The Big Wedding | Steel Magnolias (1989) | Now Playing
This wedding is so 80s I can't even. It's fantastic.
I know
Those Golden 80s 😢
Yes…a vomit of pink! 🤣🤣😵💫 I love this movie!
Yes. And 90s too. Reminds me of my eldest aunt's wedding. I was a flower girl then and only about 4 years old. And everything was pink. Us girls in the bridal party our dresses were pink lace. Even my uncle's wedding a few years later, where I was also a flower girl, very similar decor, except with gold. So nostalgic for back then
Weddings I went to in the 80s lasted for hours, with lots of food, open bar, and a live band for dancing.
it does look a teensy bit like pepto bismal
"The church looks like its been hosed down with Pepto Bismal."
"I like pink. Pink is my signature color."
My colours are Blush and Bashful
Her color is pink
Ya awful color 😂
My favorite color 2 my mom Call me up. God, rest your soul. I miss her every day said brandy. You have to watch this movie. Her favorite colors, pink too love. My mom love this movie. Love the cast forever special.
“Clairee, you know I’d rather walk on my lips than to criticize anybody, *BUT* …” still kills me. Only Dolly Parton could deliver shade like that and still be adorable.
What an amazing lady she is. Can you imagine the Bank she got off of I Will Always Love You. Then Sally Field's performance in Sybil would be the inspiration for Songs From The Big Chair by Tears For Fears because Sybil sat in a Big chair.
Did you hear about how Dolly crashed a Dolly Parton lookalike Contest and walked across the stage and another lady "won". I don't think she's going to do any more TV Movies about her life growing up after what Rick Schroder did with the Domestic Violence issue. Adele did the same thing where she disguised herself as a tribute singer and only after the fact did the ladies know it was her. One was a Drag Queen.😊
Genius
Janice Van Meter, aka the lady dancing without the girdle was played by the late great Nancy Parsons, aka Mrs. Balbricker in "Porky's".
@@TuscanMilkmaid She was such an underrated actress. Even her bit part in this movie was great.
I will never stop being tickled by the fact that this hairdo is considered "wearing my hair down, because Jackson likes it down."
In the South it's "The higher the hair, the closer to Jesus."
Get over it, Mama! 😂
Gravity did not stand a chance against that hairdo.
I love the fact that they were so warm and welcoming to Anelle, including inviting her to the wedding so she didn't feel left out.
I thought I was the only one who felt like that too. When My Sister got married we invited our Neighbors who felt a little out of place. They were one of the very few White Folks at the Wedding but by the end of the evening they had the time of their life even learning to do The Electric Slide.
Can you imagine how fun it must have been to be a "Extra" in this Movie. Dylan McDermott in my opinion never gets the credit he deserves. He plays Jackson Latree a Lawyer and a well dressed one, then he plays Peter in Party Monster, then of course on The Practice (The Sister Show Of Ally McBeal). I wonder if Daryl Hannah felt if she dodged a bullet by not marrying JFK Jr.
Also The Beauty Queen's Mother is so toxic. A real stage mother.
I actually really love Shelby’s dress, with the touches of pink. That was unusual for the time.
Make wedding dresses and bridesmaid dresses beautiful again!
Thee 80s were big on neon colors but they were also real big on pastel colors such as blush and bashful.
Shirley McClain's face at the beginning never fails to crack me up.
And when she said drum is a boil on the butt of humanity 😂
The armadillo cake is iconic.
I love it when Ouiser give drum the back end of the cake letting him know what she thinks of him and he just fires right back.
When you're from the deep deep south
I want an armadillo groom cake just like that one
" nothing like a good piece of ass"...😂😂😂😂
😂a bit creepy
This is mine and my mama's movie - she's been watching since she got pregnant with me in 1990, and I've been watching it with her since before I could talk. We quote this movie all the time and never get tired of watching it. My wedding is going to be early 2025 and my bridal shower is gonna be Steel Magnolias theme - blush and bashful, house wine of the South, and the blood-red armadillo groom's cake!
Love it! Hope it’s everything you want it to be!💗💗💗
Nice! Love it ❤
Sounds lovely!
That sounds amazing! I wish you much happiness with your new life
Same here. I'm only 21 but grew up watching this movie with my mom, we love it to pieces and cry every time we watch it. This movie is a classic. Best of luck with your wedding!!! It sounds like it will be absolutely wonderful!!!
Those hats 👒
No one mentions Daryll Hannah in this movie because her character wasn't as strong.
But she was excellent and deserves some recognition
"Looks like two pigs fightin' under a blamket" It's been 34 years since I first heard that line & it still cracks me up. I love Olympia Dukakis' role as Clairee, especially her banter with Ouiser (Shirley MacLaine). Everyone gave a stellar performance in this film, but those two are comedic gold! The funeral/cemetery scene is a roller coaster of emotions.
I first saw this movie as a child!! Even then Clairee & Ouisa reminded me of my sister & I! Now that we’re actually older… I see I was right! 😂😅
The shade Dolly and Olympia threw was iconic.
6:46 Dolly and Olympia are the Aunties we never had. The shade they threw at Janice Van Meter was iconic.
I haven't left home without Lycra on these thighs since I was 14!😂
Amen to that Bud!
@@6ftsweet You were brought up right.
I still think of those comments seeing what some women wear today out of the house lol
You're right about Dolly and Olympia, although my grandmother's sisters came mighty close. West Virgina born and bred, but they could throw shade like the good ladies of Chickasaw Parrish.
I take it Drumm got hearing problems after the shenanigans with the explosives.😂
Lol bingo😂😂😂
"Thanks Ouiser. Nothin like a good piece of ass."
Best line in the whole movie and he delivers it so subtly.
😂😂😂
Tom Skerrit was a national treasure. That's one of my favorite lines too; his line read is hilarious. 😅
They should've added the line where Ouiser snidely remarks "Good! Now take your piece of ass and eat it! If anything "chocolatey" should come out, you're eatin' that too!"
@@tmmastonYou got that line from a comment I wrote on another video of that scene, didn’t ya???? It’s almost word for word! 🤣
“That looks like an autopsy.” That line always cracks me up. Shirley M’s deadpan delivery is perfect.
I love the all couples that just go to town on the dance floor and show off their skills.
I love Jambalaya!
Not a cellphone in sight at the wedding! Bliss😂
Nothing beats a big southern wedding
Lovely... Just lovely actress's and actor's... This movie always gets to my heart ❤😂😢
One of my most favourite movies ever made. Best cast. Still cry and laugh and cry again. Only recently found out its a true story.
Oh. I never heard that it was based on a true story.
@@ladennayoung2939 The medical staff when Shelby is on life support are in fact the actual staff that took care of the real woman that Shelby is inspired by
When I was a teenager, I watched this movie over and over and over again. Couldn't get enough of it. Funny enough I knew it was based on a true story back then. What's even funnier, this video was just recommended to me and I have no idea what this film is about. I guess I need to watch it again 😁
@@sassbratdid not know that!
Yes its a true story and i believe the minister in the movie was the brother of the sister who lost her life soo sad great movie great cast 4 ever in my heart 1 of my fav4ever
The actress who played Jackson’s mother, Mrs. Nelda “Lori” Tate has passed away here in Natchitoches. She was 93. Our hometown Hollywood star ❤❤
Soo very 2 hear of her passing riparadise
It would have been their 34th wedding anniversary this year. How time flies.
The minister who marries them is Robert Harling who wrote the play
I didn’t know wow
I didn't know that! How cool!
Robert was also the brother of the real "Shelby", Susan Harling Robinson.
Well he is the real life Shelby’s brother
In 1981 when Two Characters on The UK Soap Opera Coronation Street got married Ken Barlow (Played By William Roache) and Diedre (Played By The Late Anne Kirkbride) got married, they were married by a UK Celebrity Minister The Reverend Topping. Folks asked if they were really married. They even got more of a viewing audience next to Prince Charles & Princess Diana. Sadly there were to unhappy endings, Diedre "dies" on the show and in real life, while in real life Princess Diana dies as well.
It seems like ppl in 80s had more fun, more money, more energy. Nowadays everyone works non stop, no money, no energy...
But it's not a documentary, not a lot to do with reality.
No. You're right. Things flowed easier
People did have more money and more fun. They weren't on cell phones and interacted irl on top of it. Things started to go bad in the mid 90's and surprise! Here we are today.
You can thank the republican party for that
This is a movie trust me we worked hard complained about inflation and were exhausted
The dad being a whole vibe
"Daddy! It's time! It's tiiiime!"⌚
This film never gets old, still makes me laugh out loud, one of those rare films where the women get some of the best lines. ❤
That man and woman could really dance. It was nice to see that.
“That Jackson? He’s one big hangin’ man!” Julia Roberts: “Yes, I know.” ROFL
I love the wedding scene!
I wish my mother loved me as much as Shelby's mom loves her
Aww I’m sorry to hear.
Gonna send you an internet hug❤
@@ComaLies225 🙏❤️
Growing up in the South, most of us knew women like these. 😊
Has anybody else noticed that the caterer behind the table starting at 4:20 is played by the same guy who plays Benny from the first Mummy?
Yes, I noticed him the second time I watched the movie 😊
I knew he looked familiar who would’ve thought 😂
The armadillo cake was awesome
" Thank you, Ouiser. Nothing like a good piece of ass!" Gets me every time 😂
@@nativeskin7819 right... looks so good toi
That looks like an autopsy.
The way Truvy mocked Belle Marmillion when Belle talked bout Calories Calories Is hilarious
That's the most gorgeous wedding dress I have seen !
Julia Roberts was beautiful !!
Yes. It was beautiful. I am so tired of playboy bunny brides.
Cameron Diaz's wedding dress in "My Best Friend's Wedding" was also beautiful. Very classic. Julia Roberts also starred in that movie, as the groom's best friend and the bride's maid-of-honor. Her lavender gown was gorgeous.
Was???
Julia Roberts still is beautiful
This is still one of my favorite 80's chick flick and hilarious! My favorite scene where Ousier is still mad at Clairee for the funeral beat down remark and Ousier is sitting in the backyard sulking tells Clairee "your evil and you must be destroyed" 🤣
I love this wedding … I miss the 80s
I think those bridesmaid dresses are so much better than the hooker style of today
@@Richard-vq7udI don’t know of any hookers who wear gowns.
What was the best part of the 80s?
@@katieking7231 for me it was the birth of my daughter and the music.
@@katieking7231 lots of things. Brides had dresses that went all the way up and were not playboy bunny brides.
Good old Louisiana wedding 💍 love this
Looking at the bridesmaids’ dresses, I can hear Chandler saying “I’m sorry, we do not have your sheep” 😅😂
I hear, "They look like a meringue." 🤪😉🙂
“Nothin lika gud picea ass!” Best line in the movie!!😂😂😂😂
Drumm is so handsome, a good looking man!
This movie made me cried 😭
Brilliantly written and preformed by everyone . ❤my favourite movie . Fabulously casting of 5 best female actresses shown throughout the movie❤
My favorite scene when they dance to Jambalaya the couple really danced it well and mastered it.💖👍🤗
Yes. That was really nice.
I love that scene too
I thought it was the Charleston they were dancing. 😂😂
They were actually the film's choreographer's if I'm remembering correctly.
I don't trust anyone who does their own hair. I don't think it's normal.😂
I’m having an Armadillo Groom’s cake at my wedding. The baker said, “we do those all the time - it’s our #1 seller.”
Remember when Julia Roberts married Lyle Lovett??!! I'll never forget there was this tabloid in the grocery store claiming to have pictures of the wedding and I instantly recognized they had just photoshopped Lyle's face over Dylan McDermott's from where they are standing at the altar together. It was crazy!!
I read somewhere the man playing the minister is the one who wrote the play, and it's based on the true story of his sister, Susan.
Yes that is true heartbreaking true story about his sister and yes I believe he was the minister
Still one of my favorite movies.. 💗
What a fluffy, pink affair. I can only imagine what that must have cost.
Julia Roberts dress very elegant and beautiful in this film.
Her mother n I do!! Lollll
Love this movie great movie great cast when they take her off the machine i cant watch it breaks my heart
" IT'S TIME "
I love, love, love this movie 💗🥰
Adored this movie. What a cast.
Sammy always reminds me of Dracula when he made the cherry coke
Or Eddie Munster
The way he said her mother and I do always had me laughing. Lol. Rotfl.
Always liked this scene from this movie, and seeing Olympia in it.
That church is so pink. I love it.
Well, it was hosed down with pepto-bismol. 😅😂😊
Such a happy, simpler time.
I got daughter watching it when she was in jr high now she’s 21 and still loves watching it with me💕🎀
Pink is my signature color! Love it.
I love this movie so much
Love that movie
😂😂😂😂 ain’t even bother to wear a girdle 😂😂😂😂😂😂 those two was something else 😂😂😂😂
Not a single cellphone in sight.
That’s because they didn’t exist yet baby. Fun times, everyone had to turn up to hve a good time back then.
They existed but they were huge.
You're blinded by nostalgia. The past sucks.
@@KernelHughes without the past we wouldn’t have had the future. Nostalgia is only bad when you’re comparing flaws
Ouiser is my spirit animal. 😆
1:53 what’s with the growl?! 😂😂
Poking fun at Ouiser’s dog Rhett.
Tom Skerritt, he's so likeable.
5:20 CaLoRiEs CaLoRiEs 😂😂
Please pray for Princess Kate who has Cancer. I think of her wedding and how proud her Father Michael was when he gave her away.
Wait until 80s style returns, including the big hair.
As a saying from a friend who lived in the 80s and had the hair told me. "The hair in the 80s is the reason for the ozone issue'
80’s hair was everything. The bigger, the better.
Watch 2021 Vladiyan Royal Bridal fashion - it definitely makes 2000's and twenteens look outdated.
60s and 80s known Big hairdos.. two eras of big hair....Aqua net made millions 🤑🤑🤑🤑
@@bqkmg2037 it was all a revival of the 1900s "gibson girl" look!
Shelby’s dress was beautiful
Wish people still wore those kind of sweet, modest dresses nowadays. Miss those more innocent times.
This is the 80s, this isn't sweet and modest, this is over the top and fluffy
@@antithoughtpolice7497 maybe over the top for you but still modest and sweet. Good day.
Tacky as hell.
You can have your clothes made to look however you want.
Me too. I fell in love with those comfy slightly empire waist jumpers, too. I must have made myself at least a dozen of those. 😊
Beautiful church wedding decorations. But i think it is pink overload with all the bridesmaids wearing pink. Lol
The 80s ...the bigger the hair the closer to God!!😂😂
This was an awesome movie. Olivia was hilarious in this movie
“Nothing like a good piece of ass!” Gets me every time…. 😂😅
A missed opportunity for Ouiser to retort "Good! Now take it and eat it! Should anything "chocolatey" should come out, you're eatin' that, too!"
All Pink!!!! 😂that's what she wanted!!😂
That is what 'extra' looked like in the eighties. Big hair, big bows, big dresses that looked like giant cupcakes.
at 4:50 oh my goodness.........that bartender is the lil creep 'Benny' from the movie "The Mummy" starring Brendan Fraser. I was thinking "That's an odd looking dude....ewwww look at his teeth" and the way his voice sounded saying ".........world". Bango! That's when I recognised him and his voice. Benny the creep from "The Mummy". I'm good with faces and voices.
1:10/1:13 Dahdee, its tame! Dahdee its taame! Its taame!
The bridesmaids dresses and hat look like the one Rachel had on in friends
The sanctuary looks like it’s been hosed down with pepto bismol !! 😅
❤😂 i love this movie
The groom's cake got some laughs.
Love that she gave him the backside of the cake and he just burned her with his comment
That wedding dress is beautiful. So sad that Shelby died and she was so young too.
Her colors were "blush and bashful." 😂
“Her colors are pink and pink” quoted in m’lynn’s voice
@AlyssaHenson-z6z and, the sanctuary looked like Pepto Bismol exploded. LOL! (I don't remember the exact quote, but she wasn't wrong 😂)
@@angelaabbott2824 for real for real lol
This movie came out when I was either 6 or 7. The most I remembered was the armadillo cake because I wasn't sure if it was a cake or not and that's how I learned about red velvet cake. Basically I'm here for the cake.
I was about 15 years old when I saw this movie… I thought if I ever got married I’d want to look like Shelby … I’m in my late 40’s… I don’t look like her and I know I’ll never get married
❤i love the wedding scene to
I wonder how much that wedding cost, wouldn't be cheap.😊
(😂at the wedding scene from 16 candles bride all looped up walking down the aisle,)

Wo Man that right there is a good movie

Of course, Ouiser is serving up the armadillo. 😂
"You did this ?" 'You only do armadillo's" ? OMG, Weezer was a trip. I love Clairee made sure to introduce her to Weezer and waiting for her reaction.
" Nothing like a good a good piece of ass." The scene and line always make me bust out laughing. 😂😅😂
I just realized Drum is "Strawberry" from Up In Smoke! 😂
Drum was the captain of the freighter in "Alien".
