Great Job, as usual, 2 things to add for the algorythm: U should not forget that u can enhance ur BPD´s with player instructions which makes the really versatile. If im playing with an halfback i order them the stay wider so they act bit more like a "halbraumverteidiger" (dont know the english word for it). Also if u have some BPD´s with good passing, compossure and decision making i like to add "dribble" more, especially when i have 2 of them. its a risk but usually, with a SK(A) behind them they are able to pass the ball around and slowly but surely push the entire team back. That works usually best if u play on slower tempo to minimize the risk of handing the ball over.
great additions thank you!! They are versatile with those player instructions. And I wasn't familiar with that term (I can't even begin to try to announce it, so I wouldn't expect it in any upcoming videos haha). But every day's a school day, so I got something out of it too!
Great video! Despite my love for BPDs I find that having two of them only works in specific situations. As a general rule I'd rather play with 2 CDs than with 2 BPDs, especially if I can support them with a deep lying playmaker. However if you can make the 2 BPDs thing work then you can get away with positioning your playmakers further up the field, which helps with finding space in the opponent's half. As most things in this game, it's a matter of balance!
Totally agree. I generally default to two Central Defenders since I've got a playmaker I would rather focus on getting the ball. Especially with so many that can come get the ball, having multiple BPD means you just bypass them. I didn't touch on it in the video, but having 2 BPD could work effectively if you had a tactic with multiple Target Forwards (either Wide or the striker) Where you want to hoof it up to them as much as possible
Hey cool video! I always use BPD in a 4 back system. I also use two umber 6 (DM on Support and DLP on Defend) in a 4-2-3-1 and a 4-2-4. In the 4-2-3-1 I play with one number 8 (CM on Attack) instead of a number 10 (AM on support). But in a 4-2-4 I play with a number 10 (AM on support) and a CF on Attack. I choose roles which are similar, so if one player gets injured, the other one can replace him. 4-2-4 gegenpressing is really strong against 5-3-2, 4-3-1-2, 4-1-3-2 and 4-3-3. But my main tactic is 4-2-3-1 gegenpressing and my 2 tactic is a defensive tactic like a 4-1-3-2 with one DM on defend and one BWM on Support, one CM on Attack and one DLP on Support. Strikers are AF and CF on Attack. In my opinion those 3 tactics are the best ones and offer the best gegenpressing + flexibility.
Only just happened to find your videos in my TH-cam suggestions today. Have now watched a few of them about the different positions in fm24. Very clear , very detailed, I wish I had found your channel sooner , thank you very much for the detailed breakdowns.
This tactic at 7:12 looks really similar to something I said few video ago. If it is just a coincidence or not. I feel accomplished hahaha. Keep up the great work
Recently discovered your channel, and i´ll be damned, your understanding on the game, tweaks of the game and tactics is superb. You should be studying to be a coach in real life. Cheers from Spain, mate.
Hey DLP, I'm back commenting your videos again! Another very nice trait for a BPD is "Tries to play way out of trouble". On a personal note, yes, the role is risky, BUT if you use the "play out of defence" team instruction, you will barely see the central defenders throwing possession away with risky long range passes. Instead, they will bring it forward with shorter passing. And yes, Vision is necessary when your build up is pressed high up the pitch. It's dreadful to see your CBs or GK throw away possession at the edge of your area and concede a goal that IRL would be a blooper, but it's as rewarding to use your build up, bypass the opponent's press and score an easy goal. 😎
I love your content, so interesting and really helped me with tactic building. Which I've struggled with. I'd really like to know where your content will go once all the player roles have been covered? Keep doing what you're doing 👍🏻
Really happy that the videos have helped out! As far as the end of the role videos, I'll probably move onto more role combinations and other FM stuff (training, weekly prep, instructions, etc...)
@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker I live in the 80s my friend you are the Synthwave of FM. PS. Added you to my gaming Playlist. Definitely one to check out for me. Good aesthetic or not.
@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker appreciate your response. Thanks for your time. Even asked the Messiah of FM 🤭 Zealand what he thought of your channel. Definitely not enough promotion/Love from my view.
I love to add play out of defense and dribble more if I have good BPDs. I've found that when playing against low blocks the BPD turns the ball over a lot with over the top balls, but with dribble more they just step up to the midfield with the ball on their feet when there's no long ball available.
I don't think the Defensive Winger is the next chunk of videos, but in the mean time, my video "How To Press With Player Roles" uses a DW. May give you some ideas in the meantime!
I've noticed that NCB is lower league version of BPD. My semi-pro NCB sometimes turns into prime Leonardo Bonucci with the 60 yard through balls he makes😅
I tend to stray away from BPD as I like my defence to be conservative, so I’m always retraining them to remove my defenders from “brings ball out of defence”. Might try BPD and encourage it
I think it's good to know the possiblities; maybe you get a newgen who's an excellent BPD, but I agree and I tend to more conservaitve center back roles
Sometimes a DC-D who plays long balls over the top, like Andersen in Fulham, is more effective. More resolute. Less dwelling on the ball. If they press hard and good the BPD is a problem sometimes.
For sure! My favorite is probably the 352 (defensively sound) but I also like to use a 343 with to players out wide (usually an Inside Forward or Winger). You can really take advantage of the Wide Center Backs in those formations
Cover mean that they will drop to protect the goal Stop mean they gonna step-up to combat in the midfield Defend mean that you didn't told they to do specifically any of those soo the player will do either depending of the situation
I think they covered it in the comments (thank you everyone!), but yep the "Defend" duty is the normal, typical center back. Stopper/Cover is when you want to add in some additional tactical instructions
Never play with a combination of a stopper and a cover it hardly ever works always play a defend duty so that the cover duty has leverage in his positional play or the stopper can go aggressively forcing a bad through ball that likely play offsides by the defend duty instead of cover
@arturillosmeriglia8029 any player capable of playing the BPD can play other roles ad CD more effectively with much less risk. Pushing your CD to take risks in every single pass, even when passing to the GK or the FB is a very stupid tactical idea
@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker as I wrote on the discord that everybody should access after subscribing to the patreon, the problem is that in FM you don't have the instruction "take more risk on long passes", so the risks the BPD takes are even for short passes. The very same player as libero with "take more risks" will step more into the midfield so that at least he's covered. Probably a BPD with stopper duties together with another defender on coverage would mitigate the issue, but it's still just a high-risk, low reward role.
You know how DLP video is good, when you give him a like, while the adds are going in the beginning!
And thank you for watching the ads by the way!
BPD + ‘Bring Ball Out Of Defense’ trait = ❤
Great call out on how ball playing doesn't always equal possession.
It's so easy for the BPD to bypass everyone. Especially if they decide to ignore your team instructions
CD with take fewer risk is better for possession game.
2:06 the chase between Son and van Dijk reminds me of 2019 UCL Final about the race between these two
I don't usually say which players are which in a highlight, but I was really tempted in this one with van Dijk and Son

"halbraumverteidiger" in English that's not a word, it's a whole sentence xD
"Halbraumverteidiger" is called "wide centerback" in the english version

Nothing quite like a centreback that can break the lines with a sexy ball into the channels!

At least i never had a big problem using that
Very true! This is also why I like using the Libero; he'll bring the ball out of defense more and into the midfield

oh that'd be a fun a player instruction for the CD. That's also why I like the No Nonsense Centre Back because of their direct passing instruction

The worst CD role in FM! Trust me, taking those risks as last man standing is not worth!!
It can be worth it depending on the players at your disposal and what the opposition is capable of.
@arturillosmeriglia8029 any player capable of playing the BPD can play other roles ad CD more effectively with much less risk. Pushing your CD to take risks in every single pass, even when passing to the GK or the FB is a very stupid tactical idea
They are so very risky! And honestly I didn't even notice until working on the video that they're the only center back role with "take more risks"
