    Adorable kid!! I installed the system tonight. This system is an absolute game-changer. It seems that I would spend 30% of my studio time adjusting headphone mixes from the sends of my board and it still would not sound that great. With 4-5 musicians all wanting constant changes, it was frustrating as I wanted to concentrate on getting the outboard gear set. Tonight I plugged in the 16 direct outs of my mixer to this and I almost cried it sounded so good. It is so easy to use I just can't wait to get my friends in the studio to get their reaction. We have a really nice pro studio in the area and the engineer was asked what his favorite piece of gear was that he uses and he said this. Now I see why.

    Here's my P16 pro-tip. When the mixers are first powered on, the MAIN button on the left is linked to the volume encoder (lower right knob) and pan encoder. If a client immediately starts turning those encoders it will turn up or down (usually down) or pan the overall mixer output. These two knobs offer an opportunity to completely confuse a client and the engineer. It can even lead to making you think the unit is broken. Should there be a complaint that the mixer volume won't go loud enough or is only coming out one side, push the MAIN button and check the volume encoder and or pan control. Ask me how I know.

    I use the same system - it’s great! I mirror the 4 Apollo cue busses to the first 8 channels on the P16, then have 8 more cues I can drive from the DAW for already recorded tracks. It’s a nice setup!

    Hi Andrew, in case you didn’t notice; when you connect the P16M straight to the P16i or P16D with the Ethernet cable you don’t actually need to use the power supply as the P16M will be powered over Ethernet :) just a quick tip in case you didn’t know. Great stuff as usual!

    TIps - 1. If you use a behringer digital mixer, you can run a long ethernet cable to another part of the house (porch!), hooks up studio monitors to it, and do a live mix using powered monitors or cans with the pc/Mac/iPad controlling the mixer. 2. If you are using something like an ATEM video switcher and you need to get a stereo feed to it from some distance, you can have the stereo feed on the mixer and output that to the ATEM. Maybe not ideal, but it works.

    I think this is great that you are implementing a monitoring system into the home studio. This is something I to am planning on utilizing in my home studio ( once my new home is finished being built).
    I have several years of experience w/ Aviom systems and have researched all things “personal monitoring systems including the P-19 and it’s big brother the Midas DP-48 which is in an entire other class of its own. Although I have not experienced the p-19’s myself have read up on the features and it’s capability and believe it will be a great tool for you and am looking forward to your review of this system!!

    Trick tip with p16s: the stereo out limiter is garbage so I tend to just leave it off lol (knob all the way to the right). the eq is pretty bad too so all monitor mixing should probably be done prior to reaching that big module in my opinion!

    • @willempie132
      @willempie132 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you can commit to 48khz, ADAT is a great way of connecting it to your x8p!
      Then you're not using your expensive converter channels for the headphone system.
      and you have more room for other things like hardware inserts!

    • @AndrewMasters
      @AndrewMasters  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m using 8 line outs from one of my interfaces, patched into the first 8 channels of the p16’s. If I want “click” on channel 1, I “send” click to output 1 (pre fader). Guitar to channel 2, I “send” the guitar track to output 2, so on and so forth.

    A question I've been struggling with for a couple years now: Do you know why when I get my tracks to the loudness of one of my reference tracks, it will sound fine in my studio monitors and my headphones, and even my couple sets of crappy speakers I keep in my studio in order to get a feel for what it sounds like on cheaper speakers, but on a phone or via my phone's bluetooth in my vehicles, I always have to turn my phone down 2 notches because at full volume it will be distorted?

  • @DuceIRae
    @DuceIRae 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    love the video bro keep it up

  • @zacksymes
    @zacksymes 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is a little above my pay grade. So the DAW runs each separate track to your patch bay? The Patch bay runs into your headphone "brain"? And the brain runs into headphone boxes around the live room?
    Are we saying the guitarist could change his headphone volume feed between his own guitar, a guest vocalist, and a drummer? Or can these headphone boxes dive DEEP into the mix.... and the guitarist could change how much kick vs snare he is hearing from his drummer across the room?
    I got confused because the headphone boxes didn't look like endless rotary encoders? How much of the mix can they alter might be my main question haha

    • @AndrewMasters
      @AndrewMasters  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are 16 line inputs, what you send and how much flexibility you give is up to you. But yes whoever has a mixer next to them can independently adjust whatever is being send to the box to their own taste, having no effect on other mixers or the daw.

  • @sundogaudio851
    @sundogaudio851 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    so how is the "brain" getting signal in? from the interface outs? I wish that was explained further.

  • @Jake_Sachs
    @Jake_Sachs 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Does your son realize his shirt is inside out? XD
    Also, doesn't the Console system in your Apollos allow you to make custom headphone mixes already? I realize these Behringers let the player do it themselves, so I get how it's more convenient.

  • @jay_palacios2314
    @jay_palacios2314 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Did you have to do any routing or did adat from Apollo just show up 1-8 and 9-16 right away on the P16i?

    • @AndrewMasters
      @AndrewMasters  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m using the 1/4” inputs from my patchbay. If you connected via adat you would just send your outputs to the adat outs of your interface.

    • @jay_palacios2314
      @jay_palacios2314 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are correct I forgot you used the Jumper db connector.
      Sorry. I’m using cue mixes in my apollo8p I’ve got the p16i interface just haven’t seen how to route the 16 channels back out through adat.

      @@jay_palacios2314 Hey man Im gettin ready to purchase the p16 and use with the uad 8p. Did you figure out how to route it out via ADAT? thanks

    • @jay_palacios2314
      @jay_palacios2314 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes sir I did. On each channel strip where it says monitor right above the fader. Click that and it will let you choose adat as an output. You can stereo link as well but remember you loose two channels when you do.
      Lastly make sure the channel strip is not muted as it won’t send the audio to p16i if it is muted
