In the mid-2000s, I was an inspector on a City of Chicago construction project. We placed sidewalks on Mr. Rod’s block. It was a hot summer day, and his lovely wife, Patti, brought out bottled water for the crew. Such a small, kind gesture, even after all these years, I still recall it.
They were always nice in the neighborhood. I lived a few blocks away and was walking to the brown line stop for school. He was jogging down sunnyside with an SUV following him. He took a big swig of water and spit it out and then looked up and saw me. He smiled and told me good morning and to enjoy me day.
I remember an exact experience just like yours but it wasn’t Mr. Rod lol, I work as a construction inspector for an engineering firm in NJ. Last night i slept with an extremely liberal girl from tinder, most of her conversations were about america in a negative way. Alot about trump and her plans to move to Brazil lol. And to hear this guy spends over 2 thousand days in jail by a corrupt justice system by his country and to hear him still defend America is beautiful. Hes logical and has hope , unlike this girl i slept with that is manipulated by the media and moving to brazil out of all places. What a world we live in.
Amazing interview... Thank you Joe for giving this man the platform to tell his story. I wasnt aware of him or his story and happen to hear it in the background and before i knew it i was sitting on the couch with my wife and and watching along on the living room tv totally engaged and spending time as a family that was much needed.
I love Rod Blagojavich! I’m a conservative and a Trump voter… I lived in Illinois when Rod was governor, I wasn’t a fan at the time, but when he was arrested for the corrupt BS, I became a true fan of his. I cheered when Trump pardoned him. Thank you Trump for helping this man. It makes me sick to think about the time he missed with his girls and wife. Hoping Trump is successful cleaning out the swamp this time around. ❤🇺🇸
When Blag got out he said he's now a Trumplican or a Trumpocrat, I forget which. Either way, it was funny. Trump pardoned Blag and also forced the Navy to give SEAL Eddie Gallagher his 20 yr pension back and his SEAL trident after Gallagher was acquitted of murder. After being acquitted the Navy still tried screwing with him. The key takeaway I got after hearing both their stories is that you need an incredibly strong woman in your corner. Both wives fought like hell to get the truth out and were really the ones that got Trump's attention and caused him to act.
No. He's a dirty politician like all the others he just got screwed by the others. Listen how he talks, it was legal, not just, not right, not morally correct, legal. A former cook county prosecutor knew nothing about the prison system? Appalled by how the prosecutors used dirty tricks on him? F this guy. And all the others.
Agreed! Having the perspective of the person prosecuted (unfairly clearly) and tried in the media be completely opposite of what they were jamming down our throat. Ugh I’m actually upset with myself for being misled so easily.
He withheld millions from a children's hospital till they agreed to give him a campaign contribution. Is that the part you cheered for? Are the part where he tried to sell obomas senate seat?

He knows what he’s talking about and told the truth!!! Let’s work on that reform so men like me have better opportunities and chances when we get out so that recidivism rate can go down at least a lil bit, year by year!!!!!
I was an Illinois resident during Rod's time as governor. I remembering the media's spin on everything and how at the time I believed the lies they told about him. Thanks Joe for having Rod on to set the record straight. I had no idea what a thoughtful and seemingly normal individual Rod is. As the saying goes "that which doesn't destroy us, only makes us stronger". Wishing Rod a prosperous and peaceful life going forward.
Worth noting that Blago is a politician and excellent at BS and spinning a story to make himself look good. What I didn’t see was an actually good person who cared about the people he represented. He cared about his own ambition and power and was taken out by more powerful and ambitious people. None of them are good.
@@momog5615 the idea that this is a good man is laughable. He got screwed by his own party. Just because the DNC screws you and the people love you doesn't translate to "I am not a crook and good person"

I want to buy your book Ron! Your story is very compelling. Your telling of the day you kissed your daughters goodbye touched my heart and the tears welled up in my eyes. You thought that you were alone, but many of us were thinking about you that day. It turns out Donald John Trump was also thinking about you. Perhaps he was thinking of you when he himself faced the inquisition years later. Perhaps your example of integrity strengthened him.
Sometimes we hold others arms up when they can’t hold on much longer.. thank you. Like Aaron and Hur did for Moses. We never know who is secretly praying for us.

As a Chicago native I admit that I was one to believe that he was a guilty POS. I would like to admit my misguidance and incorrect thinking. I apologize sir. I wish you nothing but the best.

In the balance of the universe, all of Joe's lost hair went to this guy.
What? But, sure, true.😂

Looks like Charles Bronson (AKA Charles Buchinsky).
God works in mysterious wars
I'm 2 minutes in and haven't seen him yet
Dude the way this guy talks just makes it so cinematic lol. And it is actually a movie script. Gnarly
Joe, I dunno how you do so many podcasts , but thank you . For real
Huge respect to this man. What a mad time he's had, and still a decent respectable dude. An inspiration.
This podcast was insanely good. I almost teared up i was inspired i was cheering. Honestly this was vintage JRE again this month has been so gooooood.
Totally agree here. I audibly cheered at two parts.
Agreed! Having the perspective of the person prosecuted (unfairly clearly) and tried in the media be completely opposite of what they were jamming down our throat. Ugh I’m actually upset with myself for being misled so easily.
Lol
Last 2 months have been the best run in podcasting history.
He withheld millions from a children's hospital till they agreed to give him a campaign contribution. Is that the part you cheered for? Are the part where he tried to sell obomas senate seat?
Best hair in politics, great story teller!
This guy went through it and kept his cool. The ultimate set up
Had no clue who this guy was. Two hours in and I won’t miss a minute of it. Fascinating.
If you don't know his name you're almost certainly under 40. When his trial was going on, he was everywhere in the news.

His perspective has changed. I am so encouraged! He has such an influence over people.

I listen to the Joe Rogan podcast each and everyday and speaking from a Dem turned Rep and an ex convict that’s been working on getting his life right the last almost 5 yrs (after 7 yrs straight IDOC), one of my fav podcasts ever. Great story! Really enjoyed his insight. He spoke the truth Joe! I’ve learned more than I can speak about behind walls and fences and I’m glad he got another chance. He knows what he’s talking about and told the truth!!! Let’s work on that reform so men like me have better opportunities and chances when we get out so that recidivism rate can go down at least a lil bit, year by year!!!!!
Great guest whose story needs to go more public
Been in Illinois for 34 years and never thought Rod would be on this podcast, what an episode!
Joe what a,great episode. I really enjoy people being real, speaking truth. You both really spoke from your center of your being.
