I'm a 60 year old guy with a dream.. after (and still) owning a precision engineering company here in the UK, I'm looking for a 180 degrees change in life direction..so I brought a large property with outbuildings in Tuscany and looking to start a laser cutting and engraving company there...sort of have a plan...loving the omtech lasers..

  • @robinyilmaz1155

This is really cool, and I think this can be done much faster still. Some thoughts on an alternative process:
    1. Stick the aluminum sheet to the wood
    2. Put the full sheet in the laser cutter, and engrave your logo on the back.
    3. Spray lacquer on the back side of the full sheet.
    4. Take it to the cnc mill, and cut V- grooves where the smaller plates will later be cut. These gooves are chamfers, so avoid having to sand anything.
    5. All face-down operations are now done. Take off the protective film from the aluminum.
    6. In the cnc mill, now cnc mill, now cut the top surface V grooves, and drill the holes.
    7. Take the full sheet back to the laser, and engrave the patent design.
    8. Cut out the individual plates in the cnc mill. I know this takes more time than the table saw, but it takes YOU less time.
    9. Forget about laquiring the sides of the wood, its gonna be indoors anyway. Say it is to avoid spreading aerosols into the environment or whatever.
Extra: maybe use a thinner piece of plywood 😂
I'm sure I have misunderstood some parts of the process, but see if you can get any inspiration from it

    • @robinyilmaz1155
      @robinyilmaz1155 ปีที่แล้ว

Oh another idea, for those hangers and silicone bumpers on the back. Putting each of those in must take quite a lot of time. How about instead cnc machining a little pocket hole in the back, that the wall-screw just sits inside of. Sure, the hole may need a lip or something for the screw to hang on, but that could be made by using a dovetail cutting router bit

I take the low-res patent scans and convert them to vector art in Illustrator. (I show some of it in the previous video: th-cam.com/video/vdl1vDUQXL4/w-d-xo.html.) But the sketch lines are too thick to just outline, so I still need to raster scan them when engraving.

Aluminum compound angle jigs will also set it off, if they're misadjusted to hit the blade. Our maker space lost enough brakes to that that they needed to put the angle jig in an "instructor access only" cabinet.

Nice tutorial on batch production. Just an FYI to all watching...it is not an acceptable use of the "free" Priority Mail bubble envelopes to use them as packing material. (Double bagging, or using to pad boxed shipments) The packaging is included as part of the fee you pay. If caught, the Post Office may elect to charge you a fee for EACH Priority mailer used in your shipment, or in large misuse cases, criminal charges could be faced. Don't misuse the packaging folks. It just inflates the shipping costs for all of us. Buy a roll of foam packing material or use foam peanuts to pad your shipments.

The only thing you'll really get in trouble for is using Priority Mail supplies for anything other than Priority Mail. For example, using PM padded mailers inside a box shipped First Class or trying to obscure the PM labeling on a Flat Rate box to circumvent the PM rates. My post office has been aware for several years that I double bag the padded mailers.

For the spraying could you not get a decent sized enclosed tent to setup in your shop and rig up an inline fan like used for a laser to vent the fumes outside of your shop?

I love your sense of humor...double bag it, like I do your mom. So great!
