Your Thalassophobia is something I'm damn glad I don't have, every human has an inate fear of the unknown and therefore the deep ocean itself will be creepy to any human, however having your phobia quite literally amps that up to actual fear, in layman's terms, *fuck that.*
"Peak thalassophobia stuff is the transition from above to below" - you nailed it. I generally love the ocean and all marine life (especially sharks, they're beautiful, fascinating creatures), but something about those videos that shows the transition between seemingly unassuming waters and then something lurking in the depths, those get me every time.
I once saw a 360 video on youtube where the diver filmed a blue whale. It was quite interesting but oh so terrifying at the same time :D When I turned the camera angle down my heart just skipped a beat seeing the blue whale descent into the darkness. Edit: Found the video, name: "GoPro VR: Diving With a Blue Whale"
That transition is horrifying. Suddenly you find yourself in a dark world which looks unending. Your feet can't touch the floor. All those aquatic animals, submerged man made objects (especially those propellers). When you're in the water you are literally in the middle of nowhere. I can't imagine being in such a situation. Forget underwater, even if I look at a boat or ship in the vast ocean, that image in itself is scary
I recently discovered that I have megalophobia. And what scares me the most about stuff being submerged is when these things are huge. For example, when they show you how big icebergs actually are, like, when it transitions from the tip of the iceberg to the huge mass that floats under water, or how I recently saw a video about how New Zealand actually is the top of the underwater mountain range and when the video showed the animated transition I got mad chills.
The shark one is so scary because It's the perfect depiction of why the ocean is scary. You don't know what's in there. From above water you see nothing.
@@PyroRaptor1 yeah but whales I just have panic attack when I hear them or see them they are too big but it’s not like thalassophobia it’s more like whale phobia (think it’s called cetaphobia)

When I was young I fell asleep on a raft and drifted way out past the breakers at Virginia Beach. Right before I fell asleep this giant muscle guy in an embarrassingly small thong was swimming beside me who was making me uncomfortable. Sometime later something hit me ... hard. I kept my eyes closed because I thought the naked giant hit me. At some point I heard the lifeguard blowing hiss whistle from a long way off. I opened my eyes and the shore was at least a half mile away. I paddled most of the way back but whatever hit me put a hole in the raft and I had to swim the last bit. Some time later Shark Week started and I realized it was a shark. No idea how big, but the scary part is that my parents are super, super cheap and would only buy the $3.99 thin plastic pool rafts, but for some reason that year I had one of the thick canvas rafts with the 4 inner tubes that you have to blow up individually. That is the only thing that kept me from having to swim half a mile to shore with an unknown sea creature. I have not been deeper than my knees since.

Now, the problem with that is that they have very big teeth, so they take very big bites. And the problem with THAT is that if you take a very big bite out of a person, they tend to die a little
I also have a similar phobia that is hard for me to explain. I was on a cruise ship about 3years ago and my balcony was very close to the water. At night the waves crashing off the ship triggered my phobia and now I have that image in my head everytime I take a shower and i try not to one my eyes too long
I have it also...I've been in a lake and just the thought of not knowing what's down below me gives me the creeps and yes I know there would only be fish below me but it still freaks me out!!
as an Australian, i can tell you we love animals till we see a spider. NEVER. go near an Australian who's seen a hair on your clothes that looks like a spider.
sometimes I wonder if I watch your videos to scare myself. I've lived very closely to a beach my entire life, and I used to go all the time with my mother and brothers. I would swin around a bunch, but always stayed near the shallow area (Idk what's called). But in my teen years I've started to avoid going into the water, to the point I haven't been on a beach for 10 years, now. I walk around in the sand with my dogs, but I don't swin anymore. I don't like the feeling of not being able to see what I'm stepping on, the texture(?) of the sand and the rocks and kelp on my feet (lakes and rivers included). Sharks aren't common around here, but I'm fairly certain I'm gonna be attacked by one, squids and octopus are gross and fish tend to swin near my feet and I don't like that. I've been on a boat once in my life, but hated every minute of it. my city is very famous for it's bay, and bays are usually calmer than open sea, but the day I was on the boat, the ocean was very wavey(?) and the tip of the boat went underwater several times, and I really thought it was gonna sink, so...never again I know giant squids big enough to drag a boat underwater aren't real, but I hate the thought of it, and whales, altough usually friendly, makes me nervous because of it's size
I have found out I have thalassophobia when I started playing subnautica, it wasnt even a horror game, and I started getting anxious the deeper and darker I get.
That first shark video looks like it might be an actual shark spotting boat. Unless I'm mistaken, I thought I saw chum floating in a tank near the propeller. Would explain the excitement of the people and their interest in practically hugging the great white. 😆
there's a video of a group of basking sharks just doing their thing then one just shoots up out of the murk and breaches, it's quite awesome but also kind of terrifying lol
for me the scariest part is when the camera goes underwater and immediately you can see a huge whale or shark or something its like a massive jumpscare
1:25 whale, you can tell by the horizontal tail. completely harmless:) 2:31 aww he's just curious 4:45 sleeping sperm whale pod! it's beautiful. also sperm whales it squid. 7:08 honestly sharks shouldn't be the most scary thing in the ocean. id be more scared if a current was bringing a box jelly toward me. 9:02 that's beautiful to me lol. whales are chill 9:47 giant squid. they r pretty chill 11:36 filter feeder
Given the number of things in the ocean that would eat you and the fact humans are not sea creatures I fail to see how having a fear of the ocean or deep water is an irrational fear.
I have a mild Thalassophobia, but most people dont realise i do. When a friend invited me to go to the beach when i was a kid once I had a very close encounter with a moray eel.
As much as I like snorkeling and swimming in the ocean I do get uncomfortable when it's so deep I can't se the bottom, plus there's a quiet little voice in my head telling me that once I'm in the water I'm in the food chain, and I'm no where near the top.
More saucy Thalassophobia and Submechanophobia content on the way my friends! (As well as my other content!)

I've been on a boat once in my life, but hated every minute of it. my city is very famous for it's bay, and bays are usually calmer than open sea, but the day I was on the boat, the ocean was very wavey(?) and the tip of the boat went underwater several times, and I really thought it was gonna sink, so...never again
I know giant squids big enough to drag a boat underwater aren't real, but I hate the thought of it, and whales, altough usually friendly, makes me nervous because of it's size
I was running a bath…. Think I’ll transition to the shower, thanks… hahaha
there's a video of a group of basking sharks just doing their thing then one just shoots up out of the murk and breaches, it's quite awesome but also kind of terrifying lol
every one gansta while the shark is bumping the boat until one person fell
for me the scariest part is when the camera goes underwater and immediately you can see a huge whale or shark or something its like a massive jumpscare
"Warning, water is not buoyant, you will NOT float!" Oh yeah, watch me! -gregbrodudeman
You will not float
Greg “and I took that personally”
5:15 That can't be a meteor. It would have been in pieces. The lake was made by a meteor and the lake is 115m deep.
1:25 whale, you can tell by the horizontal tail. completely harmless:)
2:31 aww he's just curious
4:45 sleeping sperm whale pod! it's beautiful. also sperm whales it squid.
7:08 honestly sharks shouldn't be the most scary thing in the ocean. id be more scared if a current was bringing a box jelly toward me.
9:02 that's beautiful to me lol. whales are chill
9:47 giant squid. they r pretty chill
11:36 filter feeder
so w air mattresses you’re actually supposed to fill them up, leave it for a bit, then refill it right when you go to sleep.
I’m the worst for Thalassophobia, but can deal with the Great Lakes where I’m from. But forget the ocean. That shit is as formidable space.
9:15 you know how the whales talk? hahahah
Ah yes, why I cannot play Subnautica, and get very uncomfortable when any game does deep water parts well.
As much as I like snorkeling and swimming in the ocean I do get uncomfortable when it's so deep I can't se the bottom, plus there's a quiet little voice in my head telling me that once I'm in the water I'm in the food chain, and I'm no where near the top.
I don't even like waist deep water. I also don't like walking in tall grass. Mine is a fear of not being able to see my legs.
I'm always have an irrational fear a whale would like be feeding and I'd accidently get sucked in...
i dont want some fish to touch my foot when im in the water
Watching these videos on land makes me feel like I need to urgently get out of my own skin
