I so wish you both could describe the taste comparison to any other fruit. I only heard pumpkin from the gentleman. Please tell us what it taste like! Mango? Apple? Etc?

It's not like any fruit available in grocery stores... similar to baked sweet potato and pumpkin

The texture of canistel make it very unique and distinct from either pumpkin or sweet potato. It has the texture of hard-boiled egg yolk. It's also reputed to have the highest fat content of any fruit, although I find it hard to believe that it's higher than either durian or avocado. As a kid, I hated the taste of canistel but as a beyond-middle-aged adult, I've acquired quite a fondness for it. If you've never tasted it before, you will probably won't like it, so don't expect to be won over on your initial taste. It's neither juicy nor fragrant. In comparison, the taste of a mango is light and refreshing. The canistel is heavy and cloying but I still enjoy it.

Chris - do you have Lucuma planted - is the only Pouteria that can grow and maybe fruit in my 9a
in Australia's southern state - be cool to put in your Canistel tastings one day? Ross sapote ive had
and is maybe between them both slightly maple flavour.

Chris , I was curious if you’ve tried Fairchild #2 ? I have one fruiting now so I’m curious how good it is.

It seems that I might have tasted it a long time ago... unfortunately I can't remember enough to compare it to 'Trompo' and 'Aurea'

I have to put this under the heading of "watching other people eat". I know and love canistel but please keep in mind that some of your viewers come to this wanting to know what it TASTES like. You didn't mention the texture other than "you don't need teeth". You don't mention the taste, the sweetness, compare it to anything else. Pretty disappointing. Also these videos should be done with fruit which is properly ripe, not overripe or stored in the refrigerator.

Waiting on my canistel to fruit again. Had it trimmed severely after Hurricane Irma and set upright.
