If I'm being honest, I almost shit myself when the statues started moving. Everything up to this point has a fun, adorable, and enjoyable time. Then this place shows up and you loses your shit as this comes *completely* out of left field
Real-talk, those statues seriously scared me more than Vanessa ever did. Lemme rephrase that, they *still to this day* scare me. Perhaps I biased myself (some of the stuff that I watched to convince me to buy the game featured Vanessa in parts), but I was UNPREPARED for just how TERRIFYING those angel statues were to me. And still are.
I seriously hate those statues. I first encountered them while examining the ruins near subcon swamp. I was very shocked when statue just started moving in my side and i tried to attack it but it do nothing and statue killed me. After that i never step in that ruins (except for moment when i wanted to go to sleepy subcon) and tried to not stay near headless statues.
Actually this level is really simple. So it gets funny pretty quick. I wouldnt know about doing it in vr, i just know vanessa is easy to predict Simply put. She wont even go in the same room as you unless you make a loud noise. Thats it.
My time spent while I played this act: 20% hiding under piano, tables, benches, etc. 10% actually doing what I’m supposed to 20% figuring out what to do next 50% screwing around with the statues to see if I can outrun them
Me for 5 percent of this: having my heart beat like someone rabidly slapping bongos then consulting youtube for a walkthough Me for 95 percent of this: me looking at the comments and sees one describing a shortcut to the end and uses it cuz I dont wanna deal with Vanessa again
I loved this level after the initial being stuck on trying to get the first key to fall. Sorta had a Luigi's Mansion vibe to it. There's something about scary things in kid's games that gets me. In actual horror games you often expect worse than what the game gives you, but this complete change of tone was really surprising. Especially that freakin earrape when Queen V sees you
You make a deal to do some errands for Snatcher in exchange for your soul which is an allegory to selling your soul to the Devil. Oh and there's a talking noose in Subcon Forest that would love to be wrapped around Hat Kid's neck. Do you still think this game is child friendly now? :3

Well, Gears and Breakfast clearly made this an homage to Amnesia, a game which set the bar for horror. Unfortunately the enemy AI is even worse than in Amnesia so once you understand it it's much less scary. The fear factor comes from the atmosphere and the effects.
@@MariusUrucu The scare factor really decreases after the first playthrough, even moreso than games like Amnesia because there's no AI to throw you a curveball.

They're based on the episode "Don't Blink" from Dr. Who about angel statues that move when you can't see them. This idea was also adopted on some servers of Space Station 13, where as a wizard you can use "flesh to stone" and the staff of animation to turn people into those statues.
tbh the amount of detail in this game amazes me. they never intended for most of the stuff that you see through the first person cammera to ever really be seen, but it was included anyway. hats off to gears for breakfast.

My first gameplay in this level lasted like an hour and i spent like 45 minutes of it just hiding. I didn't know she couldn't enter the other rooms freely so i constantly freaked out
should I be ashamed that I never actually completed this level legitimately? I used the speed run shortcut in the cellar that takes you strait to the attic to beat the level, and I never entered the manor since. Elsa from Frozen always scared me a little...
droideka 1 yeah it is in the cellar, inbetween two of the big kegs. You cant turn the camera to see it and you crawl through it. If you watch a speedrun of the game the speedrunners use it all the time because it skips you all the way to the attic.
