If you are not already thinking about this, you should, both the mini and Alegro have 1275 A series engines albeit with slight differences depending if the mini is an ‘A+’ or ‘A’, the allegro will most likely have a milder cam than the later A+ mini engine (most likely sources from a metro) swap the supercharged 1275 mini engine over and fit to the Allegro, while you are there fit some 1.5 roller rockers as that will add extra valve lift and some more Hp for not much, good idea to put a fresh head gasket on it while doing that, and ensure it has a spacer plate fitted to lower the compression ratio. Make sure the fuel pump is swapped over too. If you can find a ported 1275 head that will make it much better!
Most were good, but the allegro, that was one shitty car lol. I had two spitfies, my brother had many minis, A rover p6, two spitfires and 3 MGB GTs. Honestly BL was a pretty decent company until for executives joined at started cutting corners. The cars are surprisingly solid for the era, id recommend having a go in one.
There’s a number of comments suggesting putting the Mini engine + supercharger in the Allegro. STOP!!! The Mini is a 998 and the Allegro is a 1275. Far better and easier to whip the supercharger off and bolt it to the Allegro! The allegro is 53 BHP (stock), so you’ll end up with around 100 BHP. You’ll L need the modified timing cover (minus breather) off the Mini engine and a second or thicker head gasket (decompression plate). Other option would be to enlarge the chambers in the head.
I love how Taylor naturally and organically quotes Jeremy Clarkson “a symphony of brown” in his general vocab. Just goes to show how much underlying influence that show had on all us car nerds.
Haha, mai gawd, standard rust on a Mini, sills (inner and outer), doorsteps, floor pans, toe boards, heel boards, a-panels and valance. Luckily, you can get a complete prebuilt floor sections - saves a lot of time. Probably rust around the scuttle, lower rear quarters and front wings too. You can buy a complete shell from Heritage or panels - to suit your budget. Be good to remove the patchwork quilt repairs it had, never understood why people will do 3,4 -8 repairs on a panel when one slightly larger one would do it. Oil leak will be gear selector shaft seal - its a given, rocker cover and maybe the upper rear plates. Sometimes the mechanical fuel pump can leak. You could learn to weld, it would open up your project builds massively! Learning on a Mini is ideal. Check out BOM - Project Binky and also Urchfab - Mongrel build - for welding pr0n. Then you can avoid getting worried about rust and rot. "A grinder and paint - makes me the welder I ain't" is a great saying. Be interesting to see how many repairs over repairs the Mini has - most people are too dumb to cut the rot out first, then wonder why it rotted away again in 18months. You might be suprised and find they cut the rot out first - rare on a car with underseal used to hide rot. That's a classic example of someone putting oversills on and not treating the rust underneath, it just silently rots the floor out of sight. Hi Taylor, there was a 1750 cc powered Allegro which you might consider or the Crayford convertible which means a lot of rear bodywork strengthening if you intend to chop the roof off. There's always the Vandan Plas with the 1500cc engine.
I'll admit Andy was a really good swindler! He even started showing more corroded areas since he knew the deal was closed. Aside from the frame swap idea (if you are even able to find a clean Mini shell without rust), the other option is to sell it as parts, I'm sure you will be able to gather together at least £2000 from all the parts that aren't rusty.
I turned around at half 12 after waiting in a random village for 2 hours, absolute joke. If we don't get refunded then I think all hell will break loose
@@ligma_nutz it was around half 1 when I turned around. It was 11AM when I arrived at some town, which sat nav said was 8 minutes from where the what3words spot was. By half 1 I estimated getting to the carpark around half 2; at this point I was 0.3 miles away! With the walk to the circuit I reckoned maybe the time will be around 3/quarter past? I'm not certain about the walk time... I was then thinking when it's time to leave, if we'll be sitting in traffic like that on the way back, so decided to turn around.
Did anyone make it to shedfest who followed the followed the instructions to go to what3words location? I just went to Earl Shiltonfest then hedgefest the never going to makeitfest after getting waved on from several car parks.
I never knew that Fred Flinstone had a supercharged mini, because that is the only person I know who has a hole that big in the bottom of his car 🤣 you learn something new everyday 🤣😆👍🏻 looking forward to this series already
Wow. That's very interesting. I never saw anything from British Leyland here. Everybody at that time basically drove VW Beetle, Ford Corcel and Chevrolet Chevette 😂 In 1976 the military government banned imported cars and this ban continued until 1991.
Hey guys I'm a long time (ct days) watcher but never comment. Just need to say love the work you guys do and my days are always better when you've uploaded. Keep smashing it, hopefully some much needed love if you come across this!
One of my biggest scares with my Peugeot 309 Graffic when I got it was having rust like this Mini but thankfully all was ok, my own visual inspection didnt fail. Had to do some work but for a 30 something year old car wasnt bad.
This. Not really doable to a standard that makes it worth it in the time they have, but definitely doable _and_ it would be interesting to see Taylor tackle some actual car repair work on the V2 channel. If none of your bodyshop mates will take the job, weld it yourself Hetherington!
Any announcement on the farce of shedfest? Looking likely over a 1000 people never made it into the event with 1000s more only able to see the last hours of it. Love the channel and all that you do but come on do what’s right please. People had kids in their cars for 3 to 4 hours queuing after hours of driving to get there.
How could you not talk about the Quantum 2+2, a crazy and super rare two car green pairing!! I am mid 30’s and have a cheap red MGb roadster, I love it!!
Mini supercharged drivetrain + Allegro + sporty upgrades = a fun project. You can then do a road trip to Ireland to see that bonkers project putting a Metro bodyshell onto a Boxster chassis.
If you knew your minis, prices are still mad. That’s the price people are asking for rust buckets. You’d have to spend triple that for a decent one but likely still have rust hiding.
Quantums are fibreglass and finished in gel coat so it's fine it will bounce off fine Although looking at the floor pan and the quantum I think Andy really likes fibreglass 😂😂
I own three classic mini's, my turbocharged one was a nut and bolt restoration and has 155hp. It might not be the fastest thing on the road but it is definitely the most fun!
I know I'm 3 months late but always pick it up from the ground from the subframe. The only jackpoints it has are in line with the tube where the seats rest on, its a hole on the outside in the sill. There are some square plates on the bottom, these where ment to transport the empty shell through the factory. Use these and you bend the floor and create a new place for rust. I'm looking forward to seeing this rebuild as I'm planning mine to have a simular supercharger.
Mini Solution - weld the doors closed for some extra rigidity and weld some angle iron along the sills. Job done. Enjoy watching Taylor trying to in and out via a window.
Ahhh that's classic mini rust. It's had corners cut like they all did to keep them on the road. Oversills, fiberglass, paper 😂 just like mine. Good thing id , complete sills, floors and any panel you could ever need are readily available from a variety of suppliers. Just get the sparkle spanner out and crack on boys.
Am I the only one who was not surprised by the actual state of it? Was extremely obvious before they even bought it that it was a complete rust pit that was painted over, stuffed up, and never once repaired properly anywhere.
As the owner of a British racing Green (with white roof) mini I approve of this video very much. All the panels including a complete new shell are available to buy
He says that I bought my consul mk2 highline for £105 off eBay in 2005 and still own it as well.. they say don’t buy one for £3k because they can’t weld at all
You know its wrong alex, the ones who couldn't get in today deserve full refunds! It was over sold. We sat in traffic for hours and had to leave because of hunger!
I had a metallic brown on brown Allegro 1500cc 5 spd. As someone else said here 'it drank oil like a Glaswegian' i used to 'recycle' mobil 1 for some garages i knew 😅 always leaving the half empty bottle in full sight. Just pop the head and supercharger in the Allegro, maybe the entire engine if its a 1275.
Hi Alex why dont you use the supercharged mini engine In the Allegro as that's what I done I put st170 engine in my focus saloon and my grandad put a mg turbo in his Allegro
why havent you made a video apologising for the absolute shit show of a shambles of your shedfest? Not enough parking/attendants, got in at 130, left at 330
Phone M Machine (based in Darlington) for the panels, 2 sills, 2 front floor sections and repair the other holes with 1.2mm steel, a weekends work for a decent welder
Set up you got the mini for the super charger or the engine as well and the wheels for the Allegro simple but the mini is worth alot restored but the mini was cheap even being rotten but if you're stripping it you can sell alot of parts wats left
Love the content. Would it be possible to get a garage update/ project updates on every car. It's so hard to keep track of what's still around. Feel some resolution is needed for some projects too.
@@JustBurnOilhe said over sold not over priced... It's completely different. One is charging too much the other is selling more tickets to an event without having the capacity for them.
@@JustBurnOilfrom what I have seen and heard, yes. Long lines of people waiting to get in, only to never make it because of sitting for hours and having to leave for bathroom breaks and food, all while never getting into the show.
That is not the worst mini shell that I have seen. It is completely repairable, and you would be surprised at the cost of a complete floor pan than will weld into place. Just reinforce it with x-braces before chopping the floor out.
It's not all that bad is it. Some floor and sills and it would be OK. Taylor needs to learn welding with a MIG and get on with it. I have seen worse than that but I'm mid 50's, so it was common back in the day and the younger guys aren't used to seeing rust like we used to get it.
It's definitely fixable given the availability of replacement panels but the labour cost would be massive. Taylor can't weld so he'd have to get someone to do it, I'd suggest he try and learn himself but this is a bit too far gone for a beginner to tackle.
Exactly this! With the shell fixed this will fetch 5k+ at current prices, there's probably not 3k's worth of welding to be done so I reckon he'll still come out evens and have a cracking little Mini.
Rusty the mini looked quite good on the trailer going up the M1 Thursday. you either did a quick repair or it was masking it well, less can be said to the struggling Transit that needs a v8 dropped in it.
Im in the middle of welding and fixing up an escort van with similar rot problems. Cut the rot out, get some sheet steel and a decent mig and crack on patching it up and seam sealing the welds. :)
Andy didn't really do you over, you're a professional and know where to look when buying a car. You did a Rory and got too excited lol. But, i'm sorry I'm gonna say that cause I love you all, it's all for our pleasure :D Would love to see if you guys can still fix it later on. Great vid as always!
May not need an MOT but still needs to be in roadworthy condition, plod would have a field day with it. Especially if you just crashed into a mother and baby because your foot went through the rusty floor when trying to brake or the fuels lines failed due to rust. An exemption to MOT does not stop you going to jail🤷♂️

Hi Taylor, there was a 1750 cc powered Allegro which you might consider or the Crayford convertible which means a lot of rear bodywork strengthening if you intend to chop the roof off. There's always the Vandan Plas with the 1500cc engine.
Engine from the mini should slot into that allergo nicely…just a idea
This is the way
I'll admit Andy was a really good swindler! He even started showing more corroded areas since he knew the deal was closed.
Aside from the frame swap idea (if you are even able to find a clean Mini shell without rust), the other option is to sell it as parts, I'm sure you will be able to gather together at least £2000 from all the parts that aren't rusty.
Rain started to drop and the new video came out, ideal.
Exactly
Loving the Quantum! My dad had a H4 in the late 90s
Shit fest??? What's happening been sat on same road for 2 hours
I turned back in the end, wasn't worth sitting in traffic any longer...Travelled miles too. Gridlocked...
I turned around at half 12 after waiting in a random village for 2 hours, absolute joke. If we don't get refunded then I think all hell will break loose
@@ligma_nutz unfortunately already put in a request via PayPal for the money back.. Actually really disappointed more than anything
My mums first car was an allegro
1.3 in Brazil (metallic brown) with a brown vinyl interior, it apparently drunk oil like a Glaswegian
Snap. My Mum owned one exactly the same too
Wow. That's very interesting.
I never saw anything from British Leyland here. Everybody at that time basically drove VW Beetle, Ford Corcel and Chevrolet Chevette 😂
In 1976 the military government banned imported cars and this ban continued until 1991.
@@yano.moraes1492 Brazil was a metallic brown colour that was offered at the time, he's not referring to the your country!!!
Rory is never gonna live this down is he? 😂
absolutely not!
Getting the mini or coming all the way upto Wigin ?

Hey guys I'm a long time (ct days) watcher but never comment. Just need to say love the work you guys do and my days are always better when you've uploaded. Keep smashing it, hopefully some much needed love if you come across this!
One of my biggest scares with my Peugeot 309 Graffic when I got it was having rust like this Mini but thankfully all was ok, my own visual inspection didnt fail.
Had to do some work but for a 30 something year old car wasnt bad.
Heritage body shell? If not, bring it to Norway, I'll weld it - not very well, but I'll give it a go...
That Quantum 2+2 also in green, looks lovely! And rare! 😍
They are quite rare, I have one and it always gets lots of attention
Andy had a Quantum 2+2 too!! What a guy!
Great video Love the Allegro looks very original, the Mini look Awesome but on closer inspection 😢. Look forward to the next episode 👍🏻.
Shedfest was a complete nightmare!!! 3 hours of queuing in the traffic chaos. Really appalling planning 😡
You can still buy floor pans and sills for a classic mini, cut the rot out, weld the good in. This is what REAL car guys do!
People had kids in their cars for 3 to 4 hours queuing after hours of driving to get there.
yup he got greedy, went thorugh paypal resolution for refund
Wish we had used paypal
@@Scottyglitch yeh their request refund through the app or website doesnt really do anything, maybe contact bank, pain though doing that
Im not sure why Taylor is saying he was done. He had all time to do these checks, knew it was rusty and said himself it was cheapest in UK.
Andy can spend most of that £2500 repainting the front of his other car caused by someone bouncing a gate against it………
Quantums are fibreglass and finished in gel coat so it's fine it will bounce off fine
Although looking at the floor pan and the quantum I think Andy really likes fibreglass 😂😂
@@paultossell1455 Is that fitted with a cvh engine?
@slacko1971 yes most have cvh as based on mk2 fiesta _xr2
I've got a feeling that supercharged a series is going to go in the allegro, I reckon that was the plan all along anyway 😎👀
I was looking for a classic mini myself and actually saw this on facebook a few months ago, I am so happy i had self control that day and passed 😂
Same here.
12:32 - That Mini S owner has one of those Kit Cars based on a Ford Fiesta! 🤔😏👍
😎🇬🇧
Mini Solution - weld the doors closed for some extra rigidity and weld some angle iron along the sills. Job done.
Enjoy watching Taylor trying to in and out via a window.
Take the chrome off get the welding sorted some nice seats and wheels from mini spares Huddersfield should be around a £7k mini lovely car that 👌🏻
Ahhh that's classic mini rust.
Great number plate on the allegro 1:09
He says that I bought my consul mk2 highline for £105 off eBay in 2005 and still own it as well.. they say don’t buy one for £3k because they can’t weld at all
Buy a Celica GT4 and swap all the bits in. A moment’s work.
Only one or two brackets needed.
Maybe put the mini drivetrain into Allegro and do some weight reduction of that's possible ig
You know its wrong alex, the ones who couldn't get in today deserve full refunds! It was over sold. We sat in traffic for hours and had to leave because of hunger!
This about the car show he put on?
Sorry Aussie looking for information
Not enough parking/attendants, got in at 130, left at 330
Not Alex scratching the sellers other car at 12:30 with him wobbling the fence 😂😅😂😅
I saw that it was annoying as fuck like whyyyy
Andy must be laughing hard watching this 😂😂😂❤❤❤
Phone M Machine (based in Darlington) for the panels, 2 sills, 2 front floor sections and repair the other holes with 1.2mm steel, a weekends work for a decent welder
I can’t believe it’s been two years! Felt like a fever dream and had to slap myself when I heard two years! Absolutely flying lads keep it all up
Holy shit already been 2 years... Still remember your first video like it was last week :D
Oooh, a British classic? Lovely jubbly!
Buy some heritage panels (floorpan, sills), someone will weld 'em in for you.
Feel some resolution is needed for some projects too.
should've got a Lada Niva
I owned two of them over the years. They're so rare now.
I’m sure you can afford a new shell from the oversold shedfest tickets fiasco 🤬
Don’t buy a ticket if it’s overpriced
@@JustBurnOilhe said over sold not over priced... It's completely different. One is charging too much the other is selling more tickets to an event without having the capacity for them.
@@bb-ballistics1706 so they didn’t let people in at the event with a ticket ?
@@JustBurnOil not sure. I was just explaining what he ment by his comment. But that's what I sounds like.
With the shell fixed this will fetch 5k+ at current prices, there's probably not 3k's worth of welding to be done so I reckon he'll still come out evens and have a cracking little Mini.
the other car on Andys drive is a Quantum kitcar, Another great british car, I have one myself
Supercharge the Allegro using the parts from the mini! They both use A series engines ultimate sleeper.
pls i beg you guys take the allegro to the nurburgring lmfao imagine it 5 guys and misha behind the wheel 🤣
You know the Nürburgring has hills, right?
@@drunkenhobo8020 im aware, rory can push.

Stuck in traffic for shedfest.
Absolute f**king joke
Your relentless effort and humble demeanor inspire us all. Congratulations
Put the supercharged motor in the Allegro. Be hilarious! 😂👌
i am loving the old top gear chalanges vibe.
Great episode and wonderful to see this type of content back on the channel. Looking forward to this classic challenge that can only be good ❤
Why was the Allegro didn't came with the square steering wheel .... was it changed?
Andy must have been laughing his ass off that he managed to sell that rust bucket for £2.5k.
💸💸💸
The engine in the car is probably worth 1k minimum with the supercharger on, you could break the car and make the 2.5k back easy
Supercharger that Allegro 💪
Andy didn't really do you over, you're a professional and know where to look when buying a car. You did a Rory and got too excited lol. But, i'm sorry I'm gonna say that cause I love you all, it's all for our pleasure :D Would love to see if you guys can still fix it later on. Great vid as always!
13:46 in the background there seems like ideas of new content. Like the names of those cars on the list ❤
Put the supercharger on the allegro obviously! Also needs a Rover badge cutting up and putting on the back to say “Allegover”. Obviously.
Surely MOTs not required as they're over the 40 year mark. That's the beauty ofbthe old shed boxes
not required but the car still has to be in a condition that’s roadworthy, a floor made of Swiss cheese certainly isn’t
Thats just, like, your opinion man. If that had more paint on the bottom integrity would have been visibly maintained
Oooof, big volvo looks amazing
May not need an MOT but still needs to be in roadworthy condition, plod would have a field day with it. Especially if you just crashed into a mother and baby because your foot went through the rusty floor when trying to brake or the fuels lines failed due to rust. An exemption to MOT does not stop you going to jail🤷♂️
