      I have a question about laundry- I don't see in a small family (say of 1-3 people) why we would do laundry every day. Is there a reason why you say a load of laundry a day.... I usually only have 2-3 loads a week tops to do. Is there something else other than laundry that would be better to put in?

    I found doing laundry once, or twice, a week works best for us. I designate a day, start early, and get it done. The one load a day method, for me, was the each-load-got-forgotten method. A lot less stress to have a laundry day. Perhaps this method might work better for others, too.

    The idea of creating a starting point system works for me. In my season of life, I live in a small apartment, I make my bed as soon as I stand up, takes about 1 minute. Next is the kitchen, in the time it takes the microwave to make a cup of tea, I can tidy the counters and put away any dishes left to dry. I habitually straighten the sofa pillows and hang up my clothes, so I don’t have that kind of clutter. It takes mere minutes to get the whole apartment presentable. Having a starting point is excellent, eliminates decision making, which would take longer than doing it! The things I do when I get my day started have been automatic. The system works! Thank you for doing what you do.

And the bonus is that when I've done my 5 minutes I haven't finished the task I started. But I know exactly what task I will be finishing during my next 5 minutes. This stops me worrying about a huge space as a whole and makes me m9re likely to fit in the 5 minute blocks. It's working for me so far!

For someone with ADHD that usually can’t stay on task with anything it helped me do that as well as think about other areas in my home I may need to go back and revisit. I also like the “giving yourself permission to just let it go” as I grew up in a save it for later because it cost money home as a kid and always felt overwhelmed by stuff (although my parents did keep it all really organized.

    I have just made a terrible decluttering mistake! My family were away last week and I decluttered my home and it looks SO much better, they all said so when they returned. But in my decluttering haste and over-enthusiasm, I took two large bags to the charity shop and it contained one of two identical coffee mugs belonging to my husband. I figured as they were duplicates, one could go. But he is now asking where the other mug is because they were sentimental to him as they belonged to his late mother. I went to the charity shop this morning but they don't know where it is or if it has been sold. I don't know what to tell him! I also threw out a random small piece of metal I found on the floor, only to discover after the trash was collected, that the metal had belonged to an antique Singer sewing machine my daughter bought recently! Oh help Dawn, I have learnt not to be so impetuous in my decluttering next time - I think it was my desperaton to clear my home but I got carried away with a tight time limit!

    • @andreamiller6200
      @andreamiller6200 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @birdsaloud7590 I am hearing your angst and want to see if I could soothe it at all. It is fair to apologize to your husband but I wonder if an eBay or Etsy search could turn up another mug like the decluttered one - if it still really matters with time since your decluttering was done with good intentions even if seemingly impetuous. And as far as the part to the antique Singer sewing machine - I tossed a random bit of metal tubing sitting on my shelf only to realize with dismay that it belonged to a midcentury modern chair that I had acquired. The good news out of that is that I found a furniture refinisher who re-fashioned the entire mechanism of this chair to make it work so well, better than the original, and that discarded metal piece was not needed in the end. I hope that your daughter can find a way to enjoy her Singer even if she does not have that piece, or could possibly find that piece on Etsy or eBay. For what you wish you had not let go of, what you DID let go of created a space of serenity where love can flourish and my hope is that is what you ultimately find you feel when you think about what motivated you to work so hard to make your beloved family feel replenished upon their return.

      @birdsaloud7590 I think you have had a couple of lovely replies to your problem. I would like to tell you a story which I hope may help too. A while back, my sister came to visit for a couple of days, with her dog. While I was making lunch and chatting with her; her naughty dog brought a plate crashing down to the floor. Unfortunately, it happened to be an irreplaceable plate: the last of my wedding set from 1973; & my husband has died too, so it was all I had physically left of my wedding. I was pretty devastated, especially as I have a weird sentimental attachment to things (ex hoarder which I have largely overcome). Well, I rationalized he was only a dog and didn't know any better; and anyway, it was only an old plate, so I DID get over it. About 6 months later, my sister gave me a beautiful replacement plate: not identical (she had scoured everywhere and could not find an exact match), but a lovely plate made by the same company. Guess what? I really LOVE the plate my sister gave me. I use it every day and I think so fondly about her every time I see it. At the end of the day, it is the relationships that matter, not the things. Perhaps you could do the same with your husband. Apologize, and do the best you can to make up for the loss. Best wishes.

      That is so lovely of you to comment so kindly - thank you! I came on here to update my story in that I revisited the charity shop a second time and this time, there was a different member of staff and he went upstairs and had a look for me and he came down with the mug in his hand! This was amazing as I could see other items I had donated were already on the shelves for sale! My husband was none the wiser and the first thing I did when I got home was to wash it and give him a cup of coffee in it, remembering to remove the for sale sticker on the bottom of it :) Thank you again. I will keep my eye out for a replacement part for the sewing machine.@@andreamiller6200

    I did the unthinkable this morning. I decluttered my Tupperware/plastic containers. I must have had 40-50 items. 🤢🤢. My sister came by snd I asked her if she needed any. She took ALL of it. I said do you have room for this, she says I’ll make room. I need to direct her to your channel, she wouldn’t be as appreciative!!

    You inspired me to declutter this past weekend. I was able to get rid of over 100 items in my closet and bathroom in about an hour. It did not take a ton of time but has shown a lot of difference. I feel like this was layer one and I did not count my trash items. But my goal is 1 -2 rooms or closets each weekend.

    Hello Dawn! I’ve watched your videos for a couple of years now, and I’ve been so inspired. I feel like I’m sitting with a friend when I tune in! Though my home is not as minimal as I’d like, we’ve tried to make meaningful changes along the way to help us function better (goodbye extra towels and dishes!). I am a working mom who lives at the ball field, so permission to focus on the Daily 3 during this busy season without feeling guilty is so freeing. Thank you for everything you do to bring others joy and to guide them in the ways of minimalism. May God bless you for blessing others! ❤

    This rolled through on auto play after my previous video. Such a great video. And a good reminder that it is better to focus on improving specific areas of your life at a time. I am currently working through managing chronic back pain through weight loss and strength training. I have felt a lot of tension over the state of my basement, and some other areas in my house that we haven't renovated yet. I feel like this video gives me good permission to put those things on hold while I put my energy into setting my body on the right track. ❤

    Congrats on 700K subscribers!! Thanks so much for this video. I have been super overwhelmed lately between the house, my business, my older son moving to homeschooling and my youngest starting PK at a charter school with the worst/longest pickup line on the planet (1 hour and 20 minutes is ridiculous). I have had to severely cut back on the hours I dedicate to my business because of this situation, as well as not being able to handle decluttering at all and barely keeping up with the house. I will be focusing on the daily 3 and see if I can handle that for the next week. It feels like something I can handle even with my energy limits.
