I have this pen, and it is an excellent fountain pen and as you said, it feels expensive and well made. The nib is a surprise; being springy. I have the shiny chrome with the blue acrylic but I have been tempted by the dark chrome version. The filigree work is what makes THIS skeleton pen stand out from the rest. I do like the look of the D1 but keep telling myself I don't need TWO skeleton pens, do I? For some reason, the filigree work on the D1 looks like fleur-de-lis. I would be very happy to see you revisit your other pens. The weather is cooler here in my area, as well. Such a relief. Until you specified, I would have guessed the ink to be Kyanite du Nepal. I could see the shimmer.
Ink was a mix that worked better than expected. Skeleton pens are interesting. Lighter than all metal, visually more interesting than just acrylic. When they write as well as the A6, a win win.
Thanks, Chris, for reviewing this again. I bought mine after your initial review.. also because if it's design aesthetics based on an Art Deco theme... at least, that's how I see it.
Hi Chris! Very interesting this review that highlights a sort of evolution in the design of the Hongdian D1. I would have also pointed out the Hongdian A7 in stabilized wood. I will add the Dami Wonka TY001 that I have already received: a magnetic assembly fountain pen with a #3 nib. Thanks for everything!
I have not heard of the A6. It seems like it performs well, save for that gap which I have experienced on other pens. Aside from the filigree of the body, the great thing is the soft nib which was a pleasant surprise on my D1. Hopefully this will continue with their #8 nib. Thanks for returning to the A6. I will have to consider getting this model. The pattern on the body is great.
Loved the video Chris, it certainly looks like a nice enough pen. My desk is beginning to look like yours!! I recently acquired a Jinhao 911, and a Hero 565. Both pens have a hooded nib. The 911 only comes in EF, and I got to say it is one of the best Chinese EF nibs if ever written with!! The 565 is kind of reminiscent of a Parker 51, but it has more girth. I got it with a Fine nib. I don't suppose you have any experience with either one??
I've done many videos on these pens. I too enjoy them. For me the hooded nib on the Wingsung 601s & 618s are my favorites. Jinhao 51a a close 2nd. With Bobby nib, the best. th-cam.com/video/BWrEv-gR46Q/w-d-xo.html
0:50 That's a busy desk indeed. I have a question, maybe you could help. I bought the Hongdian A9. I like the pen and like nib. The issue is the barrel, it's way too slippery. I am not comfortable using the pen, rolls in my fingers and afraid to drop it. Any tips or tricks?? I would love to be able to use this pen. Thanks in advance Mr. CR.
The A9 is more slippery than the N10 which has a similar finish. I didn't notice the A9 was that slippery until you mentioned it. The finish is unique. You might try washing in soapy water. Any other methods I can think of might effect the finish. Hope you can eventually enjoy the pen.

Wonderful review! I’m really learning to appreciate skeleton pens!
I really like the look of the D1
The D1 is well worth getting.

Thanks for watching. There are so many "NEW" pens. Very tempting.
The dark chrome does look good, and I love the design.

Glad to add to your pen experiences. Soft Chinese nibs! Who would have predicted?

I don't understand why sometimes you think you get too many pens...
Keep enjoying it!
Exactly! I say that so I will enjoy what I have & not what I don't have.

@@chrisrap52 Thanks, I will try that.
I have the D1, and find the edges of the metalwork to be unfcomfortably sharp. Is this one smoothed out at all on the edges?
I don't feel any sharp edges.
@@chrisrap52 awesome, this might be my next pen then, thanks!
