Everyone is looking for a deal, so I have a standard of how much I will pay for items. If it’s over my threshold, it goes back on the shelf.

I definitely appreciate you sharing this in the TH-cam community. Bc the reality is someone like me for instance, not a huge channel at all, I don’t have that TH-cam funding coming in to help supplement what I would spend on my eBay store. Bigger channels definitely do so this is why they can drop thousands on auctions or whatever. While the rest of us are solely building our business off what we make from our flips alone. This isn’t to say one day I won’t have that extra you tube money coming in one day but for now I have to be picky on what I buy and flip and that’s ok. Plus not everyone is a you tube picker. So it’s great for them to know what to look out for when trying to build their business and make that money. Love you guys! Great work as always.

I respect your channel over others for the reason you honestly state "...could probably get $X" or "...might be worth...". I wholly agree that not everyone can sell everything. I have had an Etsy store for over 15 years and some of the stuff that I pick up would never sell on Ebay or Amazon. I can usually go to an estate sale on the last day and pick up the oddest items for dirt cheap and do well with them because the people shopping on Etsy are looking at things with different eyes than someone on Ebay. You've got to know your audience.

I started a 3rd Ebay store just for hats. Sell 80% or so new. I've had some for almost 2 years. Every year, I inventory and cull some. But can be a long tail item. Have been thinking of starting another store for shoes.

Have you tried the Google Lens app? I use it to take pics of shoes or other items. It will identify the item and show you what it is selling for on eBay, poshmark, etc. This has been a game-changer for me. Saves me so much time in trying to figure out what pair of Jordans I am looking at lol.

Awesome video. All of your points make a lot of sense. I have sold a lot more electronics than anything else so far but am trying to keep my store diverse. Got something coming your way that finding in Fresno, CA. was just ironic since I watch you guys and then found this. Thanks again, Smitty.

Thanks for telling the truth always. That’s right, you have more that follows on any platform you have because of your followers. Definitely it’s hard to compete with reseller if their goods costs only a dollar. There’s a reseller I follow that her goods cost only a dollar to 2 dollars the most. She can sell it less than $20 at anytime. All buyers thinks all reseller also got stuff for a dollar or at the bins. I don’t go to the bins because I have to drive far and scary because there are reseller there that are territorial. All thrift stores are not created equal or don’t have the same pricing dependent where you live in the country.

You might be able to put an iron-on mending patch on the back of the hole on that sweatshirt, then disclose it. I would do it before it get washed and the hole comes open. Or sell on WhatNot, or maybe put your logo on it! Love your sharing and negotiations! And both of you of course. You have grown so much the past year!!

Proactive will sell really well even if it is outdated. People who use it search it out. I have sold a lot of it locally and then some that was in date on Poshmark. It is a fast flip. I think most people understand watching anyone on TH-cam that they have a bigger audience to sell to.

Hi Josh. At the shoe table noticed some yellow Jordan 6s. If those are the dynamic yellows depending on the size those have eBay sold comps of over $100. Just in case they are still there the next time you go.

Thank you Josh and Heyley for this video. It's true that an established you tuber can sell the same item I'm selling, and sell it for more than I'm asking! You pay for shoes what I hope to sell them for. Today, what was I thinking, I bought a Ping golf club, it was only a dollar but I have no idea what I bought! Same with the Easton bat I bought. I picked up some A's hats and jerseys. The Chavez #3 I bought has a sold comp for $49.99. But you're right, I had no business buying these items but I'm only into it for $11:00!

That’s what I’m working on right now!, figuring out what’s the best resource in my area to tap into. Also our thrifting and garage sailings here is some of the roughest I’ve ever experienced. Some of that is how the micro hyper local economy works. 👀🤷🏻‍♀️📝

So glad you said that part about the TH-cam channel helping sales. I'm a little bit more of a Tim Osborn style seller and shopper. But that's the truth you try to pick up what he picks up and stuff sits for quite a while. His items sell very fast and for much more than I can ever get. I was starting to get frustrated with you guys when I watch your older what sold videos... felt like half your stuff was being sold to viewers. Glad you mentioned it, I'm better now. Thanks.

Nice video! So in regards for flipping and this new $600 third party rule; how do u show proof of purchase in goods u buy with cash? Since ebay would only send the IRS the total sale price of your items.

I can't remember a time when Carhartt was NOT popular, so I usually try to grab anything I find with the brand, as long as it's not trashed. I think it will consistently sell well.
