very nice, went off-shore from bob hall pier a month back, targeted kings but they just weren't there. caught a few small red snapper near rigs but I guess I just need to jig out in the open water?
when you think about it, pound for pound, foot by foot, dollar per dollar, the Island series (AI or TI) are a great bargain... just load it on a trailer or top-it on a truck/jeep, and you can go literally anywhere.
not really. That kayak costs no more than 100$ to make at best (not including research and design) At the end of the day a new island or tandem island retails the price tag of a used Hyundai sonata (4700-6000) and any repairs you have to make for it ad up in the hundreds per visit on average. so I wouldn't say its a bargain (unless u get it on craigslist without a hole in it) However I will say that its definitely the Ferrari of kayaks. unlike an actual Ferrari, the boat holds up well to abuse. U can fish or sail on it, and when u sail its a speed demon and well if u comare it to the actual cost of owning a sailboat (not buying it, owning it) Then yes the island series are a bargain. I'm really happy with my AI best 2k I have ever spent.
You are comparing apples to oranges. A used Hyundai? Then what about a Rolex? C'mon. What other boat can you buy that is under 18' long, has practically zero-maintenance, can be trailered AND car-topped, can run on 3sources of power (wind, man, motor), carry a young family, has no insurance costs, fuel costs, docking costs, and take a beating... at that price? A WindRider is a Ferrari of kayaks, because it is fast and not as practical (just like a Ferrari). A Hobie AI/TI is more of a sports-wagon of Kayaks: it can haul ass, but be much more practical and economical than a WindRider. Enjoy your AI! Cheers ;)
Hi mater, I am planning to upgrade my outback to an AI, so I wanted to ask you couple question ,1- how hard is to handle the sail and the boar, 2 - how stable is yak? , 3- what model do you have? as I am planning to get a AI 2012. 4- besides de seat what s the different between AI 2012 vs AI 2015 ? , thanks heaps mate.

I have a question for any homie owners, how far out is a comfortable range for kayaks ? Like the islanders.
Out here in SoCal I try to keep it under 8 miles straight out. I tandem fish on a island with my wife all the time we're on our 60s.
David Roderick , really? What island? I’m up here in Sacramento area.
