The harp player is wonderful.
I've heard this song a thousand times, and half that many different versions. I didn't realize that a harp player was missing from every version I'd ever heard until now. Alberto Manuel De La Rosa is phenomenal!!!
I at first glance thought it was Gabriel Garcia Marquez!
Yes indeed!
The original/ authentic version is always played with the harp. This song is Veracruz's unofficial anthem.

This is the spirit of music. I guess I'm an old softie, but it brings tears to my eyes.
When I was little I used to hear this song on a radio station in the Philippines and now I am already married to a half African half Filipino.
When I was young I heard it on a movie of the same name. Ironically with a Filipino playing a Latino.. Great movie and great song.

Just to add something more magical,
“ la Bamba” is folk song from Veracruz Mexico , which is where the video starts. It was transformed into the rock and roll version we all love by a Mexican American Ritchie Valen in Los Angeles California, which is where the singing starts. The song traveled all around the world and touched different cultures in different ways, which is what we see throughout the video.
Even more magical is the fact that it is almost 400 yrs old. About 367, from the 17th century, the 16 hundreds, something like that.
