I know I’m late but honestly? On pc, the game was and is amazing.
@@1draigon The game was only good on PC if you had great hardware. I have good hardware but had to make shit look average if even average to just play. Games mechanics felt rigid and couldn't be enjoyed with struggling 40-70 fps. Went back and played GTA and it felt so superior in every category and the game is way older. Overhyped but an average game considering the requirements.

@@1draigon I strictly played it on PC and was woefully disappointed. It wasn’t a terrible game if it wasn’t so buggy, but it was extremely average and was not anything of what they promised. They intentionally overhyped this game as something that it wasn’t and lied to their entire fan base.
@@hardy7291 the game was not and is not even decent on a pc with good hardware. I have a top of the line pc with a 3080 and on all the lowest setting I can still dip below 40 fps frequently out of combat. Dogshit game that scammed everyone, me included.
The most underhyped game has to be Atrioc Racing.

Battlefront 2 had one of the craziest comebacks of all time tho. Once EA stepped back and let dice do their thing, it turned into a great game

Yeah only one I disagree with on the list, really enjoyed both even quite close to launch tbh smaller revival like NMS. Just had to ignore the MTX.

It's a fantastic game imo but it's nothing like what was promised. I was never exposed to the marketing as a kid so there was nothing to be disappointed about.

Love it, still played it a few month ago, with the dlc its really fun especially the stage which showed the hearts and rubbing, you could skill to fly and make it to farthers lands through water and stuff and I loved going through it again.
so funny to see this after cyberpunk release, especially when atrioc said fallout 76 was the most bugged AAA game on release. boy did we get something special
nope, 76 was way buggier and if you think it wasn’t you definitely didn’t play it.
76 blows CP out of the water when it comes to unfinished bugginess. Both had a rough start but that's like comparing a fender bender to a train wreck

@@RexDeorumYT yeah exactly at least you could play cyberpunk without the quests literally breaking with complete showstoppers, Fallout 76 was a disaster with no redeeming qualities unlike cyberpunk which is a great gume but quite buggy (not anymore though)

@@hoffiehoff Completely agree. If you played it for the game it was, and not the parkour game that was promised it was super fun. I had 4 characters for each class, so much customization and interesting maps/modes.

I mean i never saw any of the marketing for spore so I had no “hype” about it, I received it as a gift at my birthday party and it immediately became one of my favorite games of all time. So maybe I’m a little nostalgia blind but I am kinda surprised and confused why its so high on this list... would love to see a sequel or remaster to it with some added features and better graphics.

I bought it blindly on steam in uni and loved it. Then I looked into the hype around it and holy crap it doesn't even resemble what was promised.
I think a lot of people don't realize that it's pretty fun for what it is, because they're subconsciously trying to fit it to the mold of how it was marketed.

Surprised Dead Island didn't make it on to this list. I remember watching the trailer with my buddies and we all had goosebumps. Such an emotionally charged cinematic that made the game look like a dark story-driven experience ended up being another generic arcade-like zombie game of the early 2010s.
Bro, I remember loving that trailer so much, and being so hyped. And then I never heard about it being released so I sorta forgot about it.
As someone who bought Mighty Number 9 day one let me tell you, nothing hurt more than watching the game I bought for $40 drop down to $10 in less than a month.
I think anthem is No. 1. It was INSANLY HYPED, and it died in the matter of 3 days. It was insane to experience.
As a destiny fan boy I laugh every time I hear the word anthem because of the shit talk people were spewing

This video taught me that you can really tell someone's age from their opinion on Spore, I had no idea it was actually viewed positively by anyone. I remember seeing crazy cool looking tech demos in like 2004 or something and it came out so many years later looking like THAT
I think that's exactly why I liked the game, because I hadn't heard about it until after it had released and so I had no hype for it, so I didn't really feel lied to when playing it because I had no clue what it promised. Still think it was a fun game but I can see where it went wrong.
i literally learned from this video that it actually ended up being successful, I was in college when it was announced. Crazy what it was sold to us as back then, looking back
I think that everyone who saw the marketing for the game hated the product, while everyone who went in completely blind thought it was pretty freaking fun overall. The marketing just pitched it as such a drastically different game that it made it really hard to appreciate the game for what it was.

I was 25 years old, and experiencing the greatest endorphin-filled Hype for a game I've ever had. I wanted this more than I wanted Super Mario 3 as a child.
I waited 3 long years...For a cartoon. They turned it into a F*%^ Cartoon.

Battlefront 1 is one thing but battlefront 2 doesn’t deserve to be up there. I would put it tied with No Man’s Sky because they added so much free dlc that made it the game it was promised, and their devs were even better than hello games as they made sure to communicate to the community to let them know when dlc was coming out and constantly hinted at things to look forward to, all of which they fulfilled. I played the game at launch for a while and played it through all the updates and it is like a night and day difference. It has a spot on the list, but not up at 4

i loved bf1 but thats probably just because i was like 12 at the time of release and used to play it all the time with my friends
The battlefront games are a special case especially with Battlefront 2 because not only was it just an empty game, but you had to pay hundreds of dollars to have a chance to play what resembles a full game. Battlefront 2 did follow the path of games like No Mans Sky and Sea of Thieves in continuation of live service. The game even surpassed launch numbers last year during its relaunch under the celebration edition and was legitimately a fantastic game (this is coming from a fan of Star Wars too). Unfortunately EA decides all good things must come to an end and they cancelled live service just 4 months after reaching peak player base. There are plenty of great videos that talk about the rerise of the game and I think they are worth the watch for anyone who is interested. Have a good day y’all
Honestly, I think battlefront 2015 is one of my favorite games. I haven't enjoyed a game as much as I enjoyed that one since...

Yeah when my friend told me about Fable before it came out my imagination was running wild. I was just thinking there’s nothing like this out right now, but then when I actually played it I was let down. I still had fun but it was nothing like my expectations.
Props to the no man's sky development team. they took like 6-8 months of silence after it launched (like everyone thought they ran with the money).
And then all of a sudden they just kept pumping out constant free massive updates, and still are to this day. I've never seen a steam review go from like 99% negative reviews to now 80% positive views.

I remember getting Spore when I was like 11 or some shit, and god did I love the first two parts. Going around as a cell attacking and eating shit was fun, and when you were actual creatures running around fighting each other was the highlight of the game. Everything after that was stupid as fuck, I remember starting the game over and just trying to have fun on the second phase but it just wasn't fleshed out. Easily the biggest gaming let down of my life other than maybe Paper Mario Sticker Star.
Idk I personally thought every part of it was amazing. Minus the space section, when I played it I thought every different stage was better then the one before it.
I think Evolve should’ve made the list. I remember how hyped my friends and I were for it in high school, and then when it came out we played it for less than a week. Got boring so fast
If No Mans Sky is 8 for saving it post release, then Battlefront 2 shouldn’t even be on this list
Battlefront 2 is pretty good now, I also enjoy fallout 76 much more now.

Nah, cause they're shitty AAAs who had to get burned to even *start* acting on it. Hello Games is an indie developer and Sean was just being dumb and talked a lot of big talk. Can't fault the whole studio for that. Plus they didn't have to be pressured into fixing their game's issues like the other two have. They immediately went to working on it and Sean was starting to back out of public presentations towards it's release date already and trying to limit expectations but it was too late.

As overhyped as it was, it wasn't even close to Fable levels.
Its very recent, but I think Crucible deserves a spot. There were big expectations from Amazon Studios, and I cant remember any other example of a major game that was actually pulled from the market only months after release

tbf i loved watchdogs but mainly because i live in san francisco and it was set there so it was really fun to just run around my city and do shit i couldn’t do irl here and i think a lot of my friends who also live here loved it for that reason too

Matrix Online was actually amazingly fun. There were tons of bugs, but they did fix a good amount of them overtime. The PVP was so much fun. Was cool just Matrix super jumping around the city and fighting was just a lot of fun.
Crazy thing is that they overhyped the Fable sequels, too. Crazier that my dumb ass bought Fable 3. I’d already steered clear of 2, but somehow I figured it’d be a great idea to get 3. Fuck.

The crazy thing about battlefront is all it had to be was a star wars themed battlefield and people would have played the fuck out of it. And they fucked that up
watch dogs was one of the first games that I was hyped for as an adult. Out of HS with a job and some money, bought a new system. It was so boring. I played all of it still but yeah pretty sad.
I’m a big Fallout fan and being from West Virginia, it was my dream game. Makes me so sad to see how it turned out but, still can find a lot of enjoyment from it. Mostly because I’ve lived here all my life and love my state. Just a ton of missed potential.

I just rememver playing watch dogs and using the traffic blockers to launch my car into the sky, or jumping out of cars and flying into the sky for no reason. Genuinely loved that game

John Romero's Daikatana is even funnier considering he left id Software after it's release leading John Romero to make Daikatana, the same year Carmack and id Software released Quake 3: Arena, one of the most well known and probably most recognizable fps shooter before Counter-Strike 1.6.
It might have been overhyped, but Spore is EASILY in my top 5 games of all time. There's just so much stuff to do at every point in the game after the weird tidepool one.
I had a love hate relationship with it, after all the misleading lies and the botched launch, the bugs...But I put MANY hours into it.
The files for those graphics settings are still in watchdogs files pretty sure someones modded them back into the game even and it looks like the E3 trailer lol
also idk if anyone remembers during the fallout 76 launch but did anyone else farm the can traps in that one room? that could jus make you infinite money

I agree with the assessment that, despite being a wonderful game, Fable should have been number 1 on this list at the time of recording. It would have almost been an easier pill to swallow if the game was bad to terrible like Spore and Daikatana. How great it was though makes you wonder what if it kept up with the impossible promises Molyneux made? It would likely be seen as one of the best games of all time and not simply a great one that is likely in the Top 100 or so.
That said, I think Cyberpunk 2077 hands down belongs at the top of the list now even if we omit the buginess and poor optimization (those make it nigh unbeatable in overhype though). It was supposed to change how we view open world games and give us the agency of the Tabletop RPG upon which it is based. Instead, our character isn't even the true main character, meaning it is fundamentally from its very narrative foundation.

I haven’t thought about daikatana in years, it was my uncles favorite game for a while, he would let me play it from time to time. In hindsight it was pretty mediocre, but as a young kid the game was pretty fun
