Those are my shoes! Trent, you did a beautiful job! It's nice to see high quality shoes get a high quality cobbling job. When I got them back from the local cobbler who did the initial work I thought they looked...okay. But when I got home and examined them more closely I started to notice the substandard work he did. From the cemented half sole to the uneven heel to the rough edges to the varnish splashed everywhere, it was just an ugly and unpolished job. If he charged a price commensurate with the work it could almost be excused but that was not the case. I paid almost $100 for it. Thanks again Trent. You and Heath would probably reject this characterization, but you guys truly are artists.
Well, we all make mistakes eh. I live in NY and can send my shoes to any cobblers in NYC. Sadly, I haven't found anyone as good as these guys, Bedo's Leatherworks, and a few others. I wouldn't trust any local cobbler who can't show me their craftsman ship or processes ahead of time.
There's a big difference between calling out other cobblers for doing shoddy work and setting a standard of quality. Like it or not you guys have set a standard and those of us who wouldn't know any better are thankful.
Amazing work, as always. I always appreciate your restraint in criticizing other cobblers. I smiled every time you referred to the previous repair as, “…not the best.” You’re a true southern gentleman. You would have been justified in calling the repair job what it was, a hot mess. But your work speaks for itself, so you didn’t have to. You guys are such a pleasure to watch. Thank you for sharing your work with us.
@@hydroaegis6658 I agree to an extent. And I think the customer should definitely leave negative reviews for the original cobbler so other potential customers know what’s up. I just meant that it isn’t necessary to be overly critical when we can obviously all see what superior work Trent did compared to the original cobbler. We didn’t need to be told the other work was disastrous; we could see it. I just appreciate the level of professionalism that comes with letting one’s own work shine rather than focusing on the shortcomings of others.
@@JenLynFin I agree with both of your comments. They are true southern gentleman, a rare breed these days. They allowed their work to say what was needed.
JM Weston makes an mazing shoe. Stacked leather, thick nails, high stitch density on the welt, etc. They do their own leather tanning via traditional method. I would have been pissed if those came back with the original shoddy work. Great job as always!
it's always the details and finish work that make the customer happy......when we fixed cars, all the customer looked at was how shiny and new everything looked at the end....the original work left a lot to be desired....if it was a 50 dollar repair then fine but you pay for quality and it shows....I am sure the customer was ecstatic when he saw the new shoes
I’ve been working in the shoe repairs business in the UK for around 4 years and I still watch these videos amongst others to improve my craft and provide the best possible service with the tools I’ve got available to me! Really grateful to you for any and all the skills I’ve learned here. I’ve seen repairs such as this myself and I can appreciate this individuals attempt to repair these shoes because we all have to start somewhere. That being said, I wouldn’t charge a fee if this was the end result! Apologise and explain that you tried your best and advise a more skilled craftsman while you continue to improve your craft 🙏🏻 Most times it’s a respectful service that keeps us in business rather than a quick pay day 👍🏻
Fantastic! It is because of your channel that I am learning about true quality and craftsmanship, and that good shoes can last decades if you care for them. I have learned that really good shoes are an investment and your favorites can last for many many years. No More Kenneth Coles for me. (just because Dillard's or Neiman's has them doesn't mean they are the best). This is a great video. I appreciate the time and effort you guys spend on educating dudes who don't know better or who were never raised with the idea that good shoes should last a very long time. That restoration was excellent. Cheers to you guys for showing us what to look for.
After experiencing so many terrible repair jobs I’ve decided to send all my jobs to Japan. You would think there was at least one good cobbler in New York City where there are so many leather shoes walking around. But, no. In Japan there seems to be a different standard when it comes to shoe repair. They are fantastic and the level of finishing is like I’ve never seen, sometimes better than the manufacturer. Thank you for keeping the standard so high for shoe repair in the states. You guys are exceptional!
Happy New Year. I have had cobbler repairs all over the world, Vienna, London, SFO, San Diego, Philadelphia, Detroit Belle Meade These two gentlemen are the top of their game and in my experience the best in America.
There was a poster hanging in my high school classroom, and it has stuck with me through the years. The poster simply read "If you don't have time to do it right, you must have time to do it again." How true this rings especially with this repair job. Good on you for not slandering, simply setting an example of what the standard should look like.
This is why i keep coming back to you guys. not only do you do a great job, but you explain every step of the way and show the craftsmanship of an almost forgotten art. Hats off to you both for your love and dedication to your profession.
I’m loving the longer videos!!!! Always so interesting and informative. I love watching the entire process of shoe restoration. I’d love to see you go to the thrift store again and get a better made but worn out shoe to redo for auction!!! That was so wonderful!!
You know men... You both are one up on the history channel. The History Channel could not present you any better than the production you have here on the YT CHANNEL. I have worked on a few movies, tv commercials,tv shows, music videos...the show is right at viewer level. You have marketed yourself into a wealthy retirement program. You two will be working in your retirement just to catch up on your backlog... I have not seen anyone do better in presentation. You have a genuine charisma and the lens likes you. YOU MADE YOURSELF INTERNET STARS! Congrats to the camera crew, production and editing team... You keep it short, sweet, and simple. A winner every time...
It is so satisfying seeing a job done well and with pride. And I appreciate the respect you show other cobblers by avoiding personal criticism and keeping the criticism informative and professional. Maybe the first cobbler will see what you have done and be inspired to improve! I know I would be. Thanks for posting. 😊
I have a local man who does very good work, however, if I had to recondition a pair I really loved, I would send them to Trenton and Heath. No question, attention to detail sold me after your third video.
Nice to see Steve comment, two best cobbler channels out there! I love it when people do things the right way and brings pride to the profession. Yes these guys ARE professionals! 👍🏻
Happy New Year to you Trenton & Heath. I just love how those shoes were restored with great artistic craft and professionalism. Looking forward to seeing more videos of shoe repair for 2022. Respect.
As a home renovations specialist, we see similar situations where a previous contractor does subpar work at best. We have never made a habit of discussing or putting down others work to our clients. If they are calling us then they already recognize an issue. We may very well answer questions related to the previous work, but we minimize our response to only the specifics related to the work itself. We never ask who the precious contractor was etc. If one takes pride in their work, continues to grow in skill and knowledge, and is honest with clients….well, you dont even need to be the least expensive. Just give the client value for what they are spending and you will stay busy and booked
Nice job I'm a fourth-generation Shoemaker never seen anybody glue a sole on with out stitching my grandfather said to me never glues soul and leave it without stitches great job guys keep stitching the shoes we need to use the stitchers thank you
This is WAY better than some random ASMR video. True craftsmanship, true work of art! The voice (you sounded perfectly fine sir BTW) , the sound, everything is so calming. I need to get some work done tonight and I decided to watch this video during my break. I'm ready to get back work, thank you guys! Greetings from Tokyo, Japan. :)
My first words when seeing before shots: "Eeewww--uh-hug-leee!" And when seeing the final outcome: "Wow, nice! Trashy to classy." Great job sir! Thanks for the Saturday treat. Happy weekend, all! 🤙👞
Great work! As I get into this trade It’s good to see what botched jobs look like so I know what I need to avoid. I really appreciate your videos, guys!
Happy New Year Trent. The one thing that I first noticed on the prior repair was the pitch of the heels. They didn't lay flat and were canting upward in the back. That had to have felt strange to walk on. You got the shoes back to looking the way they they were supposed to. BTW you sound fine to me and glad the surgery went well. : )
It's always the quality of the little details that determine the level of craftsmanship that the craftsman will be judged by. As always you guys do the job to the level that you would expect for someone to do for you.

If these had been a pair of work boots and the owner was really budget constrained the whole cost/benifit analysis that others have mentioned in the comments would be more relevant. Not everyone is willing and/or able to spend the extra to get the best results possible. Thanks to watching this channel I have come to appreciate the difference that quality makes. Better information makes us better consumers.
I am a leatherworker. Never had a luxury of someone teaching me, I read couple of books cover to cover. Although I am not a cobbler I've learned even more by watching Trenton & Heath's videos.
Interestingly that cork looks like it comes directly from the tree, rather than in the small chunks as you would see in most cork sheeting or indeed, in the hot cork mixture. Lovely job for this truly deserving shoe! Keep it up!
The difference is like if you painted a car with a brush or you paint it with the best paint and paint gun available. You guys do great work. I can't wait to wear out my boots just so I can have you guys fix them!
Trenton, Your voice fine. I didn't notice anything different. Good redo. I had a half sole job that was similar to what you redid here even down to the bad angling. The work was done at a chain here in Houston. I went to them for convenience and I paid for that convenience. Took them recently to a different cobbler, my new go to cobbler who is not cheap, but very good, and he redid them the way I should have had them done originally, a full new resole.
I enjoy your videos. I seem to learn something from every video. While I have no interest in learning how to make or repair shoes, I have learned enough to be an informed buyer. Thanks!
You don't want to talk bad of other cobblers but don't be afraid to call it what it is, lazy sloppy work that someone paid good money for. A real quality brand like JM Weston and the customer deserved better than they got. Lucky a true professional like you was there to rescue the job.
I just discovered this channel and have been binge watching it. Really great quality work. Especially with this repair. Enjoying the videos keep them coming. And by the way. I didn’t hear anything wrong with your voice.
I'm glad you aren't too hard on the original cobbler. I think being a cobbler is a tough business when so many people don't appreciate the cost of labor. So they charge what their customers are willing to pay, and they lower the quality to match. I'm sure most cobblers know how to do a good job, but they are afraid to tell their customers what it would cost.
I enjoy your videos and the work you all do. I am also interested in the machines in your facility. Some look old, some newer and I wonder how challenging it is when your machines need repair. Also, in one video I thought I saw green thread next to the stitcher. I would LOVE to see that used!
Im 19 and currently apprenticing w a cobbler near me and this is the kind of work he does and has been teaching me. It hurts because i want to make a career keeping this trade alive with good quality work. I am forced to do shoddy work since He has rank on me, and I have to do as I’m told. I hope to buy his shop and turn things around.
Those are my shoes! Trent, you did a beautiful job! It's nice to see high quality shoes get a high quality cobbling job. I watch your work too. You and T&H set the standard and I admire each of you.
Exactly, my two favorite shoe guys. Well, three actually. My two favorite shoe channels!

Thanks, Rob. You’re too kind!

Amén !
I'm sure somebody has suggested this, but just in case they have not: I would enjoy watching you guys make a pair of shoes from scratch.
If this is something you do, I'd love to see it as well.

Being kind in the face of this level of incompetency (or fraud) is a disservice to customers in my opinion.

I'm sure most cobblers know how to do a good job, but they are afraid to tell their customers what it would cost.
👍
Your repair was 10 times better than what had been done before. Professional vs. Amateur.
Hey so happy new year, and may the surgery bring you relief! (and you sounded just fine in the video)
Thank you, Art. Happy New Year!
It so interesting watch videos like this .
You sound fine buddy, just keep doing what you do cuz we appreciate it.
Thank you very much, Daniel!
I enjoy your videos and the work you all do. I am also interested in the machines in your facility. Some look old, some newer and I wonder how challenging it is when your machines need repair.
Also, in one video I thought I saw green thread next to the stitcher. I would LOVE to see that used!
Good job that you guys can make a better job than the previous guy
Im 19 and currently apprenticing w a cobbler near me and this is the kind of work he does and has been teaching me. It hurts because i want to make a career keeping this trade alive with good quality work. I am forced to do shoddy work since He has rank on me, and I have to do as I’m told. I hope to buy his shop and turn things around.
JM Weston best brand of the world

i love how you just blend those sponsorship ads into your videos!
