Guys, when you change the rotors ALWAYS clean the rust from the hub, it should be super smooth. Put some antiseize too. If the hub is rusty the rotor could cause vibrations and weird things can happen
Could not agree any more. Additionally, in case of vibration problems worth to check the hubs running by a micrometer. Sometimes the hub has some wigle, ask Lexus about the tolerance. But if you have more than .05 - .08mm than definitely worth to check further. Anyway after a couple of thousand miles the truth will be unfold: if the vibration is occure again than it is not coming from the disc and the pads.
That and clean the packing oil off of the rotor. I'm sure you guys did this but a bunch of noobs will watch this video, put on a new rotor straight from the box and contaminate their pads, guaranteed.

Yeah, is a very common oversight for the home-gamer. Leads to pulsation and come backs at shops. I hope this was cleaned up off camera but seeing rust through rotor around the studs isn't a good sign.
The problems you describe are symptomatic of bad front lower control arm bushings. I had the shake under braking on my LS430 and it was resolved by new bushings. They are oil filled and if cracks form the oil leaks out and give you the symptoms you describe. You can see them from under the car without having to take anything off.
Biggest problem with this sport sedan battle is that.... one needs to be turned into a sports sedan first! Can't wait to see how it's done though, gonna be an epic journey for sure.

It's great you guys are testing the suspension and brakes right after install. Helps to show the progress that's being made with the build. Looking forward to seeing more.
You should clean your hub matting surfaces up so they are spotless, all that corrosion can cause brake wobble and make it hard to get the disc’s off. Use a wire wheel and flap wheel on the hubs, when clean use some Permatex zinc anti seize or ceramic grease between the hub and the disc and between the disc and the wheel. 👍
I recently went with AIRBAGS on my LS430 and instead of using Spring coil over set up, we did use a NEW struts and placed the bellow bags and it rides amazing
Pro Tip for removing the shocks on a double-wishbone cars: As you see, the vertical arm that goes from the hub to the upper ball joint is very close to the strut/spring. Turning the wheel all the way left or right moves the arm away just enough to easily remove the strut/spring.
Loving this build👌I’d recommend inspecting the lower control arm bushings. They are a common wear point on these, and could contribute to vibration under braking loads. Also improves the steering feel slightly.
absolutely. I have one of these cars. Had to replace mine when I bought it due to a previous incident where the hub and bushing were replaced on one side. The original side was super sloppy on my 150k mile car. Some people say theirs are fine at that mileage but mine was loose and visibly had significant movement. I put new OEM ones from an IS on mine with the aluminum housing. You could also use RC GS or RCF or ISF bushings. They all fit you just have to remove the dished washer. Figs and RR Racing make upgraded ones for the track. They are generally marketed towards the IS but fit the GS and LS
@@vr6myk Good info! I've heard the IS ones would fit right in, but I wasn’t 100% sure. Did you notice any improvements/benifits from using the IS bush vs. the LS? @@MkdMuzza other than getting the slop out, no. Cons would be more NVH. The stock LS bushings are built for comfort.

If you can feel the pulsation while braking predominantly in the steering wheel, the front rotors are the culprit. If you can feel the pulsation in the seat, it's out back. If you can feel it in both, well, you know the story. Also, Dave's on point. SLA suspension blows Macpherson outa the water. All about that camber gain setup.
I have the 04 ls 430. The brakes are good still. However, when I run over pot holes and small holes in the ground at around 15 mph, I hear rattle coming from the front left/right area of the vehicle. Not sure if it's the brake hardware or suspension components in the front (ie. Front strut bar or strut mount). Also, when I step on the brake lightly, the rattle does not happen. Not sure what is up?
Good change the vibration whilst braking is due to all the rust on the mating surface of the hub. Get a wirebrush and remove all that rust, and put a bit of anti-seize on the hub before you put the rotor on.
If you don't clean the rust off the front hub surface you can still have vibrations even with new brake components. If it continues to pulsate then clean that hub surface. It really is a critical step in a proper brake job.

Now i LOVE this body style of LS but i can't help but wonder if the 3rd generation GS350 or 430 would've been better suited to take on the M5. I am loving this series and look forward to see how this progresses.
Those calipers are in fact, bad to the bone! I put a set on my LS swapped 944 along with a BMW hydroboost system (it's a long story) and on the end of a straight they will pop the rear end up and get squirrely, even with 300 lbs springs up front. Looking to correct that issue with stiffer springs and perhaps some brake bias adjustment, however, point is those monoblock 4 pistons are cheap to run, with large piston diameters, great thermal properties and they indeed stop well.
I really wish you would clean the rust off the hubs when replacing the rotors. Not doing it could cause a vibration and could cause the rotor to seize to it.
I noticed you guys did not do a bed in procedure on the brakes. Did you mention that this does not need to be done if it's just a daily driver. I thought the bed-in procedure always had to be done? I am interested in your opinion on this, thank you
I've had 2 of these - 2001 and 2004 and loved them. Have replaced a number of front rotors to get rid of vibration - my guess from what I've read is that is was transfer of some pad material to the rotors. Pads were always good and rotors not warped at all (checked with gauge). WORST thing I ever did was replace all 4 struts and upper mounts with recommended Monroe oem equivalent - they lowered the car just enough that the tires caught the front fender openings from time to time!! Awful.

Could you guys check the link leading to the website for Rotors and Pads...tried several time on two diff devices and the webpage never loads and gives an error script...? TIA
Now i LOVE this body style of LS but i can't help but wonder if the 3rd generation GS350 or 430 would've been better suited to take on the M5. I am loving this series and look forward to see how this progresses.
you shpuld get some vibrant streetpower mufflers with the four inch tips on the LS
I can't wait you guys to start detailing the LS
Wheel cribs saved my life 👍 I use 6x of them. One for each wheel, one under each sil
How the heck do you not clean the rust off the mating surface of the spindle .???
How does your cribbing work on the wheels? Does the cribbing have dowels?
Keep the Lexus LS430 family growing!!! Shout out from Zee Channel 😊😊
Aren't those brake rotors facing the wrong way? Shouldn't the vanes be pointing backwards?
Been gagging for the next episode of this build, awesome content
Those calipers are in fact, bad to the bone! I put a set on my LS swapped 944 along with a BMW hydroboost system (it's a long story) and on the end of a straight they will pop the rear end up and get squirrely, even with 300 lbs springs up front. Looking to correct that issue with stiffer springs and perhaps some brake bias adjustment, however, point is those monoblock 4 pistons are cheap to run, with large piston diameters, great thermal properties and they indeed stop well.
Could anything be done to salvage those wheels or are they too far gone? It would be awesome to see them brought back to life.
ya, you can sand blast them and get them powder coated but they're still heavy stock wheels with bald tires
Simple refinish and they well be back to good as new
I really wish you would clean the rust off the hubs when replacing the rotors. Not doing it could cause a vibration and could cause the rotor to seize to it.
Rough roads ? You haven't been to Australia, have you ?
Make sure u cut a space in the strut tower. Your upper control arm will hit. You have to make clearance for it
Now that you have a nice ride height on there, some nice wheels will really set it off! Can't wait!
Hello I looked up the Fortune 500 series for my Lexus LS430 and they are $1300.00 can you recommend a different brand that will give me a smooth ride.
The M5 rear shocks are also under the rear deck. Back seat, seat belts, speakers and deck out!!
Awful.
I bought a 2007 ES350 from Los Angeles and brought it to Detroit. It will stay in the garage and will be allowed to go out when the roads are clean.
Cleen the matings surface on the hub before putting disc on🤦
