  • Review on the ultimate Lexus, the 2003 Lexus LS430. This has probably been the most requested review ever. I now understand the love for the Lexus LS430. It truly is one of the all time greatest luxury sedans. This big body Lexus is absolutely sublime and you would never know it had 172,000 miles on it. I didn't want to screw up this review so I did a voiceover but I promise to never forget my camera equipment again.

Well, normal schedule and style of review should resume soon. Hope you still enjoyed this 430 review because it was highly requested and I'm so glad I did review it. Special thanks to Westgate Imports for this opportunity. Definitely browse their inventory because it is pretty amazing and will give you an idea of what I will do next. Few surprises are still in the works otherwise. Thank you for watching.

I'd really love to see a review from you of an es330 in comparison to the Ls430.They call them baby LS's, but who knows🤷‍♂️. It would be a rare comparison, because they are obviously on different levels. But a review from you would be great!

Thank you very much sir. Much appreciated, I have been studying good used cars. I'm desperately in the need of a good quality vehicle. I want to jump on one of these. Yet I'm worried about that air suspension. Idk if you have a video for 05-06 Lexus ES330. Also looking for the nicest model Acura TL and TSX. What do you think about the 04-05 Honda Civic EX?? Better yet other than Toyota and Honda. What would be a great year model car/suv for 5G?? Ugh.. My heads spinning looking.

I have a 2002. Bought from a Lexus dealer in 2015 with 74k miles. This car is built impeccably which explains its resistance to ageing. With 100.5k on the clock currently, the only repair bill I have had as of today, is for the air conditioning system. Surprisingly and fortunately, it was not the air-compressor that failed (which could have costed thousands). It was a simple $200 fix including system recharge and diagnosis at the dealer. Another common, minor problem is the failure of door actuators but actually you only need to invest $10 on a motor and have it installed back to your original actuator. The process is a little troublesome but this is actually what the service advisor recommended to do (don't tell anyone haha). If that had to be done at the dealer, it could have costed $600 for a brand new door actuator and labour.
Every ride the car gives is incredibly quiet and as smooth as silk. Unlike the 460s (which I have a 2010 and 2015), you don't even know if the engine is running unless the car is motion. Although the pedal is not as sensitive as the 460s, the car can still catch speed pretty well. You are so well-isolated from the road that it is not uncommon to perceive travelling at 40 mph while in fact, the car is cruising at highway speed. All windows are perfectly sealed which results in no wind noise (a disaster in the early 460s). The leather are also of top quality with only a few "cracks" despite the age (another disaster for pre-2010 models which Lexus offers replacement at no cost to you =)). My car is loaded with ML but they are still functional (the amp failure as you mentioned, is about a $1k fix). LS 430 is probably the most reliable and elegant car ever in history! The only complain if I had to give one - it is very easy to fall asleep on interstates since the car is too comfortable LOL

Should’ve found a ultra luxury spec I love mine. Headlight washers, radar guided cruise control, dual pane glass, soft close doors, navigation system with built in climate/audio, rear seat massage, rear seat cooler, rear seat power recline and hvac controls. Also the air ride system a lot of people give grief but buy a air controller for it and lower it an inch so it’s less stress on the bags and they’ll last 20+ years

The 05 and 06 models are the best cars Toyota ever made with the exception of the Land Cruiser before they put a 4 cam V8 in it starting in 1998 with the J100. The later LS430s had a 6 speed transmission and modern touches like LED tail lamps with better styling. The 04 models had transmission problems and are best avoided. The Custom Luxury trim level is the most rare and desirable one. The had the Mark Levinson audio and nav, leather on the doors and dash, smart cruise control, and with black interior you got exclusive burned effect wood that looked stunning. Ultra Luxury trim had the rear massage seats and fridge but the air suspension fails and runs over a grand in parts alone for each air strut. Conversion to metal springs runs about $2,500 in parts and labor. I have owned 3 LS430s and loved them. The problem areas are minor. The cup holders are notorious for breaking, the hood supports fail prematurely, the power mirror controls fail, the parking brake handle in all colors but black will discolor, the subwoofer on the ML audio models goes bad, and as you said the wood on the steering wheel cracks. These are all mostly DIY fixes you can handle for cheap. It’s sad these beautiful cars are now dropping well under $10K and getting into the hands of people who are using them as beaters. Like other Toyotas they will run for decades as junkers but they are not appreciated by the typical used car buyer.

So much great information glad to have you stop by my friend. Yea these things are amazing and I think a lot of people do appreciate them but the people who buy them don’t. @@Mabeylater293 Yea the 5 speed in this I drove with 173,000 miles felt perfect. The 6 Speed mainly is just a very nice improvement. The 8 speeds in the 07-12 460s feels a bit clumsy. I'm beyond impressed with these 430s

I test drove a previously loved LS430. It was the nicest ‘Camry’ that I have ever been in. After that experience, I went out an purchased a 2001 E38 (BMW 740i w/ M-Sport pkg). I loved it. However... That BMW drained my bank account, specifically my savings. What a stupid mistake I made. BMW’s are truly wonderful to own, BUT it will cost you the price of a used LS430 to maintain ($6,000 transmission alone). My advice....? ... if you can find a LS430/460 .... BUY it and you will not regret it. The LS430 is truly as good ‘He’ (the reviewer) ... claims. Get one while you can. Thanks for the video.

Thanks for sharing, As a Birthday present to myself I was thinking about getting a LS460 and NOW I'm having second thoughts. I do own a 2003 LS430 and love that car. Trust me I wasn't going to get rid of my LS430 if I decided to get the LS460 I was going to give it to my Dad. That my way of keeping her still around. My first Lexus was the LS400 a 95 and I like it, but when I saw the LS430 it was love at first sight. You're right about everything, that car handles beautifully. What's making it so hard for me to commit to just going out and get the 460 is the rear. It's something about the rear of the 460 that flat out turn me off.
That's the FIRST time the I like everything about the a car inside and out and soon as I look at the rear of it, it turns me off. I'm really thinking if I decide not buy the 460, I was thinking about changing my front bumper and replacing it with a aftermarket more aggressive style low profile bumper.
So many things to think about.
The only way that I would give up my 430 quick, If I could stumble across any 2004-06 LS430 L.
THANKS for reviewing this car or in some case my car, now I'm sitting back and really thinking about should I go after the 460 and it's not looking so good.

Haha not a problem my friend if I were you, I would honestly maybe look for a 2004-2006 LS430 knowing what I know now, I would not buy the 460. Really the only advantage the 460 has is it’s slightly bigger which is not a big deal and it has a 100 more hp. But I actually would rather have the 430s V8 instead it’s crazy but true the smoothest engine I’ve ever experienced

We have both. Pluses and minuses to each. But at the end of the day, a Base/Premium facelifted LS430 is immortal, whereas a a 460 is just damn good.

Hahahahaha 😂 no ones ever asked me like that before damn. Um usually I would take price into consideration so in that case ls430 for sure and again it was difficult me because this ls430 has 172k miles on it but if the 460 might be my overall pick I think if it came with some nice tires. If money really wasn’t an object I would take the 2013-17 ls460 f sport loved how that drove but again it’s only this hard because I had a bullet to my head 😂 I love them all 😍

Lexus perfected the LS vehicle between 2004 through 2006 model years. I own a 2004 Lexus LS430 medium luxury package. It has 152,000 miles on it, but I have no desire or reason to change it. It is not Camry or Corolla reliable, but it is still damn reliable. Even after nearly six years of ownership, this vehicle brings a smile on my face every time I sit in it. The newer generations have gone downhill. 2013 through 2017 model years were pretty good, but LS500 is a joke. My next vehicle will be the 2013 through 2017 LS460 or most likely S550. Lexus has killed this vehicle, and sales numbers speak for themselves.

Yea the LS430 is about as reliable as it gets for luxury cars, I haven’t driven the new LS500 but I really want to.
      I love the 2013-2017 it’s basically the 07-12 460 but perfected

A F A What’s the best highway MPG you’ve been able to reach?
My LS400 will flirt with 30 mpg if I don’t go over 70 mph, and there’s no wind.
I want the bigger trunk, wondering if the fuel economy is much better with the 430.

I just bought a 2001 Lexus LS430 with 138,000 miles for $1000! It does need some work, power window for driver side and those pesky control arms. Got lifters for hood on Amazon for $29. Looking forward to driving it to 300000 miles plus.
