Because he wasn't using swampert and blissey like every single team in the gen
So fun watching gen 3 OU. So much variety in sets and Pokemon. It really just makes me feel like Brian is perhaps the greatest of all time.
Every team has a Skarmory, Blissey, Swampert, Tyranitar, Starmie, Gengar and maybe a Metagross, Salamence, Celebi, Jirachi, or even Moltres. I wouldn't really say it's that much variety but it's still an okay metagame!
Oh yeah, forgot Zapdos. Forretress is kinda common and Charizard is good in Gen 3, Gyarados is best in DPP.

Just yesterday after watching your videos I decided to make my first couple of teams and play gen 3 ou ladder. I did fine honestly, but needless to say I appreciate you giving us a solid beginner friendly team!

I’ve started playing a decent amount of gen 3 OU and I gotta say, it’s pretty funny how many games just get decided by rock slide flinches.

Why is it important to have roar over whirlwind?

Whirlwind and Drill Peck are mutually exclusive on Skarmory in gen 3, so showing Whirlwind indirectly informs your opponent that you don't carry the superior flying stab. Whirlwind was chosen over Roar when the Soundproof ability was more prominent but has since fallen off.

The Moltres TSS team by eden linked on the ADV OU Sample Teams and Team Dumps thread has Whirlwind instead of Roar.
As far as I know, Whirlwind is strictly better than Roar because it is not blocked by Soundproof (not a big deal but still).
So why did you decide to change it to Roar after the first game ?
It's illegal to have both whirlwind and drill peck at the same time on skarm so using whirlwind over roar reveals to your opponent you're not running peck

How do you know he knows your team? you dont. He just got lucky . There only so many combos with the available pokemon that its impossible to win %100.
