DJI FPV RANGE TEST - How Far Can it Actually Go?

  • Testing the range on the new DJI FPV. One of the biggest upsides of the new DJI FPV has to be the range and connection - which in paper is 10km. In this video I take the drone out and put it to the test

Looks like an awesome place to visit (I've never been there). I'm sure you know but for others... *watch those winds!* You could have a great tail wind pushing you out (while flying away)..but remember you will have to fight that wind coming back (returning to you), which could chew up a ton of battery. Always error on the side of caution when windy. Enjoy the rest of your travel! Watching your very early FPV videos pushed me to get into FPV so thanks for that by the way!

    Hi Danny,
in case you intend to perform a really REALISTIC long range test:
    (1) Avoid humid environment (atmospheric water vapour is absorbing your signals). Best would be semi-arid areas (Colorado .. :-)
    (2) Select an environment that is free of obstacles (at 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz quite important).
    (3) Fly at altitudes of about 120 m or above
Otherwise; already well done ! !
My background: Physicist, phd and some 37+ yrs. in space industry

    • @daltonduree

    fair review,
    occusync is crazy good,
    the no flys are annoying.
I hit one and have no idea why,
it was over a golf course...
battery is heavy and weak. 2000mah for that weight it should be 3000mah.
it's just a heavy little bugger, but it gets going so it's not slow.
just got mine back from repair today,
hope the weather gets a bit nicer so I can take it back up.

Great reviews! Any thoughts on the drone having those roll jitters? Like you said in the previous video - doesn't seem like it'll be close to a Gopro+ReelSteady. Does it feel like it's more stable if you give it more throttle?

    • @drkastenbrot

Those jitters are a normal reaction to wind, and a proper gopro with rsgo will make the dji fpv footage look bad, in colors, details and in butter smooth stability.

regular fpv drones with tbs or other good system could go 40 Km , the problem is video feed but with a ground station you can do it no problem .the limit is battery but you can go way fare if you use a wing for example. I fly my long range drone at 3km no problem and you can set the return home like a dji if you install a gps. On diy lithium battery that cost about 40 euros to make i fly 18 min with my setup but if you do a proper build you can go even longer.

My furthest is 9.3km, full manual. Goiing slow doest get as much distance if these drones, I think because they are so heavy. Could probably get over 10kms, if I flew straight and turn around then come back again. 8 mins flight time. I have gotten 16mins before. But lowe speeds and not as much distance. These drones you need to pump it with thr speed then come back. The distance covered is way more than going slow.

If you continue to fly it right up until say 3-5% you can get a lot of extra time out of it. When I brought it back at 30% (like my first time flying) it had been going for just over 10-12 minutes, so that extra 30% would get you another 5-6 or so. Just depends on the RTH stuff.

DJI say 10km and you get 2... DJI say 20min and you get 10...
Just as an example I just flew with Fired FPV and he got 25minutes carrying a session 5 and in another video he went over 6km using just normal fpv goggles with a wildfire module and normal antennas. He used crossfire.
So... DJI... Stop lying to your customers about the specs.

Stop lying to people .... the only thing this drone can do and conventional fpv cannot is move the camera angle in mid-flight (which can also be but is not usual) in everything else an fpv drone conventional outperforms this drone in all respects.

  • @choppergirl

2000 meters is only 2km. Way less than 10km. The geofencing and plastic body is the deal killer.
That and you're locked into a DJI ecosystem where your controller won't work with any other quad, and your quad won't work with any other controller.
Sad that so many beginners are flocking to this drone and will probably get scr3w3d.

But you can't fly it miles and miles away, even 1/4 a mile before you lose line of sight. I get all you folks want to make a job of droning. But using an illegal activity(non line of sight flying) as a selling tools seems...odd. I'm just wondering not trying to be unpleasant I really do enjoy your channel.

Why are you doing range test on sport mode or manual mode like an idiot. That shorten the life of battery so significantly it will only last 10 minutes. If you are going to do battery test do it in normal mode. This was waste of time. Also you need a direct line of sight otherwise the trees that were RIGHT NEXT to you going to break up the signal. SO many wrong doings.

    • @Mcgeee
      @Mcgeee  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Well considering the whole point of the DJI FVP is to be an FPV drone - yeah, I flew in Manual mode. I mentioned that at the beginning of the video. Maybe you like to fly your FPV drone in normal tho? Also I did what I could with the test where I was - feel free to go test it yourself wherever you want lol
