Like most taxed countries laws are introduced to catch the targeted tax evaders and the smaller fish get caught in the net, while the big fish can afford tax lawyers and creative accountants to avoid paying taxes. There are a lot of Thais that own local businesses that avoid paying taxes. My hope is that retirees remittances are not targeted, as we generally have no benefits like free health care or pensions. A fairer way of taxing people living in Thailand (in my view) is to raise the VAT. And yes by all means go after Multiple national companies, billionaires who avoid their obligations.

Why do you think billionaires avoid tax obligations? Tax avoidance is legal and encouraged by law.

You do get benefits from taxation. How do you think roads and other infrastructure you use are built and operated? Tooth fairies?

Tax minimisation is legal. Tax avoidance is illegal. You have confused the two concepts@@Rogue_Money

For the younger farang, especially those with permanent residence, the idea of waiting for clear statements from the royal gazette about the policies, that Sretta and his cronies threaten to enact, might be okay. As a 69-year-old with a non-immigrant visa, I do not intend to wait around until the kingdom decides how much of my money they wish to extract.

I am watching your video as a retiree who has left Thailand on a temporary basis and who is currently visiting Angeles City in the Philippines. In the midst of all this Thai tax unclarity, my present plan is to remain a max of 179 days in Thailand each year. Then get out and spend the rest of my time travelling in other Asian countries. Lets wait and watch the property prices possibly drop in the second half of 2024 as fellow expats seek to avoid the tax net being put in place. I am sorry for the restaurants, the shopping centres I usually frequent in Thailand, along with the petrol stations, barber shops, massage shops because they will only see 6 months of spending from me in future.
If Thailand really wants to attract retirees, then lets hope this looming nightmare scenario gets resolved very very soon.
I worked in the tax field during my working years, that is why can assure the armchair critics that this is a serious matter... take care guys!

Hypothetically, if someone's paying Taxes, doesn't that open the door to them eventually getting PR? Or Citizenship if Married to Thai? If that's the case, I'd gladly pay taxes for that opportunity, as me being retired doesn't allow me to get a Work Authorization.....just a thought for a future video....

Need to fix new tax laws here for individuals or don’t if you want to lose revenue

seems a lot of imagination, expect this and that in return for being tax, better just expect streamline/simplify the TM30 and 90 days report, more realistic, afterall dated regulations
