Techniques can always be learned. He already has the qualities that counts: Strength, Politeness, Self control, Determination, Willingness to follow orders.
He's a soldier so he shouldn't be a stranger to hard work and being told what to do. He learned several languages even if not fluently, that's someone with a desire to learn at the very least. He will be fine, he just needs some time and experience.
I can still order a beer, coffee or tea in a dozen languages. Other than knowing how to use basically any firearm i can put my hands on its the only other skill I learned from the Army.
In the morning, he'll wake to Maribell looking at him from the next stall. And she'll probably want to feed him. When Albert repeats the admonition about "Strangers", she'll say he's not a stranger now since they know his name and he slept the night.
Depends on the government/species. They could be quite "practical" and not "waste" resources on bringing someone that is "useless" back to their home only to take up more resources taking care of someone that is of "no benefit" any longer. Treating veterans poorly is not an alien concept. It's quite human for lots of governments.

@@imjang2430 Author can always do a part two if he hasn't already, and it probably didn't/wouldn't go this route. This was just where my mind went.
