Every FM roles that tagged "advanced" will try to advance the ball towards the opposite goal. These are advanced playmakers and advanced forward. Dribble is a must skill for these two since they "advance" the ball forward.
I've been playing FM for over a decade. You are, without a doubt, the best FM content creator that I've ever found. Thank you for these videos, DLP. I watch these while grinding my Romanian save and they help me refocus my thinking about my tactics when I'm in a rut.
you're welcome :) and thank you for taking the time to comment. I've said it elsewhere, but the goal of these videos is to inform people on what the different roles do, not necessarily say "this role is better than another role." For example, sometimes you need an Advanced Forward and sometimes you need a Poacher :D
I‘d love to hear your opinions on changes in the middle of a match. What to do and how to adapt in any given situation. Maybe you can talk about it, at some point:) Keep up the good work
thank you :) and thanks for the suggestion! one video I've got planned is on how to figure out what the opponent is doing. So identifying their formation, player roles, etc... but I wanted to finish the library of roles so we'd all have a reference to go back to
When you finish all the roles, can you place each role into that famous line graph for every position? like to see like a conclusion for each position (not just on creating/scoring, but on other spectrum too)
Funny enough, I had a thought about doing something like that. Basically plotting where the different roles fit within their positional group. And thank you for the suggestion :)
the amount of times I've had to have a personal chat with them and say "You have to start playing better if you want to stay in the first team" is unreal haha
I feel my team takes too long building play (at slightly higher tempo and slightly shorter passes) compared to your highlights. I feel that many teams play defensively against me and I wonder if for such a play a more stationary poacher wouldn't be a better option than the AF I use now, due to poacher creating more space. Behind his back I have the star of my team, an excellent trequartista. The trequartista can vanish from the game at times, but scores many goals - most of them in UCL, though so maybe in Serie A he lacks space to shine (would it make sense to change him to AM-A for example?). Or maybe it would help if I move the trequartista from the AM spot to the F sport keeping his role. Would that affect his game?
This is generally speaking, but if I've got a playmaker right behind the striker, especially a Trequartista or an Enganche, I like to use the Poacher. The Poacher is going to make forward runs and run at the goal, which clears out space in the midfield (this is why it's the best role in the game for creating space.) That space should leave room for the playmaker. With the AF, as you saw in some of the highlights, they hold and wait to see if the pass is on. If you're trying to get a playmaker involved, this can create issues. The downside is that the Poacher will be less involved in your play, which could lead to lower match ratings for him, less goals, and less overall fluidity between all your players. For full disclosure, the Poacher is one of my favorite striker roles (DLF being the other), so I am a bit biased haha As far as the Trequartista in the forward role, that could 100% work for sure... something like a Shadow Striker or Attacking Midfielder in the AM slot would be an excellent pairing. We're getting into my personal tactical bias again, but I really only like to use the Treq in the 10 role. No other reason other than I love a traditional 10 playmaker XD Hope that helps! :)
The great return of chapter 5! Not much to add to the Teacher's great video, but as this is a role frequently used by AI, I just wanted to stress that even more than other strikers, AFs must be marked tight. Not man marked, but marked tight (people still confused about marking)
@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker ahahahahahahah oh yes, that's a good strategy. I really wish one day SI will allow modders to set tactics for AI managers, that's a way to start having fun!
AF is excellent for possession. They can help with the build up and contribute to your team's fluidity. You may have some issues like we highlighted in the video where your team can get trapped if the opponent isn't playing a high line, so keep that in mind. Roles like the Inside Forward and Raumdeuter can help mitigate that :)
I just struggle with the insane ammounts of offsides on the role. Only thing that seems to somewhat solve it is "crossing from byline", issue with that. My squad ain't build for crosses, they are small and i only use 1 winger (inside forward). I am in 2nd league South africa division and the striker is REALLY good for that level. His off the ball and positioning are weak points however and clearly in such a bad league, stats overall are low. I play pretty direct and some games he just stands offside like 10x. Don't like asking for specific advice but really struggling to improve this. So if you or anyone has ideas it would be much appreciated. Or would it really be down to those bad off the ball stats? Great video again btw
The instruction for early crosses and crossing from the byline help somewhat. I don't think there's much you can do aside from that. I'm not sure which attribute is actually associated with offsides - anticipation, composure or decisions.
If you're using direct passes, it may be that your team is hoofing it forward and your striker doesn't have the mental stats to stay onside consistently. So your team wins the ball, the AF takes off, but can't read the defense and gets caught offside. There's a few of things you can try: The first thing I would do is change his striker role. For example, a Deep Lying Forward on attack is going to drop a deeper and won't make as many forward line breaking runs. But on the attack duty, the DLF is still going to be making forward runs, it's just that they're more from the attacking midfield area. So their risk of being caught offside goes way down. That could be a happy medium of your player being attacking, but not being caught offside. Second, I would take off direct passing and use standard or shorter passing. Your AF may be less inclined to take off if he has incentive to help with the build up. Third, check your other player roles. Some roles, like the Ball Playing Defender, Winger(S), and Advanced Playmaker(S), like to play ambitious passes, especially to strikers looking to break the defensive line. So my suggestion is next time your Advanced Forward gets caught offside, try to figure out where the pass came from and what player role did it come from. Was it a long pass from your center backs? Was it from a playmaker hitting a ball over the top? Or maybe someone hitting an early cross? You want to find the cause of the offside, and then it'll be easier to try to solve it. This was a lot of words sorry haha but hopefully it helps a little :) If you're still having issues, you can comment with your tactic and go from there
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker love the many words haha ;). Ye I haven't fully fixed this yet just figured I'll update my findings so far. I replaced my CDM, very good passing and vision etc. I do play him as BWM (he can tackle). Traits run with ball and risky passes + same instructions. His passes seem to be on par eventhough they from really deep. No offsides. (Might try VOL though) Winger (if on sup), mezzela, full backs(both the 1 cutting in and the 1 staying wide) still get plenty offside passes. Backs it does seem to happen often when they lack passing options and just ping it forward. I changed my tempo to middle aswell and direct passing to middle. It did seem to help a bit, the obvious happend I guess. I get less shots (but less offsides) but more possession and more "build up". This is more of an update then more ask for more advice ^^. It is slowly improving just testing stuff 1 at a time. Some of your tips definetly helped and more to try!
