- 4 months ago, we had a dark and dated ski chalet on our hands... and today it's fabulous and fresh and totally transformed! Are you ready to see the last two and most dramatic makeovers of the Contemporary Chalet? This renovation included 1 kitchen, 3 baths, 4 bedrooms, laundry room, mudroom, media room, bar, and lower hall, and now we're about to reveal the hub of the chalet. Plus, the Normerica team is stopping by to reflect on the transformation since they originally built the chalet in the 80's. What a treat!

Oh my, I had to stop watching and make a comment. I have watched endless videos over the years about home designs but this is the first where I have seen the original designer/builder come and see the reno/redecorating. But, what really touched me was how you were able to respect his vision, maybe without even realizing it, and making him so happy with your design. Maybe I'm a sentimental fool but this is what design is all about for me!!! I'm going to share this with my son-in-love who is a builder, in Northern Ontario, to encourage him. ❤️❤️❤️
The original builder (dad) was so sincerely happy and proud. I enjoyed that.

Oh my goodness - the final chapter is absolutely gorgeous. You and your team have done such a wonderful job bringing this chalet back to life and giving it soul. I loved seeing the father/son combo building guys again. They look pretty wowed by what you have done also. You will be swamped with interior design business from them I think. Congratulations Sarah & Team!! Fantastic job. I loved this home renovation...the best part was the “Cowboy Ottoman” prank!! 👏😜LOL, so funny! Great team work to pull that prank off LOL. Loved that the home builder stopped by & gave a history of the home. Loved the reverse floor plan for the day views especially for a ski home, you can come in, drop off your ski outfit & boots then go right to your room take a shower & then join the part upstairs and not drag in your wet close up stairs. I really liked the builder & his son, seem like good guys. And this, home after 34 years really does look amazing. The beams seemed to be a lot but, now they have been tone down and really do make a great architecture element to this home. Without them, the house bones would look plain. I’m glad you did not paint the upstairs ceiling...it’s really a WOW factor for your design & furniture.

I stopped watching HGTV because they only show on are “flip house” shows that are plain, boring and all look the exact same😥. No more garden shows on HGTV channel & no more true interior designers like Sarah & Candice. So it so wonderful that you both share your home remodels.

No, Sarah, you didn’t do a “good job”...you did an unbelievably astounding, creatively awesome job!!! You (and talented crew) brought a dim, cave of wooden gloom into the now of light livability and comfort accessibility to which families now yearn. Bravo for your gutsy vision for what this Chalet needed to bring it into a more contemporary, practical living space for years and years to come! Sarah - your furniture is AMAZING. I'm impressed (but not surprised) by the thoughtfulness and creativity in each design and fabric. These two rooms are the crowning achievement in an incredible transformation. Fabulous. Painting the walls and columns and keeping the furniture color palette soft and relatively monochromatic really makes the ceilings pop! And the glass railings just makes it so modern. It's so welcoming while also being dramatic.

Lovely to see the original builder back and to have be so supportive... for me the view coming up the stairs is fantastic and I love the railings! What was done with the little loft area over the kitchen?
Lake Lili I was wondering the same thing. The ladder was painted white, but was it changed otherwise? It would make great storage, at least.

It’s all very beautiful. My favorite part is the white staircase supports that draw your eye up to the ceiling. The glass was an amazing choice for the railings. I love that the original builder got to see it.

Love this series and being able to watch you in the U.S. The chalet is so bright and fresh --nice that you removed the mullions and did a glass stairway enclosure. I love the colors as well, BUT I have to say that after being out on the slopes or doing snow sports all day , I'd like to come home to a chalet with some warmer touches as opposed to all white, gray and blue.
I love it!! Painting out the lower sections and leaving the gorgeous ceiling unpainted, it makes the ceiling so much more spectacular!! The colour way is all me and I will take inspiration from this for a much smaller space we're moving into, 895sq ft : )) Great job and kudos to your team for keeping the boot ottoman, priceless!! The furniture is amazing. I love the rounded ends of the chaises!

They best visual for me was the use of glass on the stairway. It transformed the way I look through the space from one side to the other. This is another triumph for you and your team. I’m sure the builder took away from design concepts following his meeting with you.

You did yourself proud! The chalet looks amazing! One of the most interesting things was hearing from the builder from so many years ago and getting his perspective! I think he was in awe of the fantastic transformation but still keeping the structure and a part of his original vision relevant. The great ceiling height becomes even more evident because you left the natural wood tone. I think I probably voted to paint it all, but you made it even more of a feature by just painting the bottom parts.
I love all of the soft and subtle colors. It gives a sense of relaxation and a soothing level of comfort, but light and bright enough to feel crisp, clean and spacious too. The show-stopper and most transformative is the stairway! Well done all around. I’m especially excited for you and your new line of furniture!! I could get very comfy there and not want to leave! The entire chalet is really fantastic! Great job, team Sarah!

Spectacular! I wasn’t sold on not painting the ceiling out but you painted the tall beams over the stairs and there is something very ethereal about them. Breath taking.
Loved that the original builder got to see a new take on an old project. It must be wonderful to know something you built from the ground up will be loved and lived in for many years to come. We see too many older homes being torn down (some do need to be scratched) for something new so knowing his work was respected and re-imagined in his lifetime must be very rewarding.

You know you rock when the original builder almost tears up seeing how magnificently you've transformed his vision. Clearly, you are fulfilling your purpose. Just seeing this, and I love how much the builder/architect was on board. I also think the color palate reminds me of what used to be called Swedish Modern as well as some older Swedish design books I have seen. And Ikea simplicity works with it very well.
