и.... возвращайтесь! 🥰🌸🌺🌸

    I love how the kitchen turned out. The layout is perfect to me, it opens the kitchen to the rest of the space. The refrigerator on the other side doesn't bother me at all either. I think the fridge on the other side is very practical. If you are taking fruit and veg out all you have to do is move sideways and place them on the counter by the sink where you're going to wash them. It also means someone can go to the fridge and get something to drink or eat without interrupting the cook. Also the microwave is on the fridge wall, so something coming out of the freezer can be nuked very handily. The peninsula also keeps little kids out of the hot, dangerous zone. Also, they can take milk or lunch fixings out of the fridge and put it all together themselves safely there on that side of the sink counter. If you are taking meat out of the fridge, you want to put in on the sink counter where you can prep it on one of the boards stored next to the window and be right by the sink so you can wash your hands and the board after transferring the prepped meat to the stove side for cooking. All in all, a smart, practical, and safe design.

      @@michelepaccione8806 If you look at the overview of the kitchen at 1:18 the fridge measurement is too wide to fit next to the stove. And yes, they could have gotten a narrower fridge, but the old fridge was also a double door so (this is an assumption on my part) the clients may have requested a double door fridge. Also, there's a solid wood beam running above the stove, so they'd have to take that away but I'm assuming it was structural like the one in the guest bathroom so they had to keep it.
      I'm sure her team spent a lot of time trying to figure out the ideal layout with the limitations the space presented.

    Lots of comments on the kitchen layout! First rule of design...Forms follows function! This is predominantly a weekend chalet with more than one family group staying. The two major zones are perfect for having a cook on one side and helpers (or watchers with a drink in their hand!) on the other. Keeping extra people away from the range while it’s in use is makes sense regarding safety. Post meal, the clean up person can rinse the dishes and load the dishwasher while helpers on the other side can dry the hand washing. Walking a few extra steps to the fridge isn’t a major problem for me especially as this isn’t intended as a use everyday kitchen. Great job, Sarah!!

  • @seaside2001
    @seaside2001 5 ปีที่แล้ว +54

    Looks pretty, but I personally hate island sinks. The island is always a mess. The fridge position wouldn't work for me either. I would be running around this kitchen as nothing is to hand. Everybody has different priorities, but this layout would not work for me. I have used a down draft gas range and the big drawback to them is that the flame draws downward as well and it takes ages for pots to heat up and cook. a small microwave under the counter does not work well either. If the owners are happy, that is all that matters.

    • @seaside2001
      @seaside2001 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@rickgeller6043You are right and the layout with the non island peninsula is a pain to work in. lousy design for functionality.

  • @Siansonea
    @Siansonea 5 ปีที่แล้ว +21

    Obviously the kitchen is beautiful, but I still don’t know if the layout really grabs me. Mind you, I am not a person who cooks or otherwise interacts with a kitchen if I can possibly avoid it, I mainly go into my kitchen to dust and check the time on the stove. But this layout kind of feels like two kitchens side by side, and it almost feels like you have to leave one kitchen to get to the other, and people might bump into each other a lot if they’re working together. Of course, maybe the layout is actually a good thing. Maybe the person on the fridge side is doing prep while the person on the stove side is cooking? I don’t know how all that works. But it’s undeniably beautiful, so it qualifies as a home run regardless.

    As a naturally untidy person, the kitchen would never look as good as it does now! I love the island sink, my mother had one on the end of a peninsula at a house we had in England. It was fantastic to use. The stove was opposite one side it, making it easy to empty/fill pots. My mother designed the kitchen herself, much to the dismay of the architects involved with the renovations. By the end of it, they adored it. Today it would be ordinary but in 1977 it was amazing.

  • @ginakhonje825
    @ginakhonje825 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I find it a bit funny that many people are so hung up on walking around a peninsula. This is a small kitchen. In many homes a person might have to take many more steps to move between their fridge and stove than one would here. Walking around something might seem like a mental barrier but really, in this small space, it's a few steps. I think it's far more important to have maximum prep space and good storage as it sounds like this is a home for entertaining. Sarah is a good designer who says she also loves to host and entertain. This is well thought out.

    • @ytubechannel997
      @ytubechannel997 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you not find it bizarre that to walk around the peninsula from the sink or stove to the fridge that you have to leave the tile floor surface and walk on hardwood and then move back to tile? It is like you have to go into another room (i.e. the hall) to get from one part of the kitchen to another.

    Came out wonderful Sarah, Chris, the Painter & wallpaper guru guy (sorry I don’t know your name 😳), the whole team & Maurizio Bertato (Invisirail). the only thing I would have added with this kitchen layout, was a drawer refrig on the right side of the stove. This way you have some everyday items right next to the stove to quickly grab when cooking. The bar area looks absolutely amazing and a great addition to keep everyone out of the kitchen when cooking...absolutely love love love the glass stair railing in this house💜. The stairs are the best feature of this remodel (not that the rest doesnt look amazing). The stairs now look like they fit perfectly into the home & give a feeling of much more space in the whole home.

    I never thought I would see Sarah make a mistake in a kitchen, let alone make 3: 1- Fridge is too far from the cooking area, 2- 11/2 sinks suck! You can’t do anything with the small side ( I know, I’m stuck with one), 3- microwave, too low. Annoying to have to bend to figure out mins. Love the backsplash though.

    Great job on maximizing counter and storage space!! Looks lovely!
    Still not sold on having to walk around through the traffic zone to get to the fridge and microwave. Feels pretty inconvenient. I likely would have thought about keeping a similar layout to what they had but with an island instead of peninsula and really maximized the storage on the fridge wall. Would keep prep traffic within the kitchen and seating/visitors on the other side. I’m guessing they’ll find when guest are over they will stand at the end of the peninsula anyways, blocking off the only route to the fridge.
    But maybe when you’re actually in the kitchen this layout works great!!

    I think a few weeks of using the kitchen would easily calm any nerves about the layout.
    It’s clear, before cooking you would get everything you need from the fridge first & then begin. Of course I’ve moved into homes w crummy kitchens so I know how to eventually get efficient with how things work. If entertaining or getting down to putting a huge meal out someone else is normally there in the kitchen w me so asking for milk for the roux or mashing potatoes should work.
    My husband and I are working out a layout for an addition to our home but a currently too small dining room would become a too large empty space & it has been making me crazy! Putting in a wet bar would be a welcome addition as I could put all drinks (water, milk, pop etc) there so no one would need in the kitchen for beverages while getting the last of the food to the table. And in my kitchen, a bit of breathing room is needed!
    And I’m a lover of white kitchens and marble so I love it! And as we’re discovering, when you have made due w the old, anything fresh & new is an immediate improvement.

  • @EEN63

    At first I was concerned about the placement of the fridge and having to basically leave the kitchen to go back to the other side of the kitchen. But after some thought, this is a very shallow kitchen and there aren’t any more steps you would take in a large kitchen with a center island. Love, LOVE the backsplash and love that you chose stainless hardware, but then I’m sort of over the huge contrast of black hardware on light cabinetry... but that’s just my preference.
    I’m afraid budget was the issue but I always like my upper cabinets to go to the ceiling. One, I don’t need an extra space to collect dust. Two, you can never have enough storage space. But with the parameters, beams, budget, etc. I’m assuming custom cabinetry was not an option.
    My favorite is definitely the transformation of the staircase! WOW! Such a drastic difference for the better! Great job all around!

    Sarah, Have you ever seen the cabinet style refrigerator and freezer In Canada or the states? I've only seen them in Europe and i one apartment here in California. They literally are the size of kitchen cabinets. I get this lay out and think it probably works for how ski and summer weekends work. People can get in the frig, get coffee, use the microwave on one size without getting in the cook's way on the other. Just have to be a bit of an organized cook and carry what is needed out to the island counter ie mis en place. I can't tell you how much I love this chalet! I just want to know what you did with the loft!

      Hey Gibson Girl! I'm so glad you loved the chalet and the kitchen! Did you watch the rest of the Chalet episodes? I believe the loft is featured briefly.

    I appreciate this design isn't for everyone but the vitriol is unsettling. People...this isn't a commercial kitchen. It's a vacation home. Typically that's a place with a lot of action around the kitchen so having two areas of ingress and egress and keeping most activity within those areas avoids traffic jams in the hallway. I would ask those of you so bothered by the refrigerator placement to take notice of how often you REALLY are opening the refrigerator during the actual cooking process. Even if it's 2-3 times how much TIME are we talking about to move around the counter? Three seconds? Five? Is this really something to be annoyed about? I love the tile, stools tucked under the counter, lighting and the bigger window. Removing that beam is everything! This is a fresh, modern design fit for an upscale family vacation home! Lovely!!!!

      Suzanne Hansen Definition of vitriol - cruel and bitter criticism.
      People are simply stating their opinions. Opinions that Sarah often asks for. She’s a terrific designer. I’m pretty sure she can handle the criticism. For some reason you’re probably bothered more than she is.

    • @suzannehansen1854
      @suzannehansen1854 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@fen6904 While we agree she's a terrific designer, you and I differ on whether the criticism leveled at her is appropriate. Yes, I am bothered - bothered by the sense of entitlement some individuals exercise in commentary. There is a difference between useful feedback and being rude. One calling the design stupid and many others have ripped it to shreds. In the video Sarah goes to great lengths to explain the reasoning behind the design and the thought that went into it. None of the negative comments address those. While everyone is entitled to their own opinion conversely they don't always need to be aired publicly. What purpose do they serve other than their own egos? Our society seems to focus on the negative - particularly on the web where we can spout ugliness without any regard as to how it will affect the person(s) being spoken about. I would hope that Sarah has thick skin when it comes to the internet horde but really is that what we need her to be? Calloused to the hater hoard? I'd much prefer to celebrate what I love and scroll past the designs that aren't my faves.

      Suzanne Hansen omg not sure why I’m replying but here goes. After this I’m done. People are expressing their dislike for ONE kitchen. A lot of us probably subscribe to Sarah’s channel. You want to know why I subscribe? Because I freaking love Sarah’s work. I own her books. I follow her on social media. I watch anything and everything of hers on hgtv. I love her work, her personality, her cute family. I think her and tommy are fantastic together. I dislike one kitchen. Get over it. I’m sure she has. ✌🏼

    Sarah, I must say it looks very beautiful but it’s going to be very awkward I think for the cooks to walk around out of the kitchen through the hallway and back into the other side of the kitchen to reach the refrigerator in the extended area of the kitchen. the peninsula just doesn’t seem to work in my mind.

    I agree the layout is unusual, but one commenter pointed out some good advantages for independence of young kids etc. Good food for thought. If it were me though, I think I would have made the island a bit shorter. Yes it means losing a touch of workspace, but it would mean not having to go as far into the narrow hall to get to the fridge, and not having the lower cabinet stick out of the kitchen onto the hall floor either. Otherwise, totally beautiful!

  • @SallyWallach

    Late to this party, but I love the refrigerator placement. A kitchen that will be used by lots of people is a kitchen that has lots of people getting snacks and drinks at all hours. Much better for the cook to create a mise en place on the peninsula--easy from the fridge as located--and then to actually cook in an area free of snack foragers.

    The kitchen looks great. It's very bright and airy. That said, I feel cutoff from the refrigerator with the peninsula in the center of the kitchen. You have to walk around it to get to the refrigerator. It's like it's two kitchens. Granted, I wouldn't turn it down if you gave it to me for free but in general it's not my favorite layout. Keep up the good work.

    I think you did great with you had to work with. There's tons of storage and it looks great. I don't think people realize that this is a small and narrow space. If you hadn't designed it this way, storage would be compromised and honestly if the owners love it too, that's all that matters.

    LOVE. IT! Maybe I cook weird, but I always gather all the fridge ingredients in one swoop so I don't have to go to the fridge a second time. But if you do, it's like 5 feet away... Not that far (in my opinion). But that's just me.

    Great job as usual Sarah. I really like it. The tiles are lovely and definitely correct choice with hardware. My comments are about the change of floor and cupboards in the bar area. Both floors are beautiful I just wondered with the placement of the island making the kitchen so open and not masking a change of floor, did you consider keeping the same floor? What kinds of things do you factor into those decisions? Also for my tastes the two cupboards above the bar area seem a bit heavy, I would possibly have gone with just the shelf, did the clients want a lot of storage?
    Also laughing that it’s considered a small kitchen. It’s easily three times the size of mine. 🤗

    I think the fridge placement would work for me if there was also an undercounter fridge on the work side to store items needed for actual cooking. The main fridge opposite could then be used for wine, juices, snacks, fruit and so on. Guests and kids could grab what they want while the cook still has easy access to ingredients for meal prep. Without that add'l appliance I just don't think it could work. That range is nice, tho - very clever!
