  • In this video we are tasting a very unique tropical fruit that can easily grow in Florida backyards. Jackfruits, huge and heavy (28lbs!) fruit with alligator-like skin and intense fruity aroma, like mangoes and avocados, come in many different varieties with different tastes, textures and sizes and tree characteristics. This particular variety, Bangkok Lemon, is from Thailand, but there is no variety by this name in Thailand! So, assumably, it was a seedling of a known Thai variety brought from Thailand that created a superior new fruit with large pods and not a lot of latex. This fruit was purchased from our Tropical Fruit Forum friend Brandon (cbss_daviefl), it was grown in Brandon's fruit garden in Southwest Ranches, FL.
Disclaimer: We all know that different fruit varieties have different flavors; for example, some jackfruit varieties have a fruity bubble gum taste, some have citrusy sweetness, some - tones of vanilla and sweet banana. We are not trying to compare or rate the varieties; just showing what a certain variety looks like, feels and tastes from our own perspective. Taste is very personal and subjective, varies from person to person and culture to culture. Also, the same variety grown in different parts of Florida will taste different depending on changes in microclimate, annual rainfall, soil health, mineral and salt content, fertigation regimen (irrigation+fertilization), etc. This video is intended to motivate friends who have never tried this wonderful fruit to go and try it for the first time and dance in awe and happiness.

any Bangkok lemon trees avail in FL now? Have you tried orange crush or banana crush, or canteloupe varieties?

I don’t see grafted Bangkok lemon trees available. If they are they will either be at Love Nursery in north FL or at Lara farms in Homestead.
I haven’t tasted banana crush or cantaloupe but might have tasted orange crush. No other varieties compare to Bangkok lemon in taste as of yet.

@@growpuravida I contacted excalibur, who seems to be the only nursery growing them, and they said 1 year. They also dont have the best reputation of keeping cultivars in order.
