You’re right about lights being sketchy in deep, dark water. Using a light source in the deep ocean is pretty damn sketchy. A lot of the animals down there are bioluminescent and of course, they have predators. Those predators are always ready for a meal since they’re so scarce down there. So you’d be ‘dressing up’ as their dinner and fully illuminating yourself for anything around to see. Even with the light, you wouldn’t see it coming until it had already seen and followed you for a few thousand feet at least. Usually there’s not as much life in deeper water but still, you’d never know if a predator was stalking you in the void. Scary stuff man.
The "puddle" is the most scary one to me personally because that is very narrow, so if you fall in and aren't able to grab the ledge you will not be able to swim back up there's just no room to move. You would also be in shock from the cold water so you may take on some sea-water into your lungs and will drown slowly, freezing, unable to move or escape as you slowly sink deeper into the ocean approaching the darkness with nothing to do but accept your painful death.
@@tylerdavis3 So what, you'd still eventually die drowning at the bottom of the shaft since the walls are slippery wet ice. When you reach the bottom you might get out the bottom end and stay trapped under the ice shelf
@@Anthonybrother I mean it’s possible but usually those holes are very deep and don’t open up for a long while, and you aren’t going to be dropping very far in the water just falling in, maybe if you had some height but I seriously doubt you’d get trapped. 4:18 reminds me of an artificial lake I've been to as a kid. It was nicknamed "baggerloch" which roughly translates to "excavator hole". It was just that. Some old digging place, filled with water. Oh and possibly die 😬 Your voice and the way you talk makes me feel a bit more comfortable with what I'm looking at. I bet if you delivered all of my bad news to me I would take it a lot better 😂

Interesting thing about Neon in Starfield... They actually have an access elevator down at water level. Curiosity got the best of me! xD They knew people would either fall off accidentally, or some dumb/crazy mofo (me, somebody with megalohydrothalassophobia) would jump off! lol Thankfully, you can't dive. It's actually terrifying how much Lake Michigan is like the ocean. I go there a lot, but to the great lake, (y'know, lake... lake Michigan-), and its just... huge.
Any time someone says they don’t know what’s so scary about the ocean I just say “exactly. Did you know nasa used to explore the ocean and only discovered about 5-7% of it before exploring the endless black void of nothingness we call space.” And they just look at me wide eyed like they just got a new fear
You don't need the flashlight in the deep sea. There are bioluminescent sea creatures, and it's easier to see their light show without your own light source. In some places, the displays can be seen from above the surface of the water, too :)
Check out the drop off on Georgian Bay on Lake Huron (Great Lakes) Ontario, Canada. It's a few feet of shallow water with a few hundred foot drop off a couple feet of the shoreline. We used to go up there to go cliff jumping. It's illegal now, because too many people drowned. But people still go, they just wait for the patrol boat to pass by and then jump and wait till it passes again to jump again. Much love from Canada.
Hey since you mentioned the whole oil rig sci-fi loving thing it reminded me of this game thats in the works called Combustion! The setting is an oil rig town and the creator calls it Deiselpunk! Its still pretty early in development but its really cool i think you should look it up and maybe give the demo a try!
The one thing that I fear the most is being in the ocean and swimming over/under a submarine. Those things are absolutely, utterly terrifying, because their "ping" or sonar will affect you greatly depending on how close you are. Say you're right above or below- which, again, is what I'm terrified of- I heard that it's possible for it to KILL you. I'm not sure how true that is, but the thought of becoming disorientated or die upon impact of a submarine sonar gives me nightmares.
Actually submarines would not be using their sonar pings, they use a different method for location and orientation. Frigates, Destroyers and Cruisers on the other hand can be heard miles away, specially when they're actively searching for something!
a flashlight in the open ocean could help you tell which way you're moving and how quickly, because it reflects off the particulate in the water. i assume that's why they have them?
7:57 this oil rig reminds me of Howl's Moving Castle 11:21 I'm a diver whose dived in quarries before, sometimes, if it's at a place like a national park, they'll put stuff at the bottom for divers to go and explore. Great experience if you're a new diver. 10/10 would recommend
First underwater camera picture makes sense as photos took a few minutes to take, thus the need for the diving gear in order to stay there long enough 😁
Being in the deep sea is like being in space but you're at a much more realistic risk of encountering monsters.
NASA agrees with you, so what scared them out of the ocean and into space

Awesome just in time to watch whilst eating❤
No more hat. Your haircut grew out! Nice.
Loving the channel❤
Just found your channel, and it’s great to see all the things i’m terrified of, talked about 😂
The nightmare tea party 😅
Thank you Greeeg
That puddle’s all fun and games until somebody slips
You actually helped conquer my fear of deep water so thanks!
10:28 tea party at 100ft below the water 😂
Hey since you mentioned the whole oil rig sci-fi loving thing it reminded me of this game thats in the works called Combustion! The setting is an oil rig town and the creator calls it Deiselpunk! Its still pretty early in development but its really cool i think you should look it up and maybe give the demo a try!
Not me reactively shrinking in my seat as the propeller passes overhead
I live in Higgins lake MI, it truly is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen and I’m not even bias about it
a flashlight in the open ocean could help you tell which way you're moving and how quickly, because it reflects off the particulate in the water. i assume that's why they have them?
Underwater hot tea 🍵🔥 11:08
7:57 this oil rig reminds me of Howl's Moving Castle
11:21 I'm a diver whose dived in quarries before, sometimes, if it's at a place like a national park, they'll put stuff at the bottom for divers to go and explore. Great experience if you're a new diver. 10/10 would recommend
its that time of the month where i have a panic attack willingly
8:40 Americans must've not discovered blueberry cheesecake yet
The boat/submarine passing over one was spooky
First underwater camera picture makes sense as photos took a few minutes to take, thus the need for the diving gear in order to stay there long enough 😁
The game is pretty good. Has some subnautica vibes but seems more story based.
If oceans were transparent , fear unlocked. I don't have thalasophobia, unless it was see through .
"little death straw" Lord help me xD
My heart dropped when the propellers went over that diver
Is that stardew music at the end?! It’s so familiar sounding
