    Very informative! Thank You BRS! This is the light I will be using for my reef tank. Cycling now and will be ready to install the AI prime for my birthday in May!

    Good video guys! I have 3 prime 16’s and a 24 inch XHO over my reefer 250 and I can grow anything especially SPS. A little note the mounting legs on the XHO’s fit perfectly on/under the hard prime mount. Wish I could attach a picture because it’s an amazing add on that fits so well you would swear they where made with that in mind.

    I have 5 tanks setup currently. 2 100g, 1 40g, 2 30g systems. I have ran both Kessil and AI with and without T5s for the last 3 years. My favorite setup is by far the AI primes with T5. The Kessil do have the best shimmer and no disco light effect. However for the cost of 1 Kessil you can get 2 AI Primes. Giving you better light distribution. This is the key for the long term growth of the corals. I then like to supplement the remainder of the light with T5's. No light bulb throws a blanket of light like T5's. BRS has a ton of great videos on how to setup the AI primes with light spectrum settings.

    • @NinjaSushi2
      @NinjaSushi2 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree. CCFLs throw light like a blanket and it's why T5s are still my favorite. I don't care how good LEDs are, nothing can top the full spectrum of a gas filled T5 CCFL as of April 2022. LEDs are cool in that you can target which spectrums you want to hit but CCFLs use a chemical reaction much like our sun to produce light and so produce a fuller spectrum closer to how the sun works. After all, the sun is a giant ball a gas burning not an LED.
      Also I should mention 3D Reefing now makes a 3D printed light shroud for the AI Prime. It's only 30 bucks and everyone swears by it.

    Great video guys .. really helpful as I’ve just purchased one.
    Quick question though .. if I’m using one for a 10g nano that’s only 13” tall am I better to have the light further away or reduce the power output? If spillage is a problem and it’s better to have it further away then I don’t mind buying a shade.

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Mounting the light higher will give you better spread. If you're keeping corals with branching growth patterns, this will be a big advantage as they grow out. If you don't mind the spill and are still getting the desired par numbers, that's the way I'd go.

    Love my Prime HD, i added a 16 HD when I upgraded and the colour is no where near as nice as the HD side of the tank... no matter how it Is tweaked, in hindsight a used HD would have been a better option...fans are quieter as well on the previous model

  • @Desmo1
    @Desmo1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The primes are pretty good and all but the one thing I don't think these guy's mentioned was the build quality around the fans are terrible. The mesh cover on the top of them ends up drooping down to the fan causing friction/noise. I ended up removing the mesh all together and then had a similar issue arise with even my 26hd.

    Is this light to strong for a nuvo 20? If so what else would you recommend? I am thinking of red sea since its only 50 watts but that might even be to strong! Dont like the look of the small kessils either so aesthetics is important to me LOL. I tried aqua illumination edge strip and grow nothing but algae. I have it at a preset acclimation mode and even still to much algae. I think its because it puts out a yellow light using the presets and cant get much customer support from them!

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      My suggestion would be to look at which tank from the video most closely fits the footprint of your tank and use that as a starting point. My educated guess is that about 8-10" off the water surface is where you'll end up.

      Hi Robert, we're really sorry to hear about your dad. As far as the lights we sell, the AI Primes discussed in this video are probably the best value in terms of cost/performance for a typical 30 gallon tank.

    I just got and started a reef tank. Spec: 150 gallon, 36” x 36” with 27” height. Been looking to upgrade my light and currently looking at hydra, ai and radion xr30 g5. More leaning towards xr30 but unsure of proper spacing or quantity I should have over my tank or pro vs blue. My goal is to be able to keep and maintain a mix reef tank. What are your opinions and recommendation?

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Given the tank dimensions and your goal of a mixed reef, I would suggest considering running four XR15's in a square pattern with two up front and two in the back row. This would mean that each light would cover an 18" x 18" footprint.

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's hard to say without knowing the tank that you'll be lighting. We found that Radions are actually a great value in terms of "price per par," but in some cases, you don't need all of the power. In those cases, the Prime may actually turn out to be a better value. Like Ryan always says, right tool, right job 🙂
