Love my prime’s, got 3 of them and they have grown some monster acro colony’s and some amazing clams. Seriously I have to trim corals every 2 weeks on the regular. Never any app issues they just always work
Really? they were on my desk and I hardly noticed anything, I think because I have a skimmer, that was about all I can hear. I took them home with me and again, never noticed a thing from them anyways. Can't be more happier with them.
you guys are all talking about the older prime version with wifi - that one was/is super quiet. The new version (with Bluetooth) is a hell of a noise producer.....you will not be happy having this lamp 1 or 2 rooms away from you living room
I not so confidently bought 2 of these for my 35 inch long waterbox 50.3 Peninsula, to my surprise they have been able to light the tank sufficiently with enough par levels to grow coral, obviously not SPS coral but my tank is mostly going to be a LPS/Soft coral dominant tank, so these lights were PERFECT. It was either this or one XR30 G5 Blue/Pro but they were too expensive for me and these came in perfectly.
@@BRStv Oh yeah 100%, these things are insanely powerful for their size, but in the future if I ever decide to get some more demanding coral ill go ecotech, just because I'll have the budget and your guys videos sold me on them lmao
love the AI line, have been a proud customer for close to 7 years, they are the best for its price range, probably better than do higher end ones if theres enough fixtures
I use 2xfull spectrum LED 15W e27 bulb + 2xblue led 15W e27 bulb on my 1G Pico. I love this setup because it has redundancy built in...I use cheap wifi controlled 110V sockets to control the light schedule. The e27 bulbs are around $12 for the full spectrum and $15 for the blue. If one bulb dies, there are 3 others still providing sufficient light for coral growth. I think it's the most inexpensive yet effective setup for anyone setting up a tiny reef...my entire pico reef setup isn't worth more than a single one of these "affordable" lights...and I have redundant heating, flow, and lighting. Oh...also forgot...one other benefit is the lack of spotlighting effect you get with 4 e27 bulbs vs a single LED fixture...I can spotlight 4 specific areas at once, or overlap the coverage for a more uniform lighting aesthetic. I can eliminate shadows by simply adjusting one of the bulbs direction vs cutting back or moving corals around as they grown in. I also have ordered a couple more of the cheap wifi 110v sockets to make an inexpensive wave maker substitute. Just using them to put my two pumps installed on opposing sides of the tank onto a schedule that cycle the pumps to simulate what the expensive wavemakers do. My pumps and wifi sockets only cost me around $30 total.
I got one of these over my Fluval 13. I was pleasantly surprised when I set up to find out that it blends colors well and doesn't have the crazy disco effect.
@@DarthMalicius I no longer have a tank setup. I will say the AI 16Hd was a great light on that tank. I had it for about a year and everything did well. I ended up going to a slightly larger tank. fought dinos and gave up and shut it all down
I just got an innovative marine 20gal Nuvo fusion, would this be a good light for that, and are there any pre sets meant for that tank already since it’s so popular as well?
Yes, it will absolutely work for your 20gal. I have a nano peninsula 25gal Waterbox and the spread is so even around the tank. I almost got the Kessil 360X but this little powerhouse does the job just fine. For light settings, just follow BRS recommended settings, those guys know their stuff!
Every actively/fan cooled light will have some residual "noise" to it, but I wouldn't call these loud by any means. Many reefers are extremely happy with them, which is probably why they are so popular.
Check out the AI Prime. Relatively affordable, super easy to use, and perfect for a tank of this size. www.bulkreefsupply.com/prime-16-hd-led-reef-light-black-body-aqua-illumination.html
I have a 48x24x16 shallow frag tank from waterbox. I have two AI primes and I'm only going for soft corals and maybe some LPS. Is that enough? It's at 100%.
For softies and LPS, that will work out just fine. You might find Randy's AI Prime setup video helpful. One of the test tanks was a 24" x 24" footprint 60 cube. While that test tank was a bit deeper than your frag system, you should still be able to get some valuable data from it by essentially treating your tank as two 24" x 24" sections. th-cam.com/video/QH2nsgrxoRI/w-d-xo.html
So I'm a mad man I got this one and the old 13 led style and my schedule they look the same in terms of that but I love these I just got them today and I have my tank by my bed, before sleeping I just play with them lol so cool I'm on my phone turning and controlling these lights
Glad you're enjoying the lights! Just remember, corals don't like constant light changes, so once you add corals resist the temptation to play with the settings 🙂
The AI prime does not come with a mounting bracket as each setup will be slightly different. AI offers a few different mounting options to pick from so that you get the one you need.
We've found that the AI Prime can cover a max area of 2' x 2' for LPS corals, so for your tank, we'd suggest at least three of them for your 5' long LPS tank.
The original ai prime only goes to 119, i have an original and the 'HD' version next to each other. BRS did a video for the original ai prime while back, might be worth a look.
I freaking hate the “mounting options” being considered as a feature. How about they give you a basic mount for free, and not have to immediately cash out even more money
most important that should be mentioned, the new BT version of this lamp is a horrible downgrade regarding fan noise and cooling. while the older "wifi" version is nearly silent at 80-90% power, the new "bt" version is like an dusted computer from 2001 trying to compete with a jet engine who is louder......need to sell my new bought lamp because and loose money......because of course the dealer and AI say "that's fine"
What the real elephant in the room is AI have openly stated that running the LED's at higher than 100% reduces the lifespan of the LED's and many users running the UV at greater than 100% have burnt lenses. AI do however replace these under warranty and outside of warranty the lenses are a few$ to buy new. In saying that I own 3 and love them.
I keep V, RY, B channels going up and down between 97 to 108 on my day cycle, the UV on 60% and CW on 30-45%... I only have a few zoas on my waterbox20 and they look happy with the levels, I guess you can go up all the way to 125% on the channels but for me the tank looks too blue and hurts my eyes, it will fine if its a frag tank and you are growing corals as fast and as big as possible on the tank room but my reef is on my bedroom and I want to be able to see the zoas without the need to wear welding googles!!!
