  • Saveri is a janya ragam derived from the 15th Melakarta ragam Mayamalavagowla and features the following notes: S R1 M1 P D1 S (ascending) and S N3 D1 P M1 G3 R1 S (descending). The unique use of the shuddha rishabham (R1), shuddha dhaivatham (D1), and kakali nishadham (N3) helps in its identification. Key phrases (prayogas) like "P M1 G3 R1 S" and "S R1 M1 P D1 S" along with its meditative and devotional mood are hallmarks of Saveri. Listening for these elements in a composition or alapana will help you recognize this ragam.
