Thanks for this demonstration! I have the Rubicon and always wanted to know how much the stock articulation was vs with the disconnected sway bar. Its quite a big difference with the disconnect, and happy to see it in your video. Keep on jeeping !
It's not just about the increased height with sway bar disconnect , it's the off-road adaptive capability with this feature that few vehicles offer. You can do a lot more things off road with sway bar disconnect and a winch then without.
Great video! Answered my exact question. All these guys complaining about tape measures... How often do you have a tape measure on the trail? You always have your legs. Though it'd be nice knowing how tall you are. Knee to thigh on a 5' dude isn't much 😂 excited to have a better idea of what my rubi can do!
WHOA 💪🏾🤭. Thumbs up for me. This is making me rethink buying my 2017 Toyota Tundra. Can this be done to a vehicle with Independent Front Suspension? And can a aftermarket sway bar option be added to a Vehicle? Thank you 🙏🏾. Thumbs up. 👍🏾
you would get even better articulation with actual disconnects with pins that detach the sway bar end links from the axle great video man thanks for sharing.
Is there any damage to shocks or control arms or anything that can be caused at full flex? Been debating on getting some quick disconnects for my lifted tj but didnt know how it would work out
You can always damage parts depending on how you off-road. The motto is "Keep your foot off the skinny pedal" Meaning, take it easy when rock crawling, too much gas will break a lot of things.
You turn ON the sway bar DISCONNECT it to gain more traction at the expense of more roll during turns. A sway bar resists the roll by using torsional pressure to keep the wheels down. When you disconnect The wheels are free to move far more. Long story short, Light on = off road, light off = driving over 35.
So should I just drive with the sway bar disconnected all the time for a smoother ride? Isn't it better like the video? This is only for a normal road drive. I mean on bumps and some road holes, won't the car be more smooth?
Oh yeah, it makes a huge difference when you drive and come across a a bump and the sway bar is disconnected. Usually since it's a road I will just leave it connected then. Do you happen to have a video on what axle lock does or would you kindly explain it?
I just got a Jeep Rubicon HR 2017 and I am still learning the 4WD SHIFTS and the AXLE LOCK/SWAY BAR buttons. It is my first off-roading car and I got it for camping, which I still have to find time to go haha
Coil springs aren't laterally stabilized. Without the sway bar connected there's a greater chance of the CG moving too far laterally and the Jeep tipping. Leaf springs *are* laterally stabilized so not having a sway bar connected is not so much of an issue on CJ/YJs.
Yeah it's true that all the tires are on the ground but the front tire that's on the ground is on the corner of the tire. For what it's worth. To be fair, in a real world scenario the tire pressures would probably be lower and the tire would conform bette. Also you're going to be on a softer surface sometimes when you need this. Something like a falken wild peak AT3 would be a really good tire for this scenario because the tread blocks on the sidewall are substantial.
How does it remotely disconnect and reconnect im trying to work out as its a mechanical link to the suspention from what I gather how/what does it disconnect
Thanks for the demo! Although there was more articulation without the front sway bar, notice how much less contact patch the LF tire has on the ground (so less traction if you were offroading). The sway bar keeps both tires on the same axle parallel (or tries to).
I Understand what your saying but its not realty on the trails. With the sway bar connected, He had the back tire come off the ground at "knee" high. If that back tire came off the ground at "knee" high then that tire has ZERO traction. So technically, its less contact with the ground as there are only 3 tires touching now. Once that tire or any tire leaves the ground, the vehicle will also be more tippy which can roll a vehicle easier. With the sway bar disconnected, that rear tire stays connected to the ground as the front gets higher resulting in better traction at higher articulation. Yes, the front tires tip to the side but they still have some traction as the jeeps articulation increases. This results in going more places, especially with full locking differentials to pull the jeep up and over with all 4 tires touching the ground.
Heck yea I’ve been debating on making some quick disconnects for my wj I thought about just using the stock sway bars links with a pin of some sort maybe like a trailer hitch style pin
Thanks for this demonstration! I have the Rubicon and always wanted to know how much the stock articulation was vs with the disconnected sway bar. Its quite a big difference with the disconnect, and happy to see it in your video. Keep on jeeping !
Of all the people who've tried to explain what the sway bar is & what the disconnect is, this made the most sense.
Thanks for sharing. 👍👍
Always nice to have a forklift handy when you wanna film a YT video. Great job! Even without a tape measure the visual made your point.
Awesome!!!! Got a 2018 Rubicon, what a great demonstration.....I cant wait to take it to Moab, UT.
This is the demonstration I have been looking for. Very good explanation, Thanks!!!
That's insane! I had no idea. Friggin mechanical marvel
I really enjoyed this demo, thanks for the video!
Great video. I was going for the Wilkes and after seeing this maybe I should reconsider and go Rubicon.
Why go through all the trouble to make this video and then not use a tape measure?
with the sway bar disconnected there was an additional 1 thigh length of travel, duh!
for real
That was my first thought. You have a forklift but not a tape measure...
I did it at work... thought it was cool and wanted to post it. I should have had a tape measure, but it wasn't planned out...
Thought the same thing lmao
Well done! Great idea using the forklift, keep up the fine work.
Wow today I learned something new. Thanks.
wow - awesome demonstration
Ohhh the magic button 👌🏻 .... I use a 19 mm 🤦🏻♂️😂 getting a quick disconnect tomorrow 👏🏻👏🏻. Cool vid 💪🏻👍🏻
is there such a thing as rear sway bar disconnect?
What lift you running? and tire size?
Thanks for demo. Gonna get a Rubicon vs regular wrangler was wondering what kinda difference it made
Cool to see the travel diff.
every second that passed by, i said "god damn" louder and louder
hahahaha that is funny
Great example

Great Demo!
Thanks nice video .Ciao from Milano country .
Impressive. I was waiting for something to snap. What is the technical conversion rate of 1 waist vs 1 knee?
16-18 inches?
Great demonstration but I was a little worried something was gonna break glad it didn’t 😅
You and me both!
Is it worth the money?
hey, this is just my opinion but I thing your front grill would look super sharp in a dark gunmetal color!
beautiful jeep, what wheels are those? size offset? thanks
@@BustMonk How about the tires? Love the Jeep!
Do all 2011 and newer rubicon have electric disconnect sway bar?
Is that stock form ? Or long arm kit what lift ?
What lift kit do you have ? I have the rubicon express 3.5 super flex but have never seen how much it really flexes. Plan to test it out soon. Thanks.
So...you had a forklift handy, but not a tape measure? LOL, still a cool video.
Agreed... honestly i didn't realize how cool this would be and didn't expect to make a vid of it... had to after seeing it twist like that!

best demo ever.
Nice video

that's very cool

It's just fine.
Great many thanks
Nice the new 2024 Tacoma has this
Good video.
Let you know if we have any questions about your bills? I don't care about your bills lol.
Dose it have a stock suspension and is it lifted ??
Tape measure 😂 still good vid!
Cool! Now I can see it :)

Now you need a rear anti rock
Nice 3 wheel motion…
Are shocks and springs stock?
I know this post is way old but the shocks are definitely not stock because the factory Rubicon are red, no way to tell on the springs though.
So when I’m going off-roading do I turn on the sway bar
You turn ON the sway bar DISCONNECT it to gain more traction at the expense of more roll during turns. A sway bar resists the roll by using torsional pressure to keep the wheels down. When you disconnect The wheels are free to move far more.
Long story short, Light on = off road, light off = driving over 35.
Sway is good or bad for off-road???
@@thejagc3736 Sway is good when off-roading under 18mph. Used mainly for rock crawling.
So should I just drive with the sway bar disconnected all the time for a smoother ride? Isn't it better like the video?

Impressive, but you should of used a tape measure, if your going to go through all the trouble, to do this test.
I just ordered my 21. Yeah I can't afford a tape measure now. 😆
wooooooowooooo WOW great

Watch this. th-cam.com/video/OJLRAjRcN-k/w-d-xo.html
Nice video bud. Do you like those tires? I am about due for new ones and was curious about these.
Shur76 Dodd
I carry a ramp around and park like this everywhere just to flex
Is this an option that comes with the wrangler or is it usually installed after you get a jeep?
pretty cool until it breaks. The replacement part from Jeep is over $2000. Still think this is necessary driving your jeep to work every day?
Thanks for the demo! Although there was more articulation without the front sway bar, notice how much less contact patch the LF tire has on the ground (so less traction if you were offroading). The sway bar keeps both tires on the same axle parallel (or tries to).

Wheres the tape measure?
Heck yea I’ve been debating on making some quick disconnects for my wj I thought about just using the stock sway bars links with a pin of some sort maybe like a trailer hitch style pin
Measuring tape please... A "knee" isn't a standard unit of measurement
Next time, a tape measure!
Typical, Toyota picking up the Jeep! But really that's pretty sweet, wish my Tacoma had a disconnect.
Tape Measure
More toyotas in the video than jeeps🤣
Needs flat fenders
Lol... Spare no expense on a fork lift but yeah no tape. But it was so dramatic, you didn't even need to stand by it.
Clearly Jeep is best! Sorry bronco, but its true
AGREED!
*cries in sahara*
That’s a Toyota who lifts the Jeep haha
you have a fork lift, but no tape measure? Useless.
I'm more interested in the forklift...lol
A tape measure is cheap.
What’s it with all jeeps having that gay grill?
怒り顔w
Get a gd tape ffs
If people didn't drive them like sports cars they wouldn't come with any sway bars to begin with.
