We attended the Hobie demonstration day in Branson Missouri last Saturday. You are the best salesperson for this boat. You taught my husband to sail in 10 minutes! Now the whole family including the kids wants one of these fun boats. Thanks for the great lesson! Christmas 2016 is looking like it will be spent at the lake!

I had a Hobie back in 1980 which I subsequently sold a few years later. This year I bought the Tandem Islander and it is everything the video says it is. It is easy to sail and a total blast. Mine cost about 6K, well worth it when compared to other catamarans or small trimarans. It sails better, it is more comfortable, no boom to hit me in the head, better storage and the pedal drive is phenomenal. It is the best boat for the money I have ever bought.
@@azazelone905 I'm making a tramp out of a polyester mesh netting with about 1"/25mm holes. I'm hoping that it will be able to fold up... I've just got it mocked up on the akas now, testing tension etc.
Question for you: I would need to pedal this boat under a bridge, and then raise the mast. Would I be able to raise this mast while on the boat in shallow water with minimal wind? Think calm channel.
I know, crazy to see the price now. I remember wanting one and could buy it for 6,000 new. With that said, I’ve found a 2017 in very nice condition for only 3,000 and they will deliver it. Needless to say, I’m now an owner of a Hobie Tandem Island!!

Hello all. Looking for help. They no longer make the solo 16’ so if I want a fast hobie I Would need to get island model. But As I know nothing I’m wondering if the fandoms island is any faster being it is longer if u remover the rear seat weight as a solo pedaled boat? Thank you
Good question. The tandem Island is longer but also wider and more weight (even with the second seat and drive removed). You should try to demo one of our Revolution 13 models, the are very similar in speed to our older Revolution 16 but also have a more modern design for the hatches and rear cargo area.
Great tutorial video. I am ordering an Hobie AI from Brazil, it will take few months to deliver as you would expect considering it will ship from US. What parts would you recommend me to get as spare in case it breaks down, and avoid waiting 3 months get back in the water ?Thanks in advance. Antonio Canto
Only problem I see is if you are kayaking in cold waters like the pacific north west you are totally exposed to the elements/spray. You have no sit in cockpit and no spray skirt. Excellent for fair weather ~ and if I lived in hawaii perfect. But I doubt you'd be too comfortable in the San Juans (without wearing a ton of wetsuits).
I have a 2014 Adventure Island (AI) and I use it for fishing and sailing off the northern California coast. A wetsuit will work, but a drysuit is a much better option, IMHO. With a drysuit and proper layering underneath, it's a fun ride under a wide range of conditions.
I have one of these. How since I don't want to be shark bait or pay shark tax when fishing. I have a Ocean Guardian Freedom 7 shark reseller I drop the antenna through one of the scupper holes.

The boat is very stable, you can walk around on it. I haven't tried to install the mast in the water but don't see anything that would make it hard.
