+Martin Hatchuel yes he is truly excellent, i hope he channels that energy and passion and great voice and fantastic delivery and does more public speaking.
He is so excited, so passionate on his field of study, and he wants to share that wonder and excitement to everyone. An I have to tell you, its contagious!
@Cryptos Cryptos well yes, your absolutely right about that. The thing is that these people are more intelligent than myself and are having a bigger impact than myself. I try to strive that and we should all do. I truely love myself and what I have done for others. In my opinion, that what makes other people strive to do better for themselfs and others around them. No matter how big or small!
@Cryptos Cryptos just curious. Why do you have such a stigma towards Ted? I mean, if you dont like these talks than dont watch/listen to them. I dont like watching or reading American main stream news, so I dont. I also don't talk crap about people who love there job and want to share it to an organization that is internationally recognized to some of the top and leading feilds of education. As well as people who like learning from these Ted talks, who are clearly more intelligent than they are on a certain subjects. Narcissistic: a person who has an excessive interest in or admiration of themselves. This trait is not necessarily a bad thing! To be passionate on a job and to love the things you do. Is not a terrible quality either. Bragging on something you have been working on for years and years with sweat and your own time. Who wouldnt want to brag?
Andrés came to my high school about 3 years ago as a special guest speaker. He talked to us about his job and his love for geology. At the end of his presentation, he told us he was working on a new project that he was going to reveal to the world soon. Intrigued, me and several of my classmates pushed for details on this “secret” project. He was all too eager to tell us a story about the mystical boiling river hidden somewhere in the Amazon. He asked us to keep it a secret and to not post anything about it online. Glad to see he got to reveal his amazing project to the world. He’s a great guy, love his work!
@@ScorpionNN-yh1bvI know I’m years late to this reply, but I’m not lying. He really did speak at my old alma mater. It was around my sophomore year of high school so I wanna say 2015/16. Quoting the commenter below you, I have nothing to gain by lying about this. I just wanted to share my story about how I met Andrés and learned of the boiling river.
I've watched this several times and I always cry because the scientist in me is just so touched by his passion. This man is a scientist not because of his degree but because of his curiosity, passion and the understanding that everything is connected to everything else. We need more sceintists like him.
What a good talk. It was so pleasant to hear him because he sounds really enthusiastic and passionate about his work. I do hope he'd be able to improve his research and find great success.
It's not passion only or mostly what makes him great. It's his absolute perfection as a speaker. NOT ONE FILLER WORD in the entire presentation, PERFECT pausing, TOTAL COMMAND and, MOST LIKELY on his second language. Very hard to find a person that can deliver like this now a days. Congratulations to you sir !
When I was travelling around Australia me and my family were walking down a river and I start to walk in the water the further I walked the hotter the water seemed to get warmer to the point were I jumped out of the water and I went back to my camper van and the next day I had burns all over my foot Edit: I went back to this location later on and discovered that at the hottest point of the river it was 60 degrees C it’s absolutely crazy how much we don’t know about the world we live in and how much we haven’t even seen of our own world
This man gets it, science isn't about always looking forward. It's about looking for answers in all directions, something which i always tell my friends.
Super interesting talk with a delightfully enthusiastic speaker. This is what Ted is all about! This is deffinitely one of my favorite presentations. :)
This TED TALK suddenly had me interested in Geoscience!!! Man what an exciting speaker!! Soo much enthusiasm... This man surely loves the work he does! UNDOUBTEDLY if not the best TED TALK... THE BEST SPEAKER TED TALK HAD EVER!!!!!!!!!
This is by far the most interesting and engaging presentation I've ever seen, this guy is more than just another geologist! I wish there were more people in the world like this, who can be inspired by the world around them, and can inspire the people around them.
Great talk, great message and very interesting study but I hate when people say "I discovered" when #1 he was already there before so his family knew where the river was and #2 the natives also knew where the river was, probably for centuries so he didn't "discover" anything.
I love how the narration is all the same anywhere, like I came from hearing this story on a Duolingo podcast to watching and reading everything I can about this boiling river and all the stories match up. He is a good storyteller.
I love this and have shared on Facebook, though I find it sad that so many people would rather watch TH-cams of funny cats or toddlers falling in mud than taking fifteen minutes of their day to watch this, listen to it and FEEL it. A brilliant convergence of story telling, science, spirituality and concerns for the future of significant Earth sites like this. How could anyone learn of this and NOT feel it calling to them? I hope it is protected for its people forevermore... I fear that won't be the case.
Much love, thank you Andres Ruzo for your research and commitment and love of your childhood legends and geothermal science, and thank you Ted for the recording, I found this very enlightening and I am thankful I found this at this time. Much Love To Andres Ruzo, All of Ted, All viewers, and every living being.
This is the sweetest. Of course, amazing, interesting talk. But he's genuinely so excited and fascinated by this river and the fact that he gets to work with it. I hope his goal is achieved and this remains intact forever.
its been on fire for over a decade and in trouble for at least 40 years now if this don't stop now it may cost us all of our lives thousands of species of plants and animals have already gone extinct among those could have been cures to many of our illnesses or things beyond our dreams
his goal by the end was too ensure that the people who controlled the environment around the river understand that they preserve it and how important it is
What a wonderful talk to wake up to, on every level, opening my heart, mind and eyes to the magic that lives so close at hand and is so easily over looked in our petty, self-important and self created news driven neurosis. Thank you for giving me this new Spirit quest, I want to learn more and see what has happened in the 4 years since this talk. It will be almost as dangerous as Andre's quest because, it will devastate me if it has been spoiled.
Great talk, so much passion and a lot to learn about this amazing place that we all live in! It’s great to be here in this beautiful planet ! Thank you so much for sharing !

As an environmental science student, I am very intrigued and very curious as to what is the energy source causing the heat.if not volcanic related. Would totally enjoy landing some kind of job with this guy
I listened to his podcast on Duolingo podcasts and I was so curious to see him and see that river,,,amazing story,,amazing place,,,Peru is full with legends and mysterious places 💪
Amazing! I also loved your book about the boiling river! Thank You for showing the sacred and for protecting our nature, that si the most important thing that wey have
This is a really enthralling talk. At the same time it's really, really sad. We're going to destroy everything and there is no power that can stop us. :(
I'm sure alot of legends are true, or atleast have true aspects. Like this is true, but the shaman and his people believe the hot water comes from the snake rock. And we know that's bullshit, so all legends probably have true aspects, we just have to decipher the fairytales.
the phenomena behind this river is a technology we have been using in powering homes for years. its just not common because of the cost; that is anywhere from $50k to $100k. it would be interesting if they could map out the path of the water and potentially find a more efficient geothermal technology though.
This is pretty cool, and the guy is a good and very passionate speaker. That said, hot springs of geologically mysterious origin far from any active volcanic structures may not be at every second bend on every river system, but they are far from being unheard of- check out Liard river hot springs in British Columbia Canada if you ever drive the Alaska highway.
This is a better forest story than any film attempt (ahem). And it's both legend and reality, the impossible confirmed actual, with questions both resolved and developed until the line between what makes the unknown fascinating and what makes the truth static melds into a discovery that will seize our imagination, both bewildered and calculating, for as long as memory allows.
In Colorado the French were told about the "Fountaine qui boile" - the fountain which boils. It is a creek whose water is minerally effervescent. Big medicines in these springs were used to treat TB
Sounds like my boring university lectures presented by the most enthusiastic professor. 😹😹 you sit through the whole lecture not because you find it interesting but you enjoy he’s speaking.
Science is moved many more steps forward when this kind of passion is expressed. Science need not be dry numbers. It needs feeling. Even Spock recognized that in Star Trek: The Motion Picture!! :)
I don't know if Andrés russo is going to read this, but my grandpa tell me stories like this, I don't know if he speak about the incas here in Bolivia, but he told once about a mountain where the incas lived, this in the "Valles bolivianos" zone, I want to go there to investigate, I don't have any study in this area, but make a discovery like that will be great!!!!
My word; one of the most exciting speakers I've ever heard. Huge respect that he still looks at the world with the wonder and curiosity of a child.

I pray corporations keep their greed away from this sacred place.
Especially since the shaman said any water taken was to be returned to the water could go on. Nestle probably already knows about it.
Buffy Breeden we must respect our planet always.
People probably could use this as a power source of some kind
They dont understand about sacred places. I pray with you
