    I want to point out that Alfas are not as problematic as many people think, even of this age. If we're talking about electrical faults then its Audis that suffer more but they still aren't bad either.

    Electrics hardly an issue. Check clutch as DMF expensive to replace, make sure belt/water pump been replaced recently, floorpans can rust and suspension made of cheese so check for knocks from ARB links and squeaky upper/lower arms.

    Had a 156 with the same engine. Utter joy to drive and pulls great, and I covered 1200km's on 1 tank (and that's driving it with a heavy ish foot) Adored the way it looked, drove and handled. Is by far the best handling car I've ever driven. Turns in like a go-cart and the steering gives you feedback of every little minor uneven bump in the road.
    Have to say that these cars are more likely to suffer issues with suspension and rust than electrics. Was sadly in a crash with mine where the lower wishbone snapped right off.
    Turns out mine had so much hidden rust that my right side was completley crumbled and made the car not even worth fixing.

    I really like this review. I heard good stories about this facelift Alfas, bulletproof Fiat diesel engines, good handling and quality ride. It is such a shame that they 10+ years old right now...

    Great video mate. I had one of these until 2015. Still regret selling it. I ran it from 60k to 130k. Problems? None. Apart from a glow plug light. I'm actually thinking of getting a late model jtd colezzione to replace my mini cooper, which drinks oil and is nothing but trouble. Like the video format too!

    I've ran one for 3 years. Solid engine that just pulls. Without the soundtrack but huge torque and responsive. Needs a bit of looking after, suspension can be a pain. I get 60mpg and power when I need it and it's cost me sod all.

  • @Dennell_Mount_and_Blade

    Cheers for the review, I'm considering to buy one of with this exact diesel engine. People think it's not that fast, but this diesel engine goes to 0-100 in 8,8 sec, with a bit of tuning 6 something wouldn't be impossible. And diesel engines are allot more stronger and reliable than petrol, at least when u buy high milage ones. There are almost no reviews for Alfa 147's that doesn't include the GTA version, and I havent found a good one for the diesel version except this one. Subbed!

      They raved about them actually. It's more jumping online and reading the stories about failing electrical connectors (what other car do you need to solder the connections because the factory connector is flaky?), plastic water pumps, suspension bushes made of cheese that wear out every 50,000miles, radiators and thermostats every 60,000miles et cetera that put people off buying a FWD-era Alfa Romeo TBH. The stories about the 75 & Alfetta are even worse and enough to make you buy a 1980's BMW instead, despite the better Busso engine of the Alfa. :/

    • @vinnyvasquez
      @vinnyvasquez 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, they joked about reliability problems and talked about cars from 25-30 years ago, when ALL cars were shit. It was lazy journalism.

    Why do people when reviewing Alfa go on about electrical problems ........ its not as common for an alfa to have electrical problems as say the French cars .....but no one mentions it ..............
    and the "alfa lifestyle" .......there are no more broken alfas than any other brands of car ........

    I love these, I owned a 16v diesel M-jet for 2 years and it was brilliant. Steering was incredible, super mid range and economical. Mine needed a new clutch but that wasn't badly priced. Of all the cars I've owned, my 147 is probably the one that surprised me most with just how good it was! 👍

    From the end of the 80s the electrical on Alfas hasn't been too bad electrically. My 2000 156 T.Spark hasn't had too much wrong with it. A corroded connection in the one tail light and a burnt out fan resistor is about the only thing I can remember doing. Overall a lovely car.

    You can't get a good 147 for 1000. It will knock and clunk and you will hate it. Spend 3-4000 and you really get a nice example. Electrics are fine, it's just a misconception. Front suspension arms are more prone to going bad tho

    I've had several Alfas including a 164, 156s, and now a 147, and despite the reputation (gained in the 180s and early 1990s) the electrics are no worse than most. I've had far more hassle with VWs when it comes to reliability. My current 147 JTD 16v has the same 150bhp lump as this one, and I'm getting 50+mpg average commuting on the Isle of Wight, which is better than anything else I've had with 4 wheels, even a 900 Cinquecento. The biggest problem I've had with the 147/156 is front suspension wishbone wear, which is very common.

  • @F1Oversteer
    @F1Oversteer 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Awesome car. Can be very reliable if serviced well and things like suspension sorted out. Loads of torque great engine and a double wishbone set up and no money. Who wants more?

    I almost bought a 1.6 T-spark this morning for £400! Still drove great, even with 145,000 miles on the clock! Everything worked too, all the electrics, other than a couple of sidelight bulbs having blown! That was showing 40mpg on the trip computer too, n that's a 1.6 petrol!!! Why didn't I buy it? The engine was tappety and a CV joint was knocking around roundabouts. Still a lot of car for a mear £400 though!

      The 159 is shit. Too heavy, horrible gearbox and they replaced the wonderful Alfa T.S 4cyl and Busso 6cyl engines with horrible GM-lumps. Get a proper 156 instead.

    • @MRFUCKOFF202
      @MRFUCKOFF202 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nakke144 is shit. The 159 is lighter than any equivalent German car, great gearbox, far nicer looking inside & outside than the 156 and it isn't a deathtrap like the 156.

    • @Nakke144
      @Nakke144 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's like saying someone is lighter than a fat person. Expensive German saloons are overweight as hell. The 159 was pretty shit when it was new, and it's completely shit these days. The manual gearboxes are sloppy and horrible and the automatics are shocking. The JTS-engines are completely gutless despite using a lot of fuel. The diesel engines are actually quite good, but the 1.9 is underpowered and the 2.4 makes the already shit handling car too nose-heavy. The 4wd version weighs as much, and drives like a boat and the GM V6 engine is shit. Not a good car, and never was.

    • @MRFUCKOFF202
      @MRFUCKOFF202 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So you expect mid-2000s practical somewhat luxury saloon cars with 5 star safety to weigh less than a Lotus Elise or something? Cars got heavier in the 2000s, you need to accept that and applying exclusive low weight targets to the 159 in order to criticise it.
      "The manual gearboxes are sloppy and horrible"
      What does this mean?
      I'll agree the petrol engines aren't technically good but they're enjoyable to drive at least. 1.9 is no more underpowered than any other rival diesel. I suppose if the 2.4 makes the "already shit handling car" (false) too nose-heavy then we should save anything above a 1.2 for mid-engined supercars. I mean, a C63 AMG is going to be much better balanced isn't it - what a piece of shit! You're just regurgitating the same nonsense the reviewers do.

    So what he's done is fit a straight pipe and egr delete and boost gage and then read the gage wrong because there's no way it's 42 psi 😂
    No remap so it's still slow 150bhp

    That Alfas are problematic is a hoax, they are as any other car if not maintained properly... things to be changed periodically without skipping should be the distribution and the whole clutch-flywheel kit, expensive, but it’ll keep you out of trouble
