I just bred and imprinted a bunch of super high level Moschops a couple months ago (one for each thing they can specialize in), and I was pretty blown away by how great they are. I always just kind of overlooked them because I've had some awesome harvesting Therizinos for a long time, but the Moschops are freaking AMAZING. I'm legitimately annoyed that I didn't start using Moschops sooner.
These things are ridiculously strong. Im riding a lvl 151 imprinted moschops and it has been able to solo everything I've come across so far. Even alpha raptors and the Spino at south spawn
As a fairly new "returning" player to Ark who has been scouring videos for learning and training, I almost missed that this was a "new" video and that you are still helping out, so thank you for that. I started my new game roughly following along with your "Soloing the Ark" guy. The one issue I had, is that to the best of my knowledge I had the settings the same as yours. (I'm playing on PC) However the further I got into your videos, I would see more and more that just about everytime you tamed a new creature, it would be on average 40-50 levels higher than anything I could find. I would check back, make sure my difficulty slider was all the way up, and that the "Maximum Difficulty" setting was checked. Still could not find any higher level dinos. Finally I came across a few posts that talked about changing the settings in the .ini files, which I'm reading that all settings used to have to go through. Anyway, I came across a setting that added the line "OverrideOfficialDifficulty=5", and bingo.....Finally seeing dino levels jump up to 150 and less, in multiples of 5. The more I read, I noticed that it means the "Maximum Difficulty" checkbox simply does not work on PC. There are a few posts about this. I was assuming since you have probably been playing for awhile, that you probably already had that line added into your config. So my question, or possible request is.....That now that Ark is "finalized" on PC at least more or less, is there any possibility of doing a more updated video or series on things like those settings, I only ask because while I don't mind the learning curve or time I'm taking to learn the game, there was a lot of wasted time and hours simply trying to hunt down a high level dino when they were never going to spawn anyway until I made that change in the ini files.
Moschops are awesome starter tames, they hit as hard as a trike but attack 1.5x faster. Like moschops can kill raptors, trikes, turtles, terror birds, etc. Extremely mobile as they swim okay and have good weight to start. Find one with a decent level that wants flowers or mushrooms or berries and nab it. Moschops can be your parasaur/raptor alternative. Also, 1st Attack: Normal Bite 2nd Attack: Better Meat Harvest 3rd Attack: Better Tree Harvest
This along with the Dodo is a MUST HAVE TAME when you first start out. It doesn't need a saddle to ride, it can eat nearly anything, it actually has a decent attack when you're riding it. Yes it's a coward when you aren't riding it, but until you have the ability to tame more able mounts it does pretty well at keeping you alive and getting you supplies.
Moschops also excel at gathering chitin. These guys can pull stacks of chitin if you take them into caves on the Island. This can be really handy for 'hard way' cement paste before you can make cake for an achatina farm.
Before the TLC I forgot these guys existed because there was no point of taming them. Now they’re my early game gatherers, travel and kinda fighters if I pump the melee which I tend to do because that increases resource gathering to and extent.
Hey Phlinger, love your videos. Any updates about prime fish meat harvesting using moschops? The least I could do is regular fish meat from Megalodon... :D
I play SP with taming 3x and it made moschops the OP early game mount: no saddle needed, shockingly good melee damage, and kind of a walking slot machine. At level 1 with one tintoberry in your 0 slot, you can insta-tame them. Not bad at doing the early caves either!
If you're taming them on really low level and they want something super hard to find/get wait up a little and they're change their mind and want to eat something else, just repeat this until they want something easy to get
I will have to try riding one and harvest stuff. I haven't used them for more than as a "wagon" so I could keep my inventory load as light as possible. I had one of those huge, long necked dinos get into my compound that I was still building with wood spikes around the territory with three dino gates, and decided to chance attacking it with stone arrows from an early bow to see if it would chase it off. I had around 2 dozen Dodos at various stages of leveling up, some of which I had hatched out. Most of them were told to ignore whistle calls, but it seems most of them and seven Lystrosaurus attacked my target anyway. I ran around taking random shots while trying to avoid it's long, killer tail whips and that monster died rather quickly. I think the Lystrosaurus and Dodos did all the damage, other than the four to six shots I got in. Got a ton of meat and hide from it, but again, the Moschops kept bumping my avatar and ruined a few bow shots. I did lose a few Dodos, but that seems to be it.
Moschops are worth taming right off the start. Just keep looking for a low level that wants something easy. You'll find it with a tiny bit of patience.
So this is kind of crazy I just started playing and it only took me one rare flower and one mejo Berry to tame him. I'm only a level 50. So I don't know if something changed since you posted this to now but it's a lot easier than you said
Hot tip. Keep trying until you find a moschops that only needs some berries to tame. Try all of them. The moschops is VERY good as a beginner mount (no saddle needed). I found 4 that only needed simple stuff to tame, and even at low levels, they can devastate trikes and turtles for easy meat, keratin and hide harvesting. Also absolutely silly once you can take a moschops to the reeds to harvest flowers. I got 72 flowers in about a minute in that same spot while riding a moschops.
You should have probably turned down the taming rates to vanilla for the demonstration. I could be wrong but I think they all don't need that much to tame except the higher level ones just probably will require rarer items on average.
Moschops are the smartest dinos because if another dino attacks your he won t run away and the moschops goes in the water to fight with a cnideria just random
The other thing my Moschops are doing is charging into a fresh kill and eating the meat before I can harvest it and the hide. Until the kill is made they are running around trying to avoid combat, getting in my way, and otherwise just being a nuisance during the combat phase. They bump my avatar constantly, even shoving her/him out of the way to get to the fresh kill, devore it, and there is nothing left to harvest. I have taken to putting them on follow "high" to get them away from the avatar. It seems the only thing they are good for is carrying a large load of harvested stuff.
When i tamed a moshchops i was pissed since i used it for storage since i was on hard i was pissed on the moshchops because it Was hit by compys i ran away so fast but thanks phlinger your vid a amazing as always can you do a video on how the most underrated dinos can be so Op

What I am trying to figure out is why Moschops offer a lot of interesting stuff if you invest in the options, but I never seem to be given anything. Know what I mean? What do I have to do to receive those items, most of which are used on taming Moschops, or when making stuff other than turn them loose? I don't yet have a bird, or other type of flyer to get around, so I am wondering why the Moschops offer some of the stuff, or most of the stuff you discuss in this video, but it never shows up in my inventory?
He does show you in this particular video a very easy way to get rare flowers and mushrooms using Moschops......for prime meat and fish when you're starting out, you use that bird, the Icthyornis. Send him to hunt fish for prime fish, or snag a couple dodos for prime meat.
I found if you go out of render it will change what it wants, that's how did two out of render back in until they wanted berries or something I had on me xXx

Actually i play ark mobile on hard mode I tamed 1 moshchops it is a level 200 before i tamed it and after ive tame it .It was level 299 it only requested mejoberrys it just took long but it didnt ask for anything thing else i was level 2 its really hard to level up
I “ganked” a level 135 trike on my 174 moschops in one shot. I play on official settings except for taming speed. He has 10k health and 3k melee. I have named him Godzilla due to him being the strongest moschops I have ever seen. He was also my first tame. Is it rare for moschops to be this strong?

A moschop was no joke my main attacker/storage/everything when I first started my world. The unit could take on megalodons with ease.

I just had one walk right up to me at my base. I must've been lucky because all it tool was 2 berries and he was tamed.

I’ve got one of these guys with over 600% mele damage and around 55 levels put into organic polymer harvesting. He’s a bit of a beast
Pro tip:
Kill a trilobite, harvest with moshops, get 100 chitin on ×1 server

The moschops was the first dino i tamed and i still use it to this day Bc of its great utility. I highly recommend for new players

Ummm Idk if this got updated out or not on PC but on my phone I have had this from the start but I don’t have any of these options. Sad

A video on how to get food for tames would be good. Not kibbles, but how to get stuff like prime meat, prime fish, rare flowers etc.

Its a scorched earth/ ragnarok thing. Joshua trees (The spiky looking trees) occasionally drop it when chopped.

My advice is use them on the herbivore island otherwise they get killed pretty easily. Mine just got killed by a raptor
