  • With more than 70 percent of our planet’s surface covered by ocean, controlling the waters is a strategic necessity. Of all the vessels that make up the world’s navies, the largest, by far, are aircraft carriers… and, in some cases, they’re virtually floating cities. Since the first ones set sail, technology has substantially improved, and the ones today pack a real punch that change the face of the battlefield. From the latest designs, to some of the more unique and unusual variants… it’s time to take a look at the 15 most advanced aircraft carriers.

    In 1965 My great-uncle became the commander of the USS Kitty Hawk aircraft carrier. We got to be there for the ceremony. As a little kid, it was an amazing sight to see. I don’t remember everything, but some. I remember riding on the huge flight elevator, and guests being told “No photos allowed” in certain areas. The Kitty Hawk is no more. She was recently dismantled. It was kind of sad to hear that, only because it was such a special experience to see her up close and personal. My uncle continued his naval career until he retired as, Admiral Martin Doan Carmody. He passed away about 15 years ago and is buried at Arlington National Cemetery. He was an amazing man. Just like his big brother, my grandpa. 🇺🇸🇺🇸

      Definitely!!! I just wish a Strike Witches fanfic would be made where a U.S. carrier with a complement of these amazing fighters arrives at the doorstep of the 501st or 502nd JFW.

    I used to have a 'USS America' baseball cap from the early 1970s during the Vietnam War - not the same ship shown in this video. Have been on the USS Hornet, USS Ranger, USS Enterprise, and I think one other that was in Alameda during the 1970s.

    You rated the Kuznetzov higher than the Nimitz??? or was this in no particular order?

      The order they showed them does indeed point to it being in no particular order.

      The fact that they rated the prince of wales at number 10 also suggests this is either in no order or a load of nonsense

    Did you seriously put the Nimitz class carrier at #15??? It should be second only to the Ford class

      @jskelly1979 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@danielobrien1571 Do you think she came here to be complimented? She was looking to express her opinion/thought/memory, and some guy has to always comment, without regards, about their looks. Save the compliments for a club or some place you go and try to meet another person and stop trying to make a love connection on a bus, train, plane, TH-cam, etc... people need safe spaces, free of creeps. Try looking beyond what you just see in a picture or name, their comment makes no sense from that. USS Kitty Hawk, World War 2, Subic Bay... all things of the past and no longer exist. She is obviously not that old, so maybe you should question the reality in which exists around you. And I do agree that I prefer long hair, but I will not make a comment on it about some random person on TH-cam.

    • @nolanturner5607
      @nolanturner5607 ปีที่แล้ว

      There was an international treaty signed after WW2 that limited total naval tonnage that countries could have. Not sure if it's still abided by today.
      That's possibly why Gerald R Ford class are replacing Nimitz class, or just that the US doesn't need 20 super class carriers. Or the Nimitz are reaching end of effective service life.

      Yep they do have good submarines, however they never built anything with the crews absolute safety in mind (Kursk etc.)
      Must be a bot as they neve ever made a reliable carrier and the Ukrainians built them for the USSR.
