There is nothing wrong with competitive TCG scene even on a local scale, except for the smell oh god the smell ughhhhh i'm retching at a mere thought of it ueghhh. And pokemon TCG prolly even less balanced than yu gi oh while creating authentic early gen experience where a card you need only was distributed once on release on a 5 random days at some random ass lot of random'er mall on bumcrack of nowhere and costs like a fucking car if it's even sold in the first place.
