      +TFB TV Well, even as a German I would have to agree. If the list was about Technological Advancment the STG44 definetly would be a 50/50 with the AK, but the AK fought on after the war, while the STG44 lived on only as a Legacy.

    I'm more than probably going to piss people off but I don't think the M16 fits the "Changed The World" category. It's certainly one of the biggest commercial success ever in firearm history BUT it has not created any revolution like smokeless powder or metal cased ammunition or shaped parts of the world like the AK did.
    It is modular, I'll grant that without problem, but again, any weapon system you can swap the factory handguard for a 1913 rail system on attains the same level of modularity.
    I think place number 2 should have gone to the STG44 since it is THE gun that launched the assault rifles era and the AK should have easily gotten 1st place since it largely contributed to shape the world to its current state.

    • @ButchDeLoria
      @ButchDeLoria 9 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      +Guillaume Doriat It's from the freedom boner caused by including the M1 Garand. That said, I still agree with the M16/AR-15 being in there, just because so many derivatives and variants have been made of it, similar to the Mauser 98.

    • @deepbludreams
      @deepbludreams 9 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      +Guillaume Doriat Er what? the M16 most definitely changed the world, is it not obvious when we look at what came after? 5.45X39 for one, 5.56 scared the russians into creating their own version of a small caliber hyper fast round, against the wishes of Mr Kalashnikov, Meanwhile it ushered the end of the battle rifle across all of Nato, something that is not a minor feat....the AK made the Assault rifle prolific, the M16 created what we now know as a modern assault rifle, light, sleek and fast.
      Also really? having rails is the only modular thing you can think of of the M16/AR15 system? not the fact the same lower can be 22LR then all the way up to 50BMG with but a swap of a upper and two pins? hell it can be a Crossbow and a Harpoon if you really wanted it....NOTHING comes even close to how much possibility the M16/AR15 can produce

    • @markshul03
      @markshul03 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +Guillaume Doriat The only thing the AK has done is give rebellions a gun to shoot innocent people with. The fact that it is cheap and reliable is the ONLY thing that keeps it relevant.
      The AR has influenced every single firearm designed since its introduction. Either its caliber or its design features are used. Name one Assault rifle designed since then (that isn't a derivative or evolution of an existing design) that isn't and I'll prove you wrong.

    • @NinjaEnShort
      @NinjaEnShort 9 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      mark shuler The Top 5 topic is "Rifles that Changed the world". From your own example the AK has armed pretty much every rebelion from Africa to Asia to America. The gun played a huge role in shaping the world, regardless of us agreeing with said changes or not.

    • @deepbludreams
      @deepbludreams 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Guillaume Doriat What? the 270 shares nearly no ballistic data with 5.56 and 5.45 or the likes, hell 270 is closer to a modern 6.8SPC then 5.56 and even more so said 270 round pretty much lead nowhere with not even its developers using it for anything but testing whereas the 5.56 became the western standard for a reason.

It fought in two world wars and was the rifle that enforced rule in the British Empire which covered a quarter of the earth and its people. Its still in service today. Pretty historic I'd say.

For bolt action the 303 was unsurpassable for mag capacity and in trained hands, the speed of the bolt action was amazing. At the Battle of Mons in 1914, the rate of fire from the 303 was such that the Germans thought they were under slow firing machine gun fire.

      By revolutionary I mean a firearm that turned tides, changed the definition of the word "warfare".

    • @DIY_Miracle
      @DIY_Miracle 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd say the MkII Snider, which replaced the Lee Enfield in 1856ish (Late Crimean War) was superior because it doubled the reload time with it's breach load. One of the big problems for sustaining fire during that was is that the soldiers were running out energy due to all the steps of reloading, it was hard to aim with sore arms and the relative simplicity of the Snider practically abolished that problem.

    • @TheHandgunhero
      @TheHandgunhero 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The Snider wasn't adopted until 1866 and it was hardly revolutionary - before it you had the Dreyse (first bolt action rifle) being mass issued by the Prussians since 1848 as their standard service rifle. You then also had the French adopting the Chassepot in 1866 and the Americans adopting the trapdoor Springfield also in 1866. The Snider whilst made a huge difference to British firepower thanks to being their first standard issue breech loader replacing the Enfield 1853 Rifled Musket, did not by any means change the world.

    OMG, its "Rifles That Changed The World", not "your favorite rifles" or "rifles seen in movies more often" or "rifles that were used for the longest period of time".
    What did FN FAL prove? That .308 is too powerful for main rifle? What did G3 prove? That roller-delayed blowback is not that great? What did Lee Enfield prove? That you can make a good bolt-action adopted by 1 nation and its colonies? What did Mosin prove? That you can make working rifles while being bombed by Nazis? What did SKS prove? That it was too late for a semi-automatic 10-shot in 1950's? In the video these are systems that literally proved concepts from scratch and changed the whole military DOCTRINES, or, like Mauser or AK, were used for soooo many wars, that literally became the tools, forging nations and countries.
    And if you have to choose only 5 - the list Is close to perfect.

    • @caramelypoops
      @caramelypoops 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lee Enfield was used for well over a hundred years and enforced British law on a quarter of the earth .Its still in use today. The detachable box magazine was first used in the Lee Metford, the Enfield's black powder cousin. Do you know any guns with detachable box magazines? Pretty influential and historic I'd say.

    • @jedmistro
      @jedmistro 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The FN Fal was actually designed to use a less powerful round and only uses a 7.62 because the Americans pushed for it when NATO was first coming about. It 2as designed to use a .280 round which although still a big round by intermediate standards today, was more managable than .308.

    Henry Repeating Rifle or Spencer Rifle - Prove that a soldier could bring a multishot weapon to a battlefield and kill at long range constantly without reloading shot after shot
    StG 44 - Birth of the Assault Rifle and proved all the armies that the days of long range combat every day is over
    Maxim Gun - Forced everyone in the WW1 conflict to own a piece of it and shown people how important it was to the world of suppressions and the only gun in the conflict that wrecked all sides.
    MP-18 - Predecessor of the SMG and proved that for automatic weapon, a single soldier could carry such weapons and kill an entire squad with just pull of the trigger.
    All these weapons were even more famous and changed the world completely but what do we get? The AK and M-16? What.... Alex... Step up your game...

    • @footbalr074
      @footbalr074 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Speed Reaper maxim- not an infantryman's rifle, nice try next time try comprehension or just not being an asshat,
      Stg 44- true it was the first "assault rifle", but had little effect on the war and did not set off an arms race nor did it shape literally anything. The ak shaped many nations as did the ar not to mention the ar15 beginning an era of smaller cartridges. The only thing you could argue is that Kalashnikov was inspired by the st,, allegedly.
      Mp-18, reasonable firearm to be on the list, terrible assertion.
      Henry- read the description asshat.

      footbalr074 I know the Maxim's not an Rifle "Asshat"
      Same goes to the MP-18
      However, the Henry IS an rifle. Same goes to the Spencer. While the world was still using muzzle loading rifle and the Dreyse Needle Gun, the Americans were already owning the frontier with these lever action rifle firing pistol ammo and this proved that you don't have to reload every time after firing every shot.
      So before you call someone an asshat, get your facts right. The title said "Top 5 rifle that changed the world" and the Henry did. Asshat.

    In my opinion, the Lee-Enfield is more influential than the Mauser 98. The Mauser 98 is undeniably a great weapon, but the claim that it's the perfect rifle without flaw is complete nonsense.
    In terms of ergonomics for example, the Lee-Enfield is far superior, the bolt is shorter meaning you don't need to move your head that much when working it, the bolt also doesn't block the sights making aiming easier, the position of the bolt to the trigger is also better allowing a faster cycle than the Mauser. The sights on the Lee-Enfield No. 4 are certainly better in my view as they offer a better view of the battlefield through the sights, allowing you see targets better.
    Of course the Mauser has it's own advantages over the Lee-Enfield too. Both are superb rifles no question about it, those who say either is a terrible weapon have no clue what they're talking about. But I just think overall, the Lee-Enfield is a better military rifle and more solider friendly. If I were to go to war and had to pick one of these two rifles, I'd take the Lee-Enfield any day. Just my opinion.

    I'm so freakin tired of people saying that the AK is copied from the StG44. There are literally 0 meaningful similarities between them, both in form and function. Seriously, you have to be half blind to say that the AK resembles an StG44, and if you took them both apart, it should be very obvious that there's nothing in common between them. In fact, you will immediately notice a difference the moment you start disassembling them; the StG44 has a hinged upper receiver, and the AK just has a dust cover. Before you even fire them, you will notice that the magazine lock is different. The StG44's designer may have helped out designing the thing, but you wouldn't be able to tell at all.

    AK should be #1. It's the most notorious gun. It practically is the first thing people think of when the word "gun" is said. I know the M16 was also widely used but mainly only in the U.S. military. The AK47 was everywhere. From Eastern Europe, to the Middle east to Africa. It's without a doubt the most important gun to ever be used in a battlefield.

The only reason the sturmgewehr wasn’t mass produced like the AK is because the country that designed it was on the losing side.

    Like the list disagree with the M16 as far as changing the world. The FN/FAL had a much more significant impact on world affairs than the M16 during the same time period, it was adopted globally as opposed to the M16 that was adopted in the US only, it saw action in many more theatres of war than the M16 including Africa, Europe, and South America. There was a reason the FN/FAL was known as The Right Arm of the Free World as opposed to the M16 that was not known as anything other than a US service weapon.

    The M16 didn't deserve to be on this list, especially at number 1. Your only reason for it being number 1 is applied much more so to the AK.
    The only thing they did to the M16 is try to fix it's shitty grade of reliability from the original.
    The AK has become more and more modular (more so than the M16, just look at the AK-12), accurate and supposedly more ergonomic than it's original counterparts.
    P.S: You shouldn't have shown the 416 at the end, considering the fact that it isn't an M16. The closest thing the two have in common is the ammunition used, and the silhouette (which bears more resemblance to an M4 than an M16).

    • @Pfletch83
      @Pfletch83 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Zoltan Csikos Actually the fire control of the 416 has it's roots with the AR-platform. The only real difference is the piston system on the 416 vs the DI system of the AR. just sayin'

    honestly I'm a bit sad that the oldest rifle still in service with any armed force in the world, the Lee Enfield, didn't earn a spot on this list. it's reliability and staunch performance through the Boer war, world wars 1 and 2, korea, Vietnam, and even into the conflict in the middle east today should've secured it a spot, probably bumping off the M16 (because, let's be honest, Trump probably would've had him executed if the M16 wasn't on there). Another point of note, if a Mauser had to be on this list, it should've been the Model 1896, as that one also served from 1896 into the 50s, and held a record as the most accurate (classic) bolt action rifle in the world (followed by the Schmidt Ruin M. 1896/11). It was these smaller rifles, the ones that didn't see a lot of combat but saw their fair share, that defined the changes that the world powers needed to take note of. Also the Lee is amazing (but that's my personal opinion as an owner)

    • @GeorgiaBoy1961
      @GeorgiaBoy1961 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Lebel doesn't deserve a place, since its ammunition was what was significant and not the rifle itself, which was of mediocre design at best. The Lee-Enfield is a legendary design, but its influence has not been as great as that of the Mauser - which lives on in so many sporting/hunting arms which use a variant of the Mauser action, i.e., Winchester M70, Remington 700, etc.

    And the Remington rolling block is a joke to you?
    In all seriousness, the AR-18 deserves an honorable mention, since it is the base of every non-AR-15 pattern modern assault rifle. If it has a short-stroke piston and a rotating bolt It's almost always an AR-18-derived pattern. The Steyer AUG, the Howa 89, the Remington ACR, H&K G36, and many, many others.

    Nice video, and a very good list.
    I'm not going to nitpick it. It really is impossible to pick 5, and you could argue about it forever.
    I did enjoy the line about a "viable functional laser blaster"....
    And that is very true, and illustrates a very good point. It's been a long time, my whole life, basically, with really no "breakthrough" innovation. Depending on how you look at it, we're around the 50 year mark... I wouldn't be at all surprised to see something truly new & different show up, and make the AR/M4/AK platforms look like lever action rifles....

    I'd say the AR-18 is pretty important. The SCAR, SA80/L85, G36, Type 89 and a bunch of others owe their existence to the AR-18. It has laid the groundwork for a lot of popular piston guns.

    • @89tonstar
      @89tonstar 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Dylan Ridge-Storer Not even, the AR180 was never adopted by any nation, never served in any conflict other then some small special forces and SWAT use. The SCAR and all modern rifles use polymer, this was an invention that came with the AR15

    • @Brigand17
      @Brigand17 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@89tonstar The AR180 is a different gun, the AR180 was used by the IRA as well as the AR18 and AR15(and many other guns as well ofcourse).
      Dylan never claimed that the AR18 originally used polymer, though the AR180B which was released in 2001 does feature a polymer lower receiver. What Dylan said is that the AR18 is important because it inspired many other designs, even though the AR18 itself was a failure.
