    If you add a couple of small midi controllers for the members of the group you can have also a personalised control on the monitor tracks.

      That would do the trick, need a couple pretty long USB cables to go with that!

    Hugely helpful. I record a group of musicians in a "everyone in the same room" set up and have been wondering how to pull off independent monitoring. I didn't realize how underutilized my 10 line-outs were.

      Cool way to record! Same room & group every time? Thinking a template like this could help save time on monitoring setups for sessions, if it's already sorted to everyone's liking / saved from the previous session 🤓

      @joshtrinnaman Typically, yes. Actually having our next session this weekend. Spending my night trying to build a template to save some time and found myself back here! Thanks again for the video!

      Using the Behringer UMC 1820 with the ADAT extension, trying to take full advantage. I think I have enough outputs to give everyone stereo!

    Another possible workflow is to have Imaginado LK installed on an iPad or iPhone (not sure if it works with Android or not 🤔) and then set up a wireless midi connection where the other devices can connect to the Ableton session and each device could customize their display to only see their IEM group. You might need to bring a wireless router to create that LAN but those are fairly universally affordable.

      Another even more customizable option would be TouchOSC that would let you build your own interface essentially

      LK Remote does work on Android and I’ve explored that setup before, but in my experience isn’t something I’d like to count on working reliably at every venue or gig; if you’ve got time to spare in soundchecks to make sure everythings working then that’s a goer, but can be a bit scary to be relying on something like that if you’re doing a gig where you only get a quick line-check, quick changeovers eg festival gigs. This is why I prefer being old-school & using actual physical Jack leads & audio cable connections over using WiFi or Bluetooth apps

      @@joshtrinnaman Absolutely, The fewer points of potential failure, the better. And when you're performing similar or identical sets its easy to get those kinds of kinds locked down. I'm used to working in contexts that incorporate a lot more spontaneity and musicians swapping in and out and trying to keep as many things flexible on the spot as possible, but the workflow here is just super cool and i'm still definitely taking some notes for other future projects.

    just a suggestion for everyone wandering about cheapest option for a vol knob for performer. Check out behirnger MA400 it has stereo in and plenty of gain

    • @joshtrinnaman
      @joshtrinnaman  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah they can work nicely! I use a Behringer Miniamp800 sometimes, because I can connect from my interface's outputs 3&4 with two patch cables to the inputs of the MiniAmp, to get things in Stereo with less fuss.
      To do this with the MA400, I'd have to connect a single stereo jack cable from my interface's Headphone Output port, not the back 3&4 outs - which is kind of annoying, as routing things within Ableton specifically to the headphone port isn't really doable. Would have to mess about with the interface's internal routing & software, which is also bit limited for options on this Scarlett thing

    Nice, clear video.
    Some kind of midi device like Korg nanokontrol would allow each member to adjust their levels. That’s, more cables tho…
    Or maybe some kind of midi app that would do the same thing

    • @joshtrinnaman
      @joshtrinnaman  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That would work! But like you say, more cables. Also uses up more USB ports on your hub that you may want to use for other gear, Launchpads, USB Keyboards, etc.
      I looked into using iOS / mobile apps to control Ableton from phones as well. That does work -- until it doesn't. If it lags out or connection goes weird at a gig, that'd be horrible

    This is gold! Thanks! Is that click track a special dedicated track that ableton provides?

    • @joshtrinnaman
      @joshtrinnaman  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The Click I'm using is actually from Logic, its just an audio file exported from there. Ableton's built-in metronome function is a bit limited, as you can only route it to one pair of outputs from the Cue Output menu in the bottom-right of the UI. You can't split it out several times to different outputs like I do here.
      To make a click like this using Ableton:
      1- Create a blank session for your song with any BPM & Time Sig info you need in Arrangement View
      2- turn Ableton's Click on
      3- Create a blank track, solo it (with Click still on)
      4 - Export an audio file the length of your song
      5 - you should now have Ableton's click as an audio file like I do in this project here, instead of using the built-in Click button, if that makes sense.
      Hope that helps!

      @@joshtrinnaman Thanks so much for this, yeah why wont they make it simpler. There is a video somewhere that the guy uses some drum instrument (built in) and loops its kick and cowbell making it metronome effectively. Perhaps that way one can route that midi track output to inputs of other tracks?

    • @joshtrinnaman
      @joshtrinnaman  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@krzysztofwaclawski9002 I've just noticed that Ableton has seemingly removed the ability to export out its built-in click track as audio, since Version 12! This is highly annoying, theyve just made this more complicated. Cheers Ableton 👎
      Instead yeah, you can use MIDI / a Software Instrument to do this; load up Drum Rack or a Sampler and simply put a clave sample or whatever sound for the click you want into it. Then create a MIDI Clip and put in 4 quarter notes on downbeats. When you change BPMs etc, this MIDI click should shift with that and you can also route this track the same as I did with the click in this video.
